CONSERVATION
Conservation is the protection, preservation, management, or restoration of wildlife and natural resources such as forests and water. Through the conservation of biodiversity the survival of many species and habitats which are threatened due to human activities can be ensured. Other reasons for conserving biodiversity include securing valuable Natural Resources for future generations and protecting the well being of eco-system functions.
In-situ conservation is on-site conservation or the conservation of genetic resources in natural populations of plant or animal species, such as forest genetic resources in natural populations of tree species. It is the process of protecting an endangered plant or animal species in its natural habitat, either by protecting or cleaning up the habitat itself, or by defending the species from predators. It is applied to conservation of agricultural biodiversity in agro ecosystems by farmers, especially those using unconventional farming practices.
1.BIOSPHERE RESERVE Biosphere reserves are areas of
terrestrial and coastal ecosystems promoting solutions to reconcile the conservation of biodiversity with its sustainable use. They are internationally recognized, nominated by national governments and remain under sovereign jurisdiction of the states where they are located.
TRANSACTION ZONE Several human activities can occur in the manipulation zone.Example: Settlements, cropping, forestry, recreation etc.
2.NATIONAL PARK A national park is a reserve of
natural or semi-natural land, declared or owned by a government, that is restricted from most development and is set aside for human recreation and environmental protection.
Eg: Eravikulam national park and silent valley.
4.KAVU Kavu is a traditional natural sacred
space seen near traditional homes in Kerala state of South India.
