Dear Parents/Guardians

Scoil San Carlo becomes a very busy place for many of our 6th class pupils as they prepared for their Confirmation on Friday 16th March 2018. The pupils are taking part in the Faith Friends Programme organised and facilitated by Marion Lyons.

A huge Thank You to Marion and the volunteer facilitators for their commitment and support. We are looking forward to a very special Service of Light ceremony in the church on Thursday 8th February at 7.30pm I would like to thank the teachers involved, Mr Flatley and Mr Mc Creary, for preparing the pupils for Confirmation. I would also like to thank Mr Flatley and Ms Kirwan for music preparation and performance. We wish the pupils well as they prepare for their

Confirmation on Friday 16th March.

Grandparents Day Prayer Service Fr Tony O Shaughnessy is organising a Prayer Service in St Charles Borromeo Church on Wednesday 31st January for our 3rd class pupils to celebrate, acknowledge and thank all members of their families especially their grandparents, parents and those to whom they are much attached.

Parents’ Association The Parents’ Association has been working very hard this academic year. The huge contribution made by the Parents' Association allows the school to continue to provide a stimulating learning experience. My thanks to everyone for their contribution.

The Variety Show will take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th February.

The next fund raising event organised by the P.A.is a disco which will take place on Friday 9th February.

The Parents' Association are looking for volunteers, particularly from our 5th class parents to help with the Confirmation reception in the school hall. Volunteers are needed on Thursday night 15th March to help with preparation and display, then on Friday morning 16thMarch to help with serving and clean-up. Having enough volunteers is essential to the success of the Confirmation Reception. Parents who wish to volunteer may contact the school or any member of the Parents' Association.

School Calendar School will close for one week, from Monday 12th Feb to Friday 16th Feb 2018 (inclusive) for mid-term. School will be closed on Monday 19th March (Bank Holiday). School will close Friday 23rd March at 12 30 pm for Easter holidays and will reopen Monday 9th April. Please check the school website for other calendar dates at

School Website Our school website, is always updated and contains lots of valuable and interesting items, including news, information, links, important dates, photos etc.

Green Schools Flag Project The San Carlo Green Schools Committee was established in October 2015.There are two pupils from each class on the committee and this school year 2017/2018, we are working on the theme of Saving Energy to create a Sustainable Environment. Saving Energy is the second theme that schools undertake in order to achieve the second Green Flag. This theme looks at the steps which can be taken to reduce Energy Consumption and raise awareness of Climate Change issues.

Working on the Green Schools Committee, helps to create awareness about the energy we use in our lives and where this energy comes from. The children learn that we can all help to save energy, even by taking small steps in our day to day lives. They begin to take responsibility to pass on the message of Saving Energy to all the pupils, parents, families and staff of Scoil San Carlo Senior.

We are also continuing to develop our own compost using 'green' , 'medium' and 'brown' waste materials, with the help and support of Michael Hanly.

Peace Proms Concert Our 4th classes with the valuable assistance of Ms Kirwan, have been practising for the upcoming Peace Proms concert on Saturday February 3rd in the R.D.S. Ballsbridge, Dublin. This concert is a wonderful opportunity for our 4th class students to participate in an event with professional musicians and singers.

Keyboard Classes I would like to say Thank You to Ms Ward and Ms Kirwan for organising keyboard classes. Learning to play a musical instrument encourages and develops concentration skills, commitment and strong feelings of confidence and self worth.

Scoil San Carlo Choir/Band We enjoyed two wonderful performances before Christmas, under the direction of Maeve Townsend, Lisa Ward and Mary Kirwan. Our Choir/Band members are growing in confidence and skill. I would like to acknowledge my gratitude to Maeve, Lisa and Mary and to all the Choir/Band members for their commitment and generosity.

We are looking forward to the next performance which will take place in early March at Corfhéile na Scoileanna in the National Basketball Arena.

We are also involved in a wonderful, inspiring project ‘The Primary Schools Ensemble Project’ organised by the Royal Irish Academy of Music and facilitated by the National Concert Hall. Performance will take place in the NCH on 18th April 2018. More details t follow.

As many of you are aware, our San Carlo Choir/Band have been invited to lead the St Patrick’s Day Parade on 17th March 2018- a wonderful honour and experience!

Credit Union Leixlip & District Credit Union comes to the school every Wednesday to facilitate pupils who wish to save. Pupils are given a stamp for each two euro they save. The saving habit is very beneficial for pupils and I encourage parents to help get the children involved in the credit union.

Leixlip Credit Union Schools Table Quiz This event will be held on Monday 29th January in our school. Pupils from all the primary schools in Leixlip are invited to attend. San Carlo will be represented by 4 teams,2 teams U11 and 2 teams U13.

Contact Numbers/Collecting child during school hours Please ensure that the school has your updated contact numbers. Please ensure that the school secretary is informed when you are collecting your child during school hours. If your child is in the yard, it is imperative that you officially sign out your child at the office.

School Garden We are looking forward to a wonderful Spring garden and a stimulating and creative outdoor classroom. Nesting boxes and bird feeders have been put in place. Daffodils are waiting impatiently to bloom.

We appreciate all help and support in creating a garden where children can enjoy the beauty and wonder of nature.
