All my life I’ve lived in the city of Hyderabad. Both my parents are from an

orthodox Hindu family. My ancestors were mostly scholars. My family continues to

follow the customs preached by my forefathers. I consider myself lucky to be born

into a family that grew and evolved through the channel of education. he in!uence

from my parents and the curiosity to explore and con"uer the physical world outside

lead me on a never ending "uest for knowledge. #espite coming from a veryacademic background my parents have encouraged me to see the truth and wisdom

that lies in other activities. $or instance% not too long ago I’ve started a study group

in my community to read the ancient scriptures of the Hindu religion. &hile this is a

fun and educational it also helps me embrace the serenity in a world that is

constantly reacting to technologies that constantly steal our attention. &hile

academic challenges gave me the drive and motivation to move forward the

inspiration from all other aspects of life have added depth and meaning to my life.

My mother being a homemaker left no stone unturned. I was positively

encouraged by my parents to explore every twitch of my curiosity provided it made

moral sense. $rom learning motor skills to learning to play sports no interest of mine

was ever looked down upon by my parents. 'ot one of them was valued more than

the other due to external (udgments. My interest in )hysics eventually led me to

study *omputer +ngineering. his happened to be one of the few things I was

graciously able to explore thanks the encouragement of my parents. I credit both

my parents for introducing me to the vast opportunities to help me grow as a

person.

 o talk about my school it has taught me everything starting from AB*s in

kindergarten to the alpha% beta% gamma in High ,chool grade. My schooling focused

not only on the academic aspect but strong foundational skills for a valuable

individual in society. I’ve learned to be organi-ed% value work ethic% work hard for

my goals and of course well mannered. Hyderabad being a diverse city in!uenced

by people of dierent religions and cultures provides an understanding of how

similar and dierent people can be. his increased my tolerance to accept the

dierences people bring to the table while still retaining my own value set. A

teacher’s encouragement and direction of my athletic interests have led me to

pursue badminton as a sport and compete in a regional level. Asian /evel ,pace

,ettlement #esign *ompetition is another extra curricular activity I’ve participated

in. his competition consisted of performing as a team with people of dierent

backgrounds in a professional manner.

&hile my parents% school and my own personal experiences till now have

given me ample challenge and motivation to stay driven and pursue further goals% I

feel 0niversity of *alifornia is the university that will not only provide me with

academic challenges but also life opportunities that I will be able to cherish even

after my college life. I feel the need to take a leap towards greater things to grow as

a person and contribute to the society that I’ve been placed in. I sincerely feel

0niversity of *alifornia is a place for me to do this.
