PRISMIC ® Power Management System at Sangachal Terminal, Azerbaijan Introduction Sangachal terminal is one of the world’s largest integrated oil and gas processing terminals. Located 55km south of Baku, it is a vital link in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry. The terminal receives, processes, stores and exports crude oil and gas produced by Azerbaijan’s offshore oilfields in the Caspian Sea. Treated crude oil and gas at the terminal are pumped to storage tanks and finally exported via pipelines for onward shipment to the world’s markets. Sangachal Terminal covers an area of 500 square km, which makes it one of the world’s largest oil and gas terminals. PRISMIC® Power Management System at Sangachal Terminal, Azerbaijan

Introduction

Sangachal terminal is one of the world’s largest integrated oil and gas processing terminals.

Benefits of the PRISMIC® Power Management System

The PRISMIC® Power Management System (PMS) consists of an integrated electrical power control system with intelligent control units located in seven locations around the site using Ethernet over fibre for communication.

The PRISMIC® PMS provides automatic supervisory control of the nine generators to ensure correct system voltage and frequency. Generator power is controlled by the PRISMIC® PMS to ensure that turbine emissions are minimised by automatic operation according to turbine dry low emissions (DLE) requirements.

The PRISMIC® PMS also provides automatic generator start sequencing, generator VAr control, automatic transformer tap changer control and comprehensive intelligent load shedding for the 84 load feeders.

Five dedicated HMI PCs are included with the system to allow full operator interaction at each outstation with operator control permissions being controlled according to a carefully defined hierarchy.

Key Points

Standard PRISMIC® PMS Functionality includes:

Frequency and real power control (base load and sharing) via engine governors.• Voltage and reactive power control via generator AVRs.• Operator initiated turbine starting and stopping • Generator base loading.• Grid incomer MW and MVAr target control• Tap changer control to maintain main voltage at nominal and to maintain VArs to a • target preset. Voltage of platforms without generation is also maintained at a preset target.Fast acting load shedding in the event of a generator tripping off. This included a • step load limit in situations where the turbines capability to accept load was limited.Gradual overload load shedding due to excessive increase in load demand.• Under frequency load shedding.• Load start inhibits to prevent loads being started during periods of insufficient • spinning reserve.Synchronizing of all 11kV bus ties and interconnectors.• Dead bus control of all 11kV bus ties and interconnectors.• Circuit breaker discrepancy for all 11kV breakers• Circuit breaker open/close control of all breakers.•

Special PRISMIC® PMS Functionality includes:

Shed excessive VAr to limit the flow through the grid incomers cable.• Generator dry low emmision (DLE) mode. DLE machines are prevented from • operating inside a preset area. Sharing set enables loading to be maintained outside this transition band.Emergency generator trip. If an emergency generator is connected, when the last • 11kV power source is lost, it will be tripped.
