Ratings…What’s that?Referees must demonstrate proficiency at a certain level to earn a rating. Demonstrated proficiency means showing consistency over time in the following skills: • Apply penalties correctly and appropriately. • Maintain composure on the court. • Demonstrate control off the court. • Comport oneself well, and maintain a

professional image both on and off the court.

• Interact with competitors in a professional manner.

• Interact appropriately with coaches. • Demonstrate an ability to handle pressure

situations, make the same calls consistently.

Ratings Definition

• 1=Varsity Level crew chief - Demonstrates a good quality performance required to officiate seasonal and tournament contests.

2=Varsity Umpire at times Crew Chief - Better than the mean, high quality, better than the accepted level of performance. Typically, the quality of performance required to officiate mid and lower level seasonal and tournament contests.

3=Demonstrates - adequate, average, a solid performance. Typically, the quality of performance required to officiate seasonal and lower level tournament contests. Demonstrates Varsity eligible

4=Non Varsity - Official working towards inquiry skills and knowledge to earn a higher rating. Typically, an official who would benefit from training.

5=Non Varsity Qualified
