    Frills & Thrills

Embellishment is back! From bejeweled shapes to dazzling lace appliqu overlays, wedding-dress decoration is all the rage on the runways. Courting center stage at the altar are garnished gowns making a major comebackand a serious sartorial statementfor summer nuptials. Expect a parade of glorious presentations from top designers, who have restyled frills to fanciful new levels. We love the reboot of ruffles, and covet of-the-moment ornamentation, from full fluttering bows to tiered tulle trimmed with tasteful expressions of sparkle and splendor. Bijouxed and satin-belted waists recall Hollywood glamour; de-murely floraled shoulders and billows of British-inspired lace

kick up the romance quotient in a modern way; and embossed bodices and feathered necklines all know how to make an en-trance. Even impeccably tailored minimalist looks are benefit-ting from this beautificationthink classically refined archi-tectural touches titivated with subtle treatments. If its all out glamour youre after, youll likely find it dripping in faux dia-mondsglistening crisscrossed backs, dramatically enhanced dcolletage, intricately detailed couture collars, haughty halters and big-time shimmer prove that this season is all about the shine. Simply brilliant! Jenn Thornton

    FLOWErS

    Bespoke Blooms

From budding altars to imaginative blooms cascading from unlikely places, uniquely arranged flowers are ad- orning weddings in fresh new ways. With floral designers taking bold chances, bespoke botanicals bloom anew, with one-of-a-kind creations taking root from ceremony to reception. While the waterfall wedding bouquet enjoys a bold second act as dramatic wall dcor, creatively grouped flowers dress ceilings and deck doorways. And though the floral archway is nothing new, its look is fresher than ever, with designers stepping up their game to re-conceptualize clustered flora in forms both edgy and artful. Succulents

are finding homes in unusual assemblages featuring feath-ers and branches; citrus-themed centerpieces sweeten up tablescapes; streams of garland modernize the once-sacred ceremonial canopy; and slackly hung strands of unsung blossoms, like the comeback-carnation, provide DIY flair and, taken up a notch, full on flourish. If all else fails, give petals mettle, either in a loose-leaf display circling the base of trees, to jazz up a panache-less pathway, or as floating garnish in custom wedding cocktails. Talk about a bou-quet of flavors! Jenn Thornton

Just in time for big-day summer soirees, birds take flight. From fondant fliers providing a new take on cake, to spar-row-shaped confetti, to elaborate birdcage centerpieces, winged wedding dcor is perfect for lovebirds. For the cer-emony, bird watching is in full effect; down the aisle, the trend takes shape in feather-accented florals (bouquets! bou-tonnires!); at the altar, a reinvented ring pillow features a nest creatively concealing wedding bands. As the flock flies to the reception, the scene soars, with a DIY aviary fes-tooned with a mix of high-low finery giving way to wing-

themed tablescapes and Audubon-accented birdcages. Bird-seed doubles for rice, and birds nest with blooms in sweet arrangements that get everyone tweeting. Upping the favors game are birdhouse gift boxes and tea towels embroidered with the days featured creature; reimaging the guest book, meanwhile, is the duty of a dove note tree, featuring paper cagelings serving as winged messengers for tender missives. Finally, programs, place cards and paper garland etched with the seasons of-the-moment motif set hearts aflutter. This season, bird is the absolute word! Jenn Thornton

    Mint to Be!

Gracing the green scene at weddings everywhere is the color mint, a tamer version of Pantons reigning color of the year, and a particularly sage choice for the now-trending affair. Freshening up guest gifting are mint-tinted favors in a spec-trum of charms coated in the candy-bright color. Dressing up everything from edible sweets to personalized tea tins, mint is a hit at both contemporary and eras-past-inspired weddings, accenting modern-day affairs and playing right into the vin-tage-decor craze. Drenched in this summer-soft saturation, newly minted favors tantalize when paired with gold packag-

ing, and look equally lovely with lilac and bespoke with bur-lap. Light-green lemonade in old-timey bottles makes for a great takeaway, as does mint-scented soaps and candles, along with retro confectionary like minty cake pops and macaroons. These trinkets take their place next to more literal interpreta-tions of the trend, be them mint-filled linen sachets or prettily potted plants. Mint also makes its way into evergreen endow-ments like candles and the custom-labeled brigadethink matchboxes, playing cards, and pencils. Now thats what we call a minty-fresh remembrance! Sara & Chris Prato April 13, 2013, Oak Farm vineyards, Lodi

Sara and Chris met in college. Their story is one of two friends who became something more. It spans over seven years of dating, including grad school and long-distance romance, and ends with a dreamy wedding in a place not-so-far from the beginning of their tale. During their long-distance stint, while Sara was in Seattle and Chris was in California, Chris made frequent trips to visit his love. One of the first places they visited in Seattle together was Orcas Islands. It was our go-to place when he would visit, Sara explained. That is where Chris asked for Saras hand in marriage. He proposed on the beach, where the water met the sand, and thus began their wedding planning journey. Organizing the event was a bit challenging, as they were incorporating local and out-of-state aspects into their plan as welllike the Bridal Ale from Pike Brewing Company in Seattle. However, thanks to Chris mom and grandparents, and a lot of other family and friends, the wedding was per-fectly put together and went off without a hitch. Sara remembers the gorgeous weather, the perfect blossoms on every tree, and that her 90-year-old grandmother had a wonderful time. We could not get her off the dance floor, Sara said. She also recalled the starry-eyed sunset photos, we were just sitting there watching the sunset and it was memorable because we had a moment to ourselves, to reflect on the day.

Cherie & Kevin GreshamOctober 27, 2012, viaggio Winery & Estate

Cherie and Kevin worked together at chilis restaurant in Turlock years ago, which is where they met and became friends. After a while, it turned into something more romantic and led to a six year relationship. Kevins proposal completely took Cherie for surprise. They went to Laguna Beach, for a weekend getaway. After arriving, they had a nice dinner and then made plans to wake up super early the next day (4 a.m. early). The next days activity was a surprise; she had no idea where they were going, or even what to pack. Then, on the morning of October 9, 2011, they woke up and started driving inland. An hour and a half later, they pulled into a winery in Temecula; there were hot air balloons everywhere. I had always wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride, Cherie said. Kevin proposed to Cherie as they floated up into the sky. The wedding itself was wonderful. My mom was super involved and she helped me out so much, Cherie said. Without her, nothing in my wedding would have been the way it was. Kevin surprised Cherie with his garter dance routine, which he had been working on prior to their wedding day. He put on a show for all of the guests. It totally got the party started. Everyone got in the mood to dance afterward, she said. Cherie looks back at her wedding day and is so grateful for the help from her mom and little brother. There werent any snags and everything went perfectly.

Megan & Justin CarrollJuly 22, 2012, Wine & roses, Lodi

Megan met Justin five years before their wedding day. They met through a mutual friend who thought the cou-ple might just hit it off. After one quick bar intro and a birthday party later, the two became inseparable. They moved in together within a year. Justins proposal, several years later, was perfectly romantic and completely un-expected. He took Megan to a Napa winery, along with mutual best friends, and proposed to her at the winery fountain, with a castle in the backdrop. We both cried. Everyone at the winery was in on it. They brought out champagne. It was super awesome; such a cool day, Megan explained. Planning the wedding was as seamless as their relationship. Megans mom was their wedding planner. She made it so easy on me. I would have never been able to do it without her; she was amazing, Megan said. They planned the wedding in eight months and each and every vendor they hired surpassed their expectations. The wedding itself conjures memories Megan will cherish forever, like walking down the aisle to the same song her mother used on her wedding day, and shopping for her wedding dress. When she and her mother found the dress, it was a special moment and they both began to cry. When I look back at my wedding day, I still just feel blessed. I never thought my wedding would have been so magical and special. I cried when it was overI did not want it to end, Megan said.

Gianna & James Goins May 4th, 2013, viaggio Winery & Estate

It was an instant, love-at-first-sight kind of thing, Gianna recalled. James and Gianna met, started dating and be-came inseparable. His proposal came within a year, in a magical and fairytale sort of land. We got there the day before and didnt go to Disneyland until the next day, Gianna said. They took a picture in front of the castle, and then went about their day at the park. By the end of the day, James wanted another photo in front of the castle. When Gianna turned around for the pose, he was down on one knee. After she accepted, the end-of-day parade whizzed by them, like an indirect celebration of their future nuptials. James children were very excited about the wedding. And as they began to plan a vintage-style gala, Gianna remembers James daughter saying that she was going to call her mommy as soon as the wedding was over; and, she did just that. She gave me a big hug and said, mommy, Gianna said. Their celebration was as perfect as they could have imagined. There were no hiccups; everything just flowed. James daughter was their flower girl and his son was their ring bearer, with his stuffed Elmo in tow. His son is the happiest little boy in the world, Gianna said. This new family is now complete, and James kids are truly a focal point. They are really important to me, Gianna said. From love-at-first-sight, to a whimsical proposal, this little family will surely find their happily ever after.

Allison & Adam Johnson February 15, 2013, ruby Hill Winery, Palm Event Center

Allison and Adam met at work in 2010. It was a little bit of bothlove at first sight, but also a friendship, Allison recalled. We were also a little afraid of the work relationship. They took it slow and started with lunch dates in the beginning. They spent their first full date night together at the Alameda County fair, where they ran around and ate bad fair food; and they found out they seemed to like all the same things. Its been a joke of ours for a long time that it all happened over a big pulled-pork sandwich and a beer, Allison said. We totally fell in love that night. They also started a photo booth tradition at the fair, where they will go back and have their photo taken every year moving forward. Adams proposal was nothing less than amazing. The two went on a business trip to New York, where Adam planned a visit to 30 Rock. Given they are both in the construction industry, he knew Allison was excited to see the famous black and white construction photo and statue. They went to the top of the building, and Allison looked over the edge, down at the city. When she turned around, Adam was down on one knee. Of course, she said yes. Planning the wedding was a bit stressful, but once they found the place, everything else fell into place. Their wedding day went perfectly. I was prepared for something to go wrong, but nothing did, Allison said. It was a flawless day. We laughed that we didnt want it to end.

Kellye & Cody CatonAugust 11, 2012, Borges Park, Farmington

Kellye and Cody met on a blind date in high school; on prom night nonetheless. She was 15 years old and he was 17. The magical introduction led to three years of dating, until college prompted a mutual breakup. Although their rela-tionship was on hiatus, their family did not lose touch. In fact, Kellye and Codys mom became great friends during that time. It truly foreshadowed the future, as time and distance did not leave the young couple at the end of their story; Kellye and Cody reunited after their four year break, only one year after Codys mom passed away. Codys proposal arrived on a cold winters eve, during a country, Christmas-lit drive; it was a beautiful end to their new be-ginning. He pulled over, started to cry, and gave his best words to his completely shocked bride-to-be. Of course, she said yes. And, although wedding planning was a bit stressful, Codys mothers friends were immensely helpful. They took Kellye and Codys ideas and ran with them. The wedding itself was more than they anticipated. Everything was flawless, from getting ready in the morning, to the venue and event. A lovely memory for Kellye was her new hus-bands surprise, as he chose the song for their first dance. She will always remember the perfect dance to I love the way you love me, by John Michael Montgomery. And, albeit emotional, as Codys mom was not present, the couple found solace and comfort within each other. It was a beautiful day, a stress-less event and one to be cherished, always.

Brittany & Brady DavisSeptember 14th, 2012, Lake natoma Inn

Brittany and Brady met at Tillys coffee shop in Lodi. Brittany was waiting for her mom to get off of work and Brady stopped in for lunch, to visit a friend who worked there too. They were friends for a long time before they started dat-ing. But, once they did have their first date, Brady asked Brittany to be his girlfriend that very night. His proposal came years later, during a trip to LA. They chose that destination to specifically visit Magic Mountain. He proposed to me in front of Magic Mountain, Brittany said. He was super nervous, it was so cute. The wedding planning was really easy. Bradys mom helped out a lot. She was really helpful, Brittany said. The actual wedding day, was pretty chill, she said. Brittany and her bridesmaids stayed in the hotel the night before the wedding and got ready there in the morning, while the guys played Nintendo 64 in their room before the actual ceremony. Shell always remember her dad starting to cry, right before he walked her down the aisle; he was proud and happy for her. During the recep-tion, guests enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere. A lot of the wedding party and some of the family members played flip cup with the bride and groom (a fun beer game). The groomsmen performed the Jewish tradition of Horah Hava Nagila, where they lifted both Brittany and Brady on chairs. It was fun, and a little scary, Brittany said. But, over-all, she remembers it being fun. It didnt feel like the typical cookie-cutter wedding, she said. We liked it that way.

Melissa & John FritzDecember 1st, 2012, Hutchins Street Square

Melissa really didnt think shed meet anyone online, especially not a potential hubby-to-be. But, to her surprise, she and John met via an online dating website and went on a long-lasting first date she did not want to end. They were en-gaged a year later. Over that time period, Melissa started to train for a local race that supports breast cancer, so John became her training partner. They would take long walks together, which helped grow their budding relationship. One of their walks led them to the alley where they said goodbye after their very first date. John caught Melissa by surprise by getting down on bended knee and proposing to her. He told her that he wanted this alley to be the first and last spot they would ever say goodbye to one another again; from there, they would spend the rest of their lives together. John planned a brunch with their families the next day to celebrate their future nuptials. Melissas mom, sister and her six bridesmaids collaborated on all of the wedding planning. Each one of them helped with a specific aspect of the plan, which made things a lot easier on Melissa. Their wedding day was perfect. It was a magical day, Melissa said. At night, it rained so hard, but everyone was dancing inside and having a great time. She will truly cherish their anni-versary dance, instead of doing the traditional bouquet toss. Anyone who was married got to come out on the dance floor, Melissa said. People were asked to leave the dance floor after so many years of marriage had been called. At 30 years, the dance floor was still completely covered with people, Melissa said. It was amazing to see how many couples were still married. All in all, their wedding was really about the people, rather than the glitz and glam of getting mar-ried. It was a celebration of love.

Julie & BrettJune 23rd, 2012, Berghold Estate Winery

Julie & Brett started dating while they were attending Lincoln Law School in Sacramento. He opened the door for me as I walked into school, Julie said. They dated for four years before becoming engaged as they wanted to get through school, pass the bar, and start their careers first. As clich as it sounds, I knew Brett was the one from our very first date, Julie said. Bretts proposal came during the couples trip to St. Thomas, on Lindquist Beach. Brett had everything planned out perfectly, including finding and hiring a local pho-tographer to capture the proposal, Julie said. From there, they had a wonderful time planning their wedding. They enjoyed everything from the cake, food and wine tastings, to writing their vows and choosing the mu-sic. The wedding day was exactly how they would have imagined it. The wedding was a dream come trueI just wish it didnt go by so fast and that I could experience that day all over again! Julie said. She will forever cherish the two first looks she experienced on her wedding day, first with her dad and then with Brett. The ceremony and reception were complete bliss, and the end of the evening was bitter sweet. We were given a grand farewell as we walked hand in hand through a tunnel of light created by sparklers held by our guests, Julie said. It was a day we will never forget.

Ashleigh & Jake AshbyApril 27th, 2013, Classy Country Weddings

Ashleigh met Jake through Jakes cousin, their mutual friend. They started hanging out during their summers in college. They officially started dating when Ashleigh went to visit Jake at school. The first part of their relation-ship was long distance, and they slowly moved closer to one another over the years. Once they both ended up in Modesto, things became more serious. One morning, they were on their way to a party for Jakes cousin. Ashleigh recalled there was a bit of tension that morning. When they got to his cousins house, she noticed a scrapbook on the table outside. She started flipping through it and came upon photos of her and Jake together. The next page was of Jake, down on one knee. She turned around and there he was, on one knee as he began to propose. We were in the backyard and my family was inside the house, watching through the window, Ashleigh said. Everyones family was there. Before they even started to plan the wedding, she wanted to find her dress first. After she found it, the planning began and everything started coming together. Jake agreed to most everything I wantedbut the guys could not wear pink and the food needed to be BBQ style, she said. The guys ended up wearing jeans; it was comfy and depicted their style. The wraparound porch was perfect for the bridal processional; and Ashleigh remembers breaking down and crying when she came around the corner and saw her dad. The ceremony was ex-tra special as Jakes cousin got ordained in order to marry the two. Another great moment: Jakes best friend from childhood sang their first dance, Carried Away, by George Strait. It went very wellit all fell into place. Every-thing came out great, Ashleigh said.

Drennen & Tanner GatzmanSeptember 22nd, 2012, Dodasa ranch

Drennen and Tanner met at the Oakdale rodeo in 2008, which set the theme for their future relaxed, ranch-style wedding. After three years of dating, the couple went to San Francisco to celebrate the time they shared with one another. It was also right before Drennen graduated from Sonoma state. They spent the day hiking around Angel Island, enjoying the beautiful October day. As they walked, they discussed future plans. Tanner spent the entire time convincing Drennen that marriage would not be a good thing right now. After their hike, they boarded the ferry for Alcatraz. We finished the tour and Tanner lured me outside to look at the night lights of the city, she said. A few minutes later, Tanner went to find someone to take their photo. He had a short conversation with a ranger who worked on the island. They took their photo, and then Tanner turned in toward Drennen and got down on one knee. He said, do you remember that big long conversation we had on the island about not getting married right now, and I said yeah, she said. He went on to propose and then she squealed, cried and said yes. Their wedding planning was fun. They wanted it to depict them, as individuals and as a couple. They spent a lot of time with DIY projects, like making all of their centerpieces together. Drennen, her mom, her aunt, and brides-maids put together all of their flower arrangements. Everything from start to finish had significant meaning to both of us, she said. We believe weddings are a celebration of the bride and groom, so our wedding was a reflec-tion of us. One of Drennens favorite memories of the day: the love note she passed to her husband-to-be during the ceremony. I wrote Tanner a little note that the flower girl gave to him before I walked down the aisleit said, I cant wait to kiss you.

Alma & Rafael BeltranJuly 21, 2012, Elegant Essence

Rafael and Alma met at her graduation party, through mutual friends. He sat next to her, and she turned to him and said hi neighbor. From that very moment, they got along perfectly; they had a lot of fun talking to each other that day. He asked her out on a date and they planned to meet the following week. We fell for each other without even knowing Alma said. We always said we were perfect for each other. They liked the same things, had similar ways of thinking, and they allowed each other to be real with one another. I knew she was the one the moment I felt that I couldnt be without her, Rafael said. I would catch myself thinking about her at all times. His proposal came during an impromptu trip to San Francisco. I decided to take her on a random late night trip, he said. Overlooking the water at Pier 39, Rafael asked for Almas hand in marriage. The wedding planning was fun, from the beginning to end. They supported one another through the entire process. I was treated as a prin-cess when planning the wedding, but always took his taste and ideas into consideration, and we made it into the wedding of our dreams, Alma said. Thats what love is all about, merging two worlds together and letting them flow, which is what made our wedding unique and unforgettable. The wedding day was amazing. It was better than they imagined it would be. From the start to the end, everything turned out perfect, Rafael said. Alma will remember seeing each other on their wedding day, right before they left for the church. Rafael will cherish seeing his bride-to-be walk down the aisle. He said, I will never forget removing her veil and looking into her eyes as we were about to join our lives into one.

Rowena & Sam FairbanksMarch, 9 2013, Elkhorn Grill

Rowena and Sam met during a meeting at Kingdom Hall. I remember seeing him standing there, and then I tripped as I walked over to him, Rowena said. We were so different. She did not initially consider him to be her type. But, over the following year, she got to know him, and how kind he was; and then, he asked her parents for permission to go on a date with Rowena. My mom was floored and absolutely loved it, she said. They started dat-ing in December and got engaged six months later. Their proposal was one Rowena will always cherish. After their meeting at church, they went out for ice cream. Baskin Robbins is my favorite place in the world, Rowena said. I am an ice cream fiend. Once they arrived, she noticed that her family, and his, were all there. They were nicely dressed and started taking out their phones, and then Sam got down on one knee. I was crying and shaking while I nodded my head, Rowena said. It was great. It was perfect. At that point, the wedding theme was set: Baskin Robbins all the way. Even though the actual planning was quick and a bit difficult, the wedding day was perfect. There was honestly nothing that went wrong, Rowena said. It just went too fast. She will always remember her fun wedding theme, with chocolate ice cream molds as favors and wedding colors in pink, purple and Baskin Robbins blue; but, shell mostly remember all of their family who came into town from all over the country to help celebrate their nuptial bliss. And, Sams dad is an elder within their church community. He is actually the one who married us, she said. It meant a lot.

Tiffany & Ian StanMay 4th, 2013, Heirloom Inn

We met at work, Ian said. At a company meeting. Tiffany remembers feeling instantly attracted to him, but was also very intimidated. I thought he was out of my league, Tiffany said. They both felt an attraction and knew they wanted to spend more time with one another moving forward. And they did just that. They began dating and moved in together within six months. A year later, they bought a house, and two years later had their twin boys. They got engaged just a couple years after their boys were born. We stayed in Monterrey for the weekend, and went to dinner to celebrate Ians birthday, Tiffany said. They took a walk on the pier and stopped to gaze at the ocean view. He said, I got you something, and pulled out a box and I knew immediately what he was going to do, she said. As soon as Tiffany said yes, they heard an uproar of applause from a nearby balcony audience. Plan-ning for the wedding, however, was not as stress-free. Tiffany did a lot of the planning herself, while also taking care of their children. But, the wedding day was amazing. The food was great. The cake was delicious. It was all exactly how I pictured it, Tiffany said. Their 11-year-old son was their best man and their twins were their ring bearers. Although, one little ring bearer would not leave Ians side; he stayed in daddys arms as his mom and dad said their vows. And, as the mother and son dance began, the same little twin danced with Ian and Ians mother. It was a three-way dance, Ian said. Tiffany enjoyed dancing with her oldest son during the same song. All in all, it was a very easy, low-key wedding. It was exactly how I would dreamed it would be, Tiffany said.

  • n Honeymoon

Old school romance,By Jenn ThornTonPeak-chic Park City finds footing as a honeymooning haute spot.

The historic Egyptian Theatre, in Park City, Utah, has, like the town itself, quite a past. Not as scandalous as its namesakes shrewdest ruler Cleopatra, mind you, but juicy nonetheless. Take former pianist, Blanche Wiest, who tickled the ivories at the Egyptian during the silent-screen eraand the fancy of the venues then projectionist, a smitten Roy Fletcher. Though Fletchers initial marriage proposal met with rejection, he persisted and the pair would go on to marry, raise a family and find happily ever after in Park City.

Old West and romance might seem like an unlikely union, but not in Park City, whose storied slopes and celeb-studded Sundance Film Festival get all the love. Still, caresses of rambling mountains, grassy fields, and sprawling backcountry make Park City perfect for paramours. A swift drive from Salt Lake City International Airport, this silver mining colony turned posh mountain outpost woos honeymooners year-round, courting them with world-class recreation and luxury accommodation. Of these, most are big-brand hotels. And though flashier resorts flaunt expanse, boutique Washington School House Hotel (washingtonschoolhousehotel.com) kicks up the class quotient with uniqueness to spare.

68 San Joaquin Weddings I Covering San Joaquin County

  • Bespoke service and style make the hotel the towns toniest hospitality option, and its top choice for honeymooners. So unless immediate ski-in, ski-out access tops your list of essentials, bunk here, where the in-town hotel benefits mightily from proximity; its just minutes from Park Citys Town Lift and mere steps from the shops and restaurants lining buzzing Main Street, but far removed, in both tone and translation, from the chat-tering crowd.

Ideal address aside, this Western-chic roost is romantic in all the right ways. Emerging from a top-to-bottom renovation, the former schoolhouse was established in 1889 and subsequently served as a veterans hall, an abandoned hangout for hippie skiers, and a

quaint B&B before being scooped up by its San Diego-based ownership and gutted down to the studs. The result is a completely re-concepted yet totally unpretentious wonder, delighting with a sophisticatedly spare design scheme, featuring a beautiful mix of antique furnishings and modern conveniences, pack-aged to perfection with urbane flair. Nodding to its rich heritage, black-and-white photos of past pupils who once occupied these modified spaces give way to contemporary spoils, like a pool with town and country vistas; a mini apothecary that re-imagines the souvenir with silk scarves and other trinkets; and a luxe lounge, featuring plush banquettes and seating, a magnificent fireplace and a dramatic, white-lacquered chandelier glisten-ing in the cast of the blaze below.

Owing its brilliance to the mod-meets-vintage interplay, Washington School House Hotel incubates a swoony dance with dalliance no matter where you rest your head. But with any luck, let this be the two-story Lofted One-Bedroom Suiteone of 12 total rooms that functions more as a quiet corner apartment. Here, the hotels ethosun-derplayed elegance mingling with impeccable service standardsis truly elevating. Downstairs, a sette-appointed living area avails a dramatic chandelier, towering nine foot windows, and a spiral staircase; upstairs, a separate open-loft sitting area features an inviting French daybed and serene sleeping chamber hosting a sink-in king-size bed dressed in crisp-white Pratesi linens, made all the more bril-liant by the contrasting rich hardwoord flooring throughout the hotel. Cascading curtains, meanwhile, cocoon the space for sectioned-off slumber.

Elsewhere the situation is equally generous, starting with a gracious staff clearly taking its cues from the at-your-every-whim service playbook. Always attending but never chaper-oning, they hit just the right pitch, supplying an insiders view of Park City highlights if asked (do it, they wont lead you astray) and French press coffee around the clock (even, ahem, during the middle of the night without raising an eyebrow).

At turndown, beside amenitieseverything from hardcover tomes of Henry David Thoreau essays, to bottles of gourmet jelly beans, to freshly-baked smoresdiscreetly appear, while breakfast produces a surplus of fresh-off-the-griddle pancakes, satiating omelets and mountain-ready muffins, and afternoons brings aprs-ski snacksespecially delight-ful when enjoyed in front of the fire with sweetie at your hip and wine in hand.

Just whisper your honeymoon wishes and no telling how the scale will tip at amazing. Whatever the production, it will be wholly original, and always make the grade.

PCPersonified! A hit list of sees and dos in Park City.

For those whose Old West notions still include trumped-up tall tales and rook swindlers, this just in: Park City is swank! Having traded its outlaw past for flat-out finery, PC boasts a bevy of highlights.

For a low-lit dinner, decamp to Purple Sage (purplesageparkcity.com). Its lavender-tinted inte-rior and historic facade complement a delicious American-Western menu, where a starter of ultra-crunchy potato chips (topped with Point Reyes blue cheese!) primes the palate for standout meatloafa house-made signature worth its billing as a local favorite. (When its time to hold hands under the table, this is the place.) For a livelier vibe, join the exuberant imbibing at High West Distillery and Saloon (highwest.com). Robust whiskey tastings and cocktails go down smooth, especially with

equally full-bodied farethe Melted Mountain Cheese small plate gives the stacked High West Burger a serious run for its money. And if big-time beef is your thing, youll score it here (and then some, portions are huge). Missed Sundance? Catch its founder, screen legend Robert Redford, gracing the walls in film stills (and sometimes, at a corner table) at his restaurant, Zoom (zoomparkcity.com), which plates a mean trout, I might add.

Joining these Main Street mainstays are fashion-forward boutiques like Flight (flightclothingboutique.com), Cake (shopcakeboutique.com) and art-driv-en Olive & Tweed (435.649.9392). Following the latters lead is Park Citys hidden gem the Kimball Art Center (kimballartcenter.org). A true beacon for the community, this art-education hub and museum offers classes for visitors and local alike,

and lures in top touring exhibits. So progressive, its drawn interest the attention of top architects across the world, including Bjarke Ingels, who won the Kimballs Design Competition to helm the facilitys planned expansion. Less contem-porary but still noteworthy is Park City Museum (parkcityhistory.org), which displays a surprisingly showstopping exhibit for such a small town.

Recreationally, Park City is a boon of opportunity, especially during summer, when roping, riding, rafting, and playing the back nine join fringe activities like the The Triple Playloosely translated this means shooting down an Alpine Slide, Alpine Coaster and ZipRider at terrific speeds at Park City

Mountain Resort (parkcitymountain-resort.com)and Olympic bobsled-ding, which you can experience for a hair-raising 30 seconds at Utah Olympic Park Village (utaholympi-clegacy.com). Here hopeful sledders learn to steer their own skeleton or luge, or rocket down the track in a bobsled aptly called The Comet. And while ski jumping at Olympic Park is off-limits (which, at 7,130 feet, is a relief), a chair lift up to its apex is highly recommended. Those who dream about becoming a proper herdsman, meanwhile, will find the grassy fields, rocky knolls, and authentic backcountry of surrounding Park City perfect for wrangling at one of many outskirt ranches.

For mini-mooning pleasures aplenty, travel the Central Coast. The region boasts a bevy of beachfront playgrounds, none better than San Luis Opisbo, a coastal-cool outpost dubbed the Happi-est Place in America. Why? A midpoint address between San Francisco and Los Angeles, just 10 miles from the Pacific, for starters. Plus, all this

ExPLOREHigh on the must-do marquee is Thursday nights lively Downtown Farmers Market (sanluiscounty.com), when peddlers, street performers, garage bands and freshly picked organics commence the towns biggest street party. From here, cool your heels (literally) in SLO Creek, which snakes through the middle of town, then, forsake the crowds at Bubble-gum Alley for a surplus of outdoor adventurestaple sports such as biking and hiking flirt with fringe recreation like hot-air ballooning. If cruising the coast, swing by Avila Beach (visitavilabeach.com)a locals secret, most tourists skip this place in favor of more popular pit stops in Pismo, but dont make the same mistake. If time permits, venture to neighbor-ing hubs San Simeon to visit storied Hearst Castle (hearstcastle.com), fog-shrouded Morro Bay (sidestep those sand dollars on the way to Morro Rock), and less commercialized Cayucos (its rickety pier delights).

EATPick up locally-made fromage at the farmers market and enjoy your spoils back in front of the fireplace on Granadas rooftop patio, or savor Spanish-inspired small plates at Bistro (granadahotelandbistro.

com). For casual fare, make your way to Morro Bay, where Taco Temple (805.772.4965) serves up zesty fish tacos on the cheap. Meanwhile, breakfast reach-es new heights at the delightfully offbeat Madonna Inn (madonnainn.com), which hosts a dizzying array of eateries specializing in gastro indulgences like syrup-soaked pancakes and pink Champagne cake.

DRINKSLO satisfies the palate with prize vintage (slowine.com). Its thriving wine scene starts with smaller appellations Arroyo Grand Valley and Edna Valley, which continues in rambling Paso Robles (pasowine.com), with its highly touted Rhone zone. Credit ideal fog to soil quotient for the high-quality wine production, which you can taste for yourself through-out the Central Coast, and in SLO proper at spe-cialty vino purveyors like Meze Wine Caf & Market (mezemarket.com). Vintage points like Baileyana (baileyana.com) and Sextant Winery (sextantwine.com) are also worth visits, and, along with zippy reds, Old Edna Townsite (oldedna.com) boasts a terrific deli, as well as picnic spots that pair deliciously well with wine platters. Cheers!

SLEEPThe swoony set bunks at Spanish-styled Granada Hotel, (granadahotelandbistro.com). The onetime host of 1920s-era vaudevillian stars who performed next door at the Elmo Theatre, the hotel is truly boutique, with only 17 rooms, all with bespoke touches. Even sweeter is the propertys rooftop lounge, the first in SLO; its industrial-chic eatery Bistro, and ideal proximity to the best of bispo.
