Typographic Conventions
Type Style Description
Example Words or characters quoted from the screen. These include field names, screen titles,
pushbuttons labels, menu names, menu paths, and menu options.
Textual cross-references to other documents.
Example Emphasized words or expressions.
EXAMPLE Technical names of system objects. These include report names, program names,
transaction codes, table names, and key concepts of a programming language when they
are surrounded by body text, for example, SELECT and INCLUDE.
Example Output on the screen. This includes file and directory names and their paths, messages,
names of variables and parameters, source text, and names of installation, upgrade and
database tools.
Example Exact user entry. These are words or characters that you enter in the system exactly as they
appear in the documentation.
<Example> Variable user entry. Angle brackets indicate that you replace these words and characters
with appropriate entries to make entries in the system.
EXAMPLE Keys on the keyboard, for example, F2 or ENTER .

This document defines the functional scope of SAP Analytics Hub. It includes a summary of the available
functionality, a detailed list of features, and information about the available product documentation.
Note
Functions and capabilities described in the product documentation for SAP Analytics Hub may exceed
the functional scope of the product, to explain the integration with other SAP products that are licensed
separately.

2 Feature Scope
SAP Analytics Hub is a cloud solution that provides business users with a simple way to access trusted analytics
built on BI applications from SAP or other companies, whether hosted on the cloud or on-premise. Each SAP
customer uses the SAP Analytics Hub application to set up and maintain its own analytics hub.
Governance of the content is ensured by BI experts across the customer’s organization. These BI experts are also
SAP Analytics Hub subscription license holders.
Note
Because user management is controlled within SAP Analytics Cloud, the SAP Analytics Hub
Administrator requires a license for SAP Analytics Cloud.

3 Terminology
To get a clear understanding of SAP Analytics Hub, it’s recommended you familiarize yourself with some key
terms:
Term Definition
Analytics Hub A system that connects to multiple BI systems and provides centralized services for
consuming trusted BI analytics in a secured, cloud environment.
BI Analytics A pre-built analysis technique for extracting business insight from data and creating
alerts, lists, and interactive data visualizations.
Asset An object on the Hub that contains links to BI analytics and relevant information about
them. An object displays as a tile.
Content The information and links to BI analytics included into an asset.
Facet An attribute or characteristic of a dataset, which is used to group together values based
on a category; for example, “Geography” or “Business Unit.” Facets can be used to filter
assets.
Layout The definition of metadata included in an asset and how this information is displayed to
business users; for example, as fields or sections.
Structure An object on your Hub that contains a hierarchy of links to assets, BI analytics, and
information about the BI content.

User roles
4 User roles
There are two types of SAP Analytics Hub user role:
• Standard roles: available on the SAP Analytics Cloud Admin Console by default
• Specific roles: created by the SAP Analytics Hub Administrator, who has administrative rights to SAP
Analytics Cloud.
Note
SAP recommends customers create the specific roles included in this table, as a way of maintaining
control over the content lifecycle of your assets.
User management is controlled within SAP Analytics Cloud.

Administrator
Sets up the analytics hub for an organization, using the SAP
Analytics Hub application. Can perform all content management
actions available to other user profiles.
Note
The SAP Analytics Hub Administrator requires a license
for SAP Analytics Cloud.
Standard
SAP Analytics Hub
Content Viewer
Can view assets and save assets as favorites. This type of user is
typically a business user.
Standard
SAP Analytics Hub
Content Creator
Can create, update, and validate or reject draft assets. Can also
hide, unhide and delete hidden assets.
This role can be divided into two specific roles, as follows, to
ensure control over content creation and validation:
• SAP Analytics Hub Content Editor
• SAP Analytics Hub Content Validator
Standard
SAP Analytics Hub
Content Editor
Can create and update draft assets.
Note
Draft assets need to be validated by a user with a
Content Validator profile before they become available
to users of your analytics hub.
Specific
SAP Analytics Hub
Content Validator
Can review and validate the draft content prepared by Content
Editor(s). Once validated, these assets become available to the
Content Viewers, or business users, of your analytics hub.
Specific
SAP Analytics Hub Chief
Content Editor
Can view, modify, and validate draft assets created by any of the
users who have a Content Editor profile.

5 Features
The following description of features is organized by the various user scenarios supported in SAP Analytics Hub:
• Viewing assets
• Creating, editing, and validating content
• Managing the structure and design of your analytics hub
• Managing user profiles
5.1 Viewing assets
SAP Analytics Hub gives users access to a catalog of assets, displayed as tiles. An asset provides:
• links to one or more BI analytics
• useful related information
5.1.1 Key features
Feature Description
View assets The full list of assets available on your analytics hub is displayed on the All
Assets tab. Assets are ordered alphabetically, by title.
Search Users can search for assets by key word, using the Search field.
Display asset details Users can click on an asset to view details about the BI analytics to which it
links.
Open analytics To access the analytics linked to assets, users require user permissions for
the applications on which those analytics are built.
For example, if an analytic is built using SAP Crystal Reports, the user
requires permissions for the SAP Crystal Reports application.
Note
User permissions are managed by your BI Administrator.
My Favorites Users can save assets as favorites. These assets appear on the My Favorites
tab.
Recently Used Assets most recently consulted by users of your analytics hub are listed on
the Recently Used tab.

Feature Description
Picked for You Users with a Chief Content Editor or Administrator profile can identify assets
that the users of your analytics hub will find of interest. These assets are listed
on the Picked for You section of the Home page.
Most Viewed The assets most viewed by users of your analytics hub are listed on the Most
Viewed tab. These assets are ordered by number of views by all users.
Sort Users can sort the order in which assets are displayed, using several sort
criteria.
5.2 Creating, editing, and validating content
Users with the appropriate user privileges can create, edit, or validate the content of assets.
For more information, see User Roles.
5.2.1 Key features
Feature Description
Create or edit draft assets When assets are created, edited, or duplicated they are in Draft mode by
default. Assets in Draft mode can’t be seen by uses of the analytics hub, with
the exception of users with content editing privileges who can see the Draft
assets they have created.
Insert, edit, or remove links to
analytics
Links to BI analytics can be added to assets. These analytics may be created
using SAP analytics software or using analytics software from third parties.
Add, edit, or remove content
of assets
Descriptive content and links to useful information can be included in assets.
For example, links to internal documents or email addresses of internal experts,
who can provide additional information or authorizations to the analytics to
which the asset links.
Make draft assets visible Draft assets can be made visible only when they have been reviewed and
validated by a Content Validator, a Chief Content Editor, or the Administrator.
Once visible, assets can be seen by all users.
Hide assets Content Validators, Chief Content Editors, or the Administrator can hide visible
assets, if they believe that the content of those assets shouldn't be displayed to
users.
Note
A hidden asset still exists on the hub, but it can't be viewed or edited by users.
Hidden assets can be deleted by Chief Content Editors or the Administrator.

Picked for you Visible assets can be selected by Chief Content Editors or the Administrator so
that they appear in the Picked for You section of the Home page. This section is
used to promote assets that you want users to see.
Duplicate assets Draft and hidden assets can be duplicated by Content Editors, Content
Validators, or the administrator. This is useful if you want to use an existing
asset as a template to create a new asset.
Delete assets A draft or hidden asset can be deleted.
Note
The Content Creator, Content Validator, Chief Content Editor, or
Administrator profile is required.
5.3 Managing the structure and design of your analytics hub
Users with an SAP Analytics Hub Administrator profile can define the layout and structure of assets and the visual
look-and-feel of your hub. Two tools are available to do this:
• SAP Analytics Hub Cockpit – designed for users with BI Administrator competencies

The SAP Analytics Hub Cockpit application is available with SAP Analytics Hub starting with SAP
Analytics Hub version 17.09.
• SAP Analytics Hub REST API – designed for users with Development competencies
The following table provides an overview of the features available using both tools.
5.3.1 Key features
Feature Description
Layout You can define how to arrange elements, such as sections and fields, on an
asset.
Insert Fields You can insert fields into assets and then enter text, a link, or assign Lists
of Values (LOVs) to those fields. You can organize fields to create sections
within an asset so that users can navigate from field-to-field using the links
behind each section title.
Create Lists of Values (LOVs) You can define metadata for assets, so that business users can filter those
assets by specific attributes or characteristics. You do this by creating
LOVs. You can also edit or delete LOVs.
Assign Lists of Values (LOVs) You can assign LOVs to fields on an asset.

Feature Description
Assign LOV fields to Refine Bar You can assign fields containing a LOV to facets on the Refine Bar of the
SAP Analytics Hub Home page. The name of each facet is the title of a List
of Values; for example, “Geography” or “Business Unit.” Facets can be
used to filter assets.
Branding You can give your analytics hub corporate branding, by displaying a name
and including an image.
Download Users with an SAP Analytics Hub Administrator profile can download all or
partial data from the hub.
Note
The API allows scripting for complex operations, for example for migration purposes.

5.4 Managing Users
User management is done within SAP Analytics Cloud. The SAP Analytics Hub Administrator requires a license for
SAP Analytics Cloud.
Note
In addition to the standard user roles available for AP Analytics Hub, SAP recommends customers create
some specific roles, as a way of maintaining control over the content lifecycle of your assets. For more
information, see User Roles.
