Toilet Guide Use this quick reference guide to help choose the right style of toilet to match your soil pipe fitting options.

Close Coupled / Open BackThe most common type of toilet sold in the UK, the Close Coupled / Open Back is a floor standing toilet where the cistern is fitted to the back of the pan. The cistern comes with Dual flush activation and the open back pan is designed to allow for soil pipes that come out at a right angle to the left or right. It is also suitable for soil pipes that go straight out through the wall or into the floor (space depending).

Close Coupled / Flush FitLike the Close Coupled / Open Back this is a floor standing toilet where the cistern is fitted to the back of the pan. With Dual flush activation, the pan fits flush against the wall concealing any pipe work leaving a tidier finish. This does however mean that the toilet can only be fitted with the soil pipe going straight out through the wall or into the floor (space depending).

Close Coupled / Extra HeightAgain the Extra Height Close Coupled toilet is floor standing and the cistern is fitted to the back of the pan with Dual Flush activation. These toilets benefit from a higher seating position than a normal toilet, aiding less abled individuals and making them more comfortable for taller users.

Back to WallThe back to wall pan is floor mounted, designed to fit flush against furniture and be used with a concealed cistern that is situated in the furniture. The toilet can also be fitted against a wall if fitting the concealed cistern inside the wall is a possibility. Soil pipes can be sent left or right and straight out of the wall if installing furniture which will hide the pipework.

Back to Wall / Extra HeightLike the Back to wall pan, this is floor standing toilet, designed to fit flush against a furniture unit with a concealed cistern. The Again the toilet can be fitted against a wall if fitting the concealed cistern inside the wall is a possibility. These toilets benefit from a higher seating position than a normal toilet, aiding less abled individuals and making them more comfortable for taller users. Soil pipes can be sent left or right and straight out of the wall if installing furniture which will hide the pipework.

Wall HungThe wall hung pan is designed to fit on a Wall Hung Frame system which allows the toilet to sit clear of the floor. To fit a wall hung pan you need to be able to fit a frame system inside your wall cavity or box out to allow for the frame. The frame usually comes with a cistern and flush plate and an option of soil pipe connector meaning you have flexibility on where your waste pipe goes.

The wall hung pan is designed to fit on a Wall Hung Frame system which allows the toilet to sit clear of the floor. To fit a wall hung pan you need to be able to fit a frame system inside your wall cavity or box out to allow for the frame. The frame usually comes with a cistern and flush plate and an option of soil pipe connector meaning you have flexibility on where your waste pipe goes.
