About us

• Landlocked sovereign State located in the north-eastern part of the Italian peninsula and has been an ICAO Contracting State since 1988.

• Member of European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC)Is compose of 44 European Member States is an integral part of the ICAO global air transport family and deals with all aspects of civil aviation.

• Aircraft Registry was officially launched during MEBA-Dubai 2012, since then we have achieved registration of 83 aircraft and executed three (3) ICAO Art. 83bis bilateral agreements:

Serbia, Lebanon and Nigeria

• Aircraft Registry is Open to Private/Corporate and Commercial Operations under ICAO Art. 83bis arrangement, or the operator may apply for an Air Operating Certificate (AOC).

Aircraft Registration

• An aircraft registered in San Marino shall be exempted from taxation or import duties if the fixed-wing aircraft maximum take-off weight (MTOW) exceeds 5,700kgs. On the other hand turbine helicopters are tax and import duty exempt regardless of their MTOW.

• The entire registration process is straightforward and can be accomplished in 1 to 3 business days following the airworthiness inspection of the aircraft.

• San Marino Government created a legal framework that offers aircraft owners’ flexibility in the ownership and operation of aircraft by foreign individuals and corporate entity.

• Owners establishing aircraft owning companies in a Jurisdiction of Choice, and using the services of the San Marino Aircraft Registry, may enjoy substantial financial and operational benefits.

Eligibility for Registration Foreign individuals and companies qualify to register or maintain the

registration of their own aircraft in the Registry once they have elected a representative.

1. For private and corporate aircraft

2. Aircraft to be operated commercially under a foreign AOC utilizing an ICAO Article 83bis agreement

The representative will act as an address for service with the only responsibility to transmit to the owner any relevant official transmission of notices and notifications from our Civil Aviation Authority.

Airworthiness

Type Certificate • A Type Certificate (TC) and the associated Type Certificate Data Sheets

(TCDS) issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States, Transport Canada, or the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) will be acceptable to the CAA SMR.

• The Type Acceptance Certificate (TAC) covers the entire aircraft and any

engine/airframe combination covered by the TCDS. Certificate of Airworthiness • The Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A) is valid for up to three (3) years for

an aircraft operating in accordance with CAR OPS 2 (General Aviation). This means that the inspection, inspector’s travel and subsistence costs are applicable only for the initial inspection and every three (3) years thereafter.

Maintenance

Maintenance Organisation

• Under the San Marino regulations, the CAA SMR automatically accepts an appropriately approved maintenance organisation from the following Competent Authorities as meeting the equivalent standards of CAR 145 within the scope of work as stated in the approval. 1. EASA Part 145 organisation 2. UAE GCAA CAR 145 organisation

• The CAA SMR can also accept an approval granted under US FAR

Part 145 or Canadian TC Part V, Subpart 73 in accordance with their applicable regulations and some additional CAA SMR requirements.

• In other cases, a maintenance organisation may be approved subject to meeting CAA SMR CAR 145 requirements.

Who will not be affected?

Operators who are not established or residing in the Community. This would typically be an operator based in the Middle East, Far East, Russian Federation and obviously San Marino.
