The Aspen is an amazing tree in every sense. It can be likened to the human spirit, as each individual tree is interconnected by a single root and has the ability to flourish in changing environments. Much like the Aspen tree, San Juan College is an institution made

of wonderfully distinct individuals, all joined by a single purpose Student Success. This commitment anchors us all as we work together. As you read through this years annual report, you will see that, similar to the Aspen tree, our roots run deep with a commitment to make a difference in the lives of the students and community we serve.

I am proud to announce that San Juan College was one of only 13 community colleges in the nation selected to participate in the American Association of Community Colleges Pathways 2.0 project. This project is significant to San Juan College in that it improves our processes in streamlining students educational pathways and helps to ensure their success. Speaking of success, I invite you to join me in congratulating the

Academic and Career Engagement (ACE) Center, for being honored with the 2017 Outstanding Program of the Year by the New Mexico Higher Education Department, Adult Education Division. This is one of many examples of how our interconnection has expanded its purpose from simply helping students prepare for a high school equivalency exam to broadening their potential and furthering their career and life goals. Congratulations to San Juan College High School (SJCHS), as

the Class of 2020 achieved some of the highest scores in the state for the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and

Careers (PARCC) test. Students scored number one for K-12 in English Language Arts Standards (ELA), and number two in the state for proficiency in math. This test was administered to all 10th graders in the state of New Mexico; however, SJCHS students took the test as 9th graders. Our early college high school is yet another example of what can occur when individuals come together with a common purpose ensuring our students not only succeed, but exceed their own expectations. These are just a few of the successes we are celebrating in this

years annual report. As we move into 2018, we are introducing our new mission, vision and strategic directions which further define our purpose and serves to guide us in the years to come. As you can see from just a few of these accomplishments, our roots run deep at San Juan College and throughout our community. We have been here for 61 years and will continue to work together with you to deliver the desired future for our region.

    Kind regards,

    Presidents Message

Nursing Program graduates first BSN/ADN class

    Pathways to success

Four students became the first ever to graduate with an Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) from San Juan College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree simultaneously. Anysha Ambrose, Brittany Eustace, Darcy Foutz and Misty Wilson became the first graduates of the program. It began with a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between San Juan College and the University of New Mexico (UNM) on July 4, 2014. The program is a result of the New Mexico Nursing Education

Consortiums (NMNEC) statewide common curriculum. San Juan College is able to participate in this innovative nursing curriculum redesign as a full-member NMNEC school due to San Juan Colleges regional and nursing accreditation.

San Juan College was selected to participate in the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Pathways 2.0 project. Pathways 2.0 institutions are committed to designing and implementing structured academic and career pathways for their students. San Juan College was one of only 13 community colleges selected to participate through a competitive application process. Participation in the

It is focused on ensuring that all students have clear pathways for these in, through, and out experiences. San Juan College looks forward to significant changes that will benefit all students and ensure their success.

Thanks to the San Juan College Foundation for providing the $135,000 necessary for participation in this three-year program. This financial support will make employee training possible.
