How We Changed Our Reporting World… And Are Continuing to Do So

Hear how Cadbury (prior to the Kraft purchase of Cadbury) implemented its first consolidated reporting tool (BI 7.0) based on different transaction systems across the Australia/New Zealand business for its commercial results. This presentation will assist you in understanding their approach in how they chose BI 7.0, the reporting issues this project solved, the things that went wrong and the change management approach taken.

• Determining the business need

• The business owning the project with IS

• Separating transactional and business reporting hierarchies

• Changing the norm on systems integration testing

• Change management approach

• Reporting benefits received

• Future integration steps with Kraft

• What Cadbury has learnt - the good and the bad

• Communication is still the key - keep communication live throughout the project and set those expectations as early as possible

Green Fields Implementation of the New G/L - To Split or Not to Split, That is The Question

Hear from the first public sector organisation to green fields implement the New SAP General Ledger (G/L). This presentation will help you understand the trials and tribulations of implementing the New G/L with too many splitting objects and the brave decision to re-implement to get it right and meet the business need.

• Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (Oh... we got it wrong)

• Or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them (Do we re-implement?)

• The undiscovered country (no one has done this before)

• Enterprises of great pitch and moment (lessons learned)

• “Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon ‘em”

Come share a rather uniquely philosophical view of what was done; then undone; and the tender leaves of hopes, to-morrow blossoms. An epic tale of Shakespearian proportions.

10.10 Change the Way Your End Users Experience SAP Financials

Do new users struggle to find the transactions and reports they need?

Consider providing role-based access to the transactions they need. The presentation will look at the roles delivered to structure existing SAP GUI transactions and newer web applications and how they can be implemented in the SAP NetWeaver Business Client, without requiring you to implement a SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal (from SAP Enhancement Package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0).

Delve into implementing a report launch pad to provide access to reports whether in SAP ERP, SAP BW or SAP BusinessObjects tools. Take a look at some of the existing web applications for financials users, including the parts of Manager Self Service designed for cost centre managers and project managers and Express Planning, designed to simplify the collection of data for your annual budget - both of which were reworked to run without requiring you to implement a portal in Enhancement Package 5.

• Shared Service Framework - how it can simplify the handling of requests from the business to the shared service center and the self service applications designed for use within this framework

• Further developments underway with the floor plan manager which will provide the ability to build configurable user interfaces

Opening Keynote Presentation: Coming Out of the Perfect Storm: How HMH Navigated Improvement in Sales and Operational Planning

Approximately three years ago, the landscape of the U.S. economy took a dramatic downturn. This, coupled with several other key factors, led to one of the most challenging times in HMH’s (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company) history. This presentation will provide an overview of several challenges the company faced during a very condensed period of time and how the organisation was able to overcome these challenges while achieving significant operational and financial improvements.

The focus of the discussion will be on the approach the company used to overcome issues within its sales and operations planning processes as well as how it leveraged BPC (SAP’s Business Planning and Consolidations tool) in its road to improvement.

• Why do companies need better planning and forecasting?

• Challenges along the value chain

• HMH’s approach for determining the path to improvement

• The solution

• Results speak volumes - hear where HMH is today

Pre-Conference JumpStart Session: Monthly Reporting - Can I Rely on My Friend Mr Excel?

Are you currently preparing your financial analysis and reports for SAP Solutions in Microsoft Excel? Are you looking for answers on how your projects are going? Would you like to automate your Excel processes using data from your SAP G/L? Tired of spread sheet crisis management?

If one of the answers is YES, then join us for this session and learn how you can retrieve dynamic period, year-to-date, life-to-date and quarter balances straight out of your SAP Financials system using simple Excel formulas out of the box.

12.35 A Super Result! Superpartners Successfully Implement SAP BPC to Meet Increased Financial Reporting Requirements

For over 25 years Superpartners has partnered with industry superannuation funds. With 1700 employees, Superpartners has around $82 billion under administration for over 6 million member accounts.

Recently, demand has increased from managers and regulators for regular financial reporting and regulatory requirements have become more challenging. Superpartners’ then existing financial systems struggled to cope with the increasing pressures and complexities. In addition the business processes were lacking and data integrity was an issue. This drove Superpartners to proactively search for a solution that would make them more agile in their planning processes.

In conjunction with its SAP ERP implementation, in October 2009 Superpartners deployed SAP BPC throughout their business. With the main goal being to provide a flexible modelling and planning tool which would allow an integrated approach in producing budgets and forecasts.

• Key challenges of being an “early adopter” - how do you know what you don’t know?

• Re-evaluating your current business processes

• Dealing with change

• The project team approach - implementing and managing a solution within the finance team

• Lesson learned - what would be done differently?

• Project highlights and benefits gained

Do I Really Need a Dashboard???

“Dashboards, Dashboards, Dashboards” is all we hear in the world of reporting at the moment, but are they your only option? Dashboards are more than just an assortment of pretty graphs, they can be an important tool for managing your organisation. But is a dashboard what you really need?

This presentation will look at the different options for reporting from within your organisation, from dashboards to pre-formatted reports to slice and dice. We will analyse some of FaHCSIA’s reporting solutions including their Executive Dashboard to identify what works and why. We will also discuss the benefits of utilising functionality such as broadcasting and exceptions reporting.

Identify the key elements for what makes a reporting project successful, understanding user needs, getting the business on board, identifying business pain points, planning and communication, nurtured go-live and on-going support.

Managing Risks and Reporting: My Way, The Highway and the BI Way

There’s so much information that we have available to make decisions. BI systems and tools are designed to collect that information into a “single version of the truth” and help us plough through that mass of information to make better decisions. But what is “the truth”? What is a “better decision”? The truth is… you can’t handle the truth! And “better” decisions are always obvious after the fact!

This presentation goes back to basics and summarises the learnings, the failures, the experiences (good and bad) and the conceptual approach to defining and prioritising information reporting in Powerlink.

• The highway - eliminate the following approaches:

- A “single version of the truth”

- We’re here to service whatever requirements our customers have

- Put it in, turn it on and it looks after itself

- Turn on standard content and see what we get

• My way (actually Stephen Covey’s way, from “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People)

- Begin with the end in mind

- Put first things first

- Seek first to understand

• The BI way

- To BI or not to BI, what is the question?

- Filling in the gaps that standard content leaves

- Regular reconciliations for that ring of confidence

This presentation will cover the business case for upgrading and developing an upgrade project plan. It will focus on managing the technical landscape during the upgrade and the issues identified in the testing phase and the go-live experiences.

• Sources of upgrade information

• Good documentation provides invaluable assistance when deciding what object modifications to retain via the modification assistant transaction (SPAU)

• The more practice upgrades you perform, the less stressful go-live will be

• Business does not stop! Have a landscape management plan to meet your production system transport needs during the upgrade project

Putting the Lid on Spending with SAP’s Budget Control System

One must spend money to generate revenue, but that doesn’t mean organisations give the green light to spend at will. SAP’s Budget Control System (BCS) within the Funds Management module can provide organisations with functionality to establish spending controls that range from very loose to extremely tight. Whilst also keeping the manager informed on budgetary activity affecting their areas of responsibility. Real life examples will be shown to illustrate how BCS configuration can promote accountability and operational efficiency.

The presentation will focus on how SAP Funds Management integrates with other modules and how Control Objects is used to determine remaining budget. It will focus on balancing budgetary control and flexibility as well as tips and suggestions learned from experience.

• Using Funds Management and BCS to support different budgeting approaches (i.e. line item, mid level, high level, mutli-year and revenue based) for business units within the same organisation

• Discovering how the key elements of Funds Management (funds, funds centres and commitment items) provide a framework to enter budget, control spending and monitor budget balances

• Using the power of derivation strategies to simplify your data input requirements

11.35 Taking the Spreadsheets Out of Your Close Process

You may already have heard of the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit and how it helps you to move the lists of tasks to be ticked off during the period close from a spreadsheet and into SAP ERP. While it can simply be a to-do list with status monitoring, it can also be used to automate the close process, initiating the jobs for order settlements and so on. However other close tasks are still spreadsheet heavy - including inventory and asset valuation.

Since IAS 36 required the impairment of assets, companies have been developing huge spreadsheets to capture the assets to be impaired and to prepare the postings. A new function in EhP5 allows you to automate the process of identifying relevant assets and preparing the postings. While MM will calculate your FIFO valuation and the revaluation to be made per account and company code, it didn’t give you the details per profit center and segment, meaning that many an organisations reached for a spreadsheet. Again, a new function in EhP5 allows you to create a delta run that automates this process.

Another spreadsheet-driven process is the process of valuing goods in transit. Currently goods on long boat journeys between affiliated companies “disappear” from the balance sheet, meaning that companies regularly track them by spreadsheet. From EhP5 it is possible to value goods in transit as a new stock type and manage the transfer of ownership between the affiliated companies.

Finally, once the close postings are in place, there is a lot of ticking and tying between general ledger and sub ledger. Discover scripting options with SAP Central Process Scheduling (integrated with the SAP Financial Closing Cockpit) that allow you to automate such checks.

Planning and Integrating Corporate Responsibility Reporting

The trend towards more formal corporate responsibility reporting continues at pace and this includes the need for more rigorous systems and the application of accounting-like rules where CEO’s and Senior Executives must authorise key measures.

Murray Goulburn is a large and complex dairy company in that manages raw milk from its 2,695 farmer-members, it transports and then processes that milk in EPA regulated sites and then markets dairy products into domestic and export markets where a range of market forces and regulations are in play. Furthermore the major public debates on water and emissions significantly affect Murray Goulburn based mainly on dairy farm impacts but also resource use at processing sites.

In this context Murray Goulburn has developed strategies that create a pathway to efficient and credible compliance, resource management and reporting.

• What is corporate responsibility reporting and how does it link in with SAP?

• Discussion on the roadmap of where and how to source the data

• Process and policy planning• Integration into SAP systems• Development of reporting standards and corporate
