Dr Paul Tipton is an internationally acclaimed Prosthodontist who has worked in private practice for more than 30 years. He is the founder of Tipton Training Ltd, one of the UK's leading private dental training academies and the author of over one 100 scientific articles for the dental press. He was voted in the Top 20 'most influential dentists in the UK' by his peers in Dentistry Magazine in April 2012, the leading Prosthodontist in the poll and was voted in the top 5 dentists in Private Dentistry's Elite 20 poll, January 2012. Dr Tipton qualified from Sheffield University in 1978 and in 1982 opened his own referral practice in Manchester. He continued to build his skills, studying at Eastman Dental Hospital in London, where after 2 years of study, he obtained a Masters Degree in Conservative Dentistry in 1989. In 1989, Dr Tipton started teaching on the University of Manchester's MSc in Restorative Dentistry. He is now a lecturer on the MSc programme in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry and also lectures at Kings College London (LonDEC). His private dental training academy, Tipton Training, was founded in 1991 and to date over 2500 dentists have completed a one-‐year course at the Academy. In 1992, Dr Tipton was awarded an honorary Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was appointed a member of the British Dental Association's Independent Practice Committee. In 1999, he was certified as a Specialist in Prosthodontics by the General Dental Council. Dr Tipton is on the editorial board of Private Dentistry Magazine, The Journal of Indian Prosthodontics Society and Implant Dentistry and is a medical writer and part of the advisory board at Expert Beauty Magazine and 'Woman's' magazine. He was a founding member and on the Board of Directors of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is the past president of the British Academy of Implant Dentistry and is currently the President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry. He was recently elected Fellow of the International Academy of dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE) and Associate Fellow of the University of Warwick. Course Presenter Dr Eugene Marais BChD Implant Surgeon President of the Britrish Academy of Dental Implantology Dr Eugene Marais qualified at the University of Pretoria in 1988. He moved to East London where he worked as an NHS Associate until 1992, when he bought his own practice in Hornchurch, Essex.

In 1994, Dr Marais embarked on the implant bandwagon, firstly completing the Misch Implant Institute’s (MII) prosthetic course in Michigan, USA and then the MII surgical course in 1995 in Pittsburgh, USA. Shortly after he completed the MII advanced bone grafting course, to include ridge augmentation and sinus lifts. To-‐date, he has placed about 3,000 implants and performed 350 sinus lifts. Having successfully negotiated the fellowship exam in 2000, he became a fellow of the MII. Biohorizons implant company then appointed him as their Clinical Director in the UK, and partner in the UK distributorship.

Since 2004, he has run 6-‐day surgical courses in the UK, with the help of the University of Alabama, where he holds the title of Visiting Professor in the implant faculty. In 2008, he was invited by the Indian Implant association to be keynote speaker at their annual symposium, where he delivered a lecture on narrow diameter implants. In 2009, he was awarded Diplomat status of the ICOI (largest international implant forum).

Course Presenter Dr Goran Urde DDS Prosthodontist President of the European Section of the British Academy of Dental Implantology. Prosthodontist at the Malmoe University, Sweden. Dr Urde received his dental degree from Faculty of Odontology, Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden in 1979. He has held faculty appointments at the Karolinska Institute, the Brånemark Clinic at University of Gothenburg, Eastman Dental Hospital, London, and the United Medical & Dental Schools of Guy´s & St. Thomas Hospitals, London. Dr Urde has held a variety of positions with Nobel Biocare throughout US and Europe, to include System Specialist, Manager of Clinical & Scientific Support, Manager of Professional Support and Market Director. Dr Urde has published and lectured extensively worldwide on dental implants and practice management and is currently on staff as a Prosthodontist at the Copenhagen Implant Centre, Denmark. At present Dr Urde is responsible for the prosthetic lecturing at the one-‐year High Diploma in Implantology program at Nicolas & Asp College of postgraduate dentistry in Dubai, in collaboration with Gothenburg university, Sweden, and is accredited by UAE, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.



Course Presenter Dr Andrew Legg BDS MFDS RCS Ed Implant Surgeon Dr Andrew Legg graduated from the University of Manchester in 2001. He joined a large dental practice in South Manchester the same year becoming an associate in 2002. He then became a partner in August 2003 following the departure of two esteemed colleagues. This extensive experience in general practice has given Andrew grounding in all aspects of dental care allowing a fully comprehensive approach to patient care. In 2004 Andrew began his postgraduate training in Oral Surgery and Implant Dentistry and has since undertaken over 300 hours of training including an 18 month Clinical Certificate in Implantology at the University of Sheffield and Advanced Surgical Training at the Royal College of Surgeons. More recently Andrew passed his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Andrew has experience with several of the major implant systems as well the use of Nobel Guide CT scan guided surgery. He has a particular interest in the use of 3D stereolithographic modelling from CT scans and their application in reconstructive implant dentistry. Andrew also works as a Clincial Teaching Fellow in Oral Surgery at the University of Manchester.

Senior Course Instructor Dr Richard Malloch Implant and Restorative Dentist Dr Malloch qualified at Newcastle Dental School in 1995 and worked in a mixed private/NHS practice in Sunderland for three years practising general dentistry. He then worked in a private practice in Clitheroe, Lancashire for a further seven years. It was during this time that Dr Malloch started the first of four of Paul Tipton’s postgraduate courses, the Restorative Theory Course. After finishing the implant course in 2003 he embarked on his implant surgical career, working for Dr Tipton at his practice in St Ann’s Square, Manchester for three years, from 2005 to 2008, carrying out cosmetic dentistry, general restorative dentistry and implant restorative cases. During this time until the present, he is a senior instructor on Dr Tipton’s courses. Dr Malloch is currently completing his dissertation for a Masters in Clinical Dentistry (MClinDent) in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics at King’s College, London. He resumed his implant surgical career in 2009 working for Kissdental, Manchester. Here, he restored many full-‐arch fixed bridge and overdenture cases. From 2011 to present Dr Malloch divides his time between Love Your Smile, Hunslet, where he places and restores implants, The Hospital Group, Birmingham, where he carries out cosmetic and implant dentistry and instructing on Dr Tipton’s courses.



CPD Requirements CPD is a continuing learning process that complements formal undergraduate and postgraduate education and training. The Dental Council’s Code pertaining to Professional Behaviour and Dental Ethics states that all dentists have an obligation to maintain and update their knowledge and skills through CPD. The Dental Council recommends dentists complete and keep records of at least 50 hours of CPD per year, at least 20 of which should be verifiable CPD. While the amount of CPD hours completed may vary from year to year, dentists should complete at least 250 hours of CPD every five years, of which a minimum of 100 hours should be verifiable CPD.

Course Objective The One Year Implant Dentistry Course will help to develop the skills and confidence to tackle implant treatments. You will place implants on live patients under supervision during the first few days of the course. You will also receive helpful marketing advice for offering implant treatments at your practice and learn how to restore all implant situations from single teeth to partial implant bridgework to overdentures and full ararch bridgework with immediate loading (Fixed Teeth in a Day).

Course Content A 11-‐Day Course in Partnership with Nobel Biocare (4 weekends and 3 Sundays, see Timetable) in the form of seminars, lectures and hands-‐on practical’s presented by Dr Paul A. Tipton, Dr Eugene Marais, Dr Goran Urde, Dr Andrew Legg and Dr Richard Malloch. There is also an additional Live Implant Surgery day available (Sun 23rd June 2013), where delegates place implants with Dr. Urde and Dr. Malloch. And there is also an additional Rest Practical Session (10th November 2013) with Dr. Tipton and Dr. Malloch. The attendance this weekend is optional. This course will take place weekends only, you earn while you learn, as no clinic time is lost.
