Dimension – Multi Dimensionality

• Dimensions: Dimensions are the master data. It consists of members. If the

members are arranged in a hierarchical order, the relationship between the

members can be described using the terms parent, child, sibling.

• Dimension members are described by properties and data by the dimension

members.

• Required in each application:

 – A = Account type dimension

 – C = Category type dimension

 – E = Entity type dimension

 – T = Time type dimension

• Required in each application set:

 – R = Currency type dimension

• Required in Intercompany Eliminations:

 – I = Intercompany

• Additional dimensions:

 – Un = User Defined dimension type

•  Application: Is a functional unit used for a particular purpose (e.g. Finance Application,

Sales Application). Applications may share dimensions with other applications within

the same Application set, or have dimensions that are unique. In MS Analysis Services,

an application is equivalent to a cube.

•  A BPC application is a BW Infocube

• Logic in BPC, is at the basic level a calculation

Calculations can be defined in:

• Excel formulas/Worksheet logic:

 –  Excel based formulas calculated on data retrieved in the workbook – ‘on the fly or on demand’

 –

Results stored only in the workbook –  Live reporting based on simple calculations

• Dimension logic:

 –  Calculated while the user queries the data -‘on the fly calculation’

 –  Results are stored in cache only

 –  The first query takes longer to execute than subsequent

 –  Independent of application definitions. Scope across the appset

•  Script Logic/Business rules:

 –  Read by the BPC proprietary logic engine

 –  App server tier retrieves and calculates the data

 –  Results stored in the backend, creates base-level members.

 –  Calculations can cross applications, but definition is app-specific

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/sap-bpc-overviewfinal 26/70

• Used when calculations need to be performed before aggregations on base members, e.g: units *

price

•  Data generated for base level members and stored

•  Can be triggered from a DTS package or on data send

•  Currency conversion, Allocations, etc are examples, Apshell has pre-configured logic

Bases calculations on the existence of data in the backend

• Two files are created for each advanced script (file) written:

 –  .LGF: an ascii file created/edited using the admin console

 –  .LGX: the compiled logic file. Created by the system when logic is validated and saved. Is an executable

version of the logic

•  Two types of logic:

 –  Default: invoked for each data send

 –  Other: invoked from default(using INCLUDE) or specifically from the DM

Data Manager

• An SAP BPC module that helps manage data moving into and out of applications, as well

as copy or move data within and across applications

•  Supports mapping and complex transformations

•  Integrated with BPC for Excel

•  MS version BPC uses SSIS to define the task flow, the NW version uses process chains

• Data Manager Package: Allows you to move data among the BPC databases and to effect

business processes.

•  BPC is delivered with a set of packages

• 3 types of packages available are:

• Data Management

•  Financial processes

•  System Administration

• Introduction to EvDRE

― EVDRE stands for Data Range Exchange

―  EVDRE is used to build reports and input schedule

―  EVDRE is bidirectional i.e can be used to send and receive data―  EVDRE is used through the Interface for Excel

―  EVDRE is used to generate large reports and inputs schedules that

optimize performance

―  Produces smaller and faster workbooks; and is more scalable than the

• EVDRE Builder:

• Description:

• Available dimensions: Lists the dimensions that are available in the active application. You can select one or more dimensions andplace them on the In columns and In rows fields using the arrow icons.

• In columns: Lists the dimensions that are placed in the column axis of the report. Use the up and down arrows to change thenesting order.

• In rows: Lists the dimensions that are placed in the row axis of the report. Use the up and down arrows to change the nesting order.

• Allow expansions: Automatically triggers an expansion in the report. For more information, see Expand Range Parameter.

• Allow options: Generates an Options range. An Option Range is a range of cells in which you can define your EvDRE options.Alternatively, you can enumerate the options in a comma-delimited list in the Options field. For more information, see EvDREOptions.

• Allow formatting: Allows you to choose a default formatting style generated automatically, or import the style from a predefinedworkbook (either local or server-based). For more information, see EvDRE Style Imports.

• Select this option to use the format section to customize the format of the template.

• Allow sorting: Inserts a sorting range into the worksheet. You can have the system automatically insert a break total into theworksheet, and choose to display the values in descending order. For more information, see EvDRE Sorting Range.

Work State is the ability to “Lock” a region of Data in the application (Cube) • This overrides the User Member Access Privileges to write the same Region of Data

•  A Region of Data is defined by three to five dimensions, one must have a property named

“Owner”

•  Work state is controlled at the following interfaces –

 – Data manager(DM) – Controls Data Input from running a Copy, Import or Move Package

 – Journals (JRN) – Controls Data Entry from posting Journal Entries – Manual “BPC For Office” data entry (MAN) – Controls Data Submissions from Reports and Input Schedules

in BPC For Office

 – Comments (COMM) – Controls the Posting of Comments (Unstructured Data)

 – Documents (DOCS) – Controls Posting Documents with Application Context to the Content Library

• Work Status is optional.

Work Status Architecture

Levels of Security

All – All users with appropriate member access rights can change the data

Locked – Locked for all users; no one can change the data

Manager – Only managers (parents of owners) can change data

Owner –

Owner (of that dimension member) can change data

Application Level Configuration

• In each application, identify two to

five Work Status Dimensions

• In additions, only ONE Dimension

can be specified as Work Status

Dimension

•The Dimension you select as the

Work Status Dimensions are the

variables in the Business Process

which means that their selections

might change based on who submits

data.

•Dimensions which remain static for

all users are called Static dimensions

•  Allows the pre-packaging and sequencing of application tasks for different

departments. i.e, set up standardize business processes

•  An explorer-like interface guides users through pre-configured tasks

•  Any of the available features of BPC for Office, Web and administration can be

invoked from a BPF

•  Utilizes data regions, which allows the setting up of a single BPF and multiple

instances

•  Assure process consistency and uniformity

Other features:•  Can be integrated to work states

•  Monitor progress of the business process

•  Emails can be triggered from a BPF

What is Consolidation

• General : the act of merging many things into one.

• Business: often refers to the mergers and acquisitions of many smaller companies

into much larger ones.

• Financial accounting : refers to the aggregation of financial statements of a group

company as consolidated financial statements .

Consolidation Methods

• The two factors governing the method of consolidation:

• Percentage of Ownership in the other companies in the group

• Legal requirements of the country

• Broadly the methods of consolidation can be classified as :

• Purchase Method - This method is prevalent in the US when the holdingcompany in the group owns >50% of the voting power in the subsidiaries. All

the assets and liabilities of the subsidiary is considered for consolidation.

• Equity Method – This method is used when the financial accounts of an

associate have to be consolidated with the holding company. Only the equity

of the associate is considered.

• Proportionate Method – This method is similar to purchase method but ismore prevalent in the European countries . As the name suggests, the assets

and liabilities of the subsidiary is considered to the extent of the holding

company’s share in it
