The Administration, Faculty, and Staff St. Luke Catholic School

BEGINNING with the 1st Sunday of Advent, Nov 25/26, Catholics around the US will worship using the new English translation of the Roman Missal. Though some words are new, the mass itself is not changing. This change offers us an opportunity for liturgical and spiritual renewal. In order to facilitate the changes, we will produce a weekly bulletin insert to explain the changes and to deepen our understanding of the liturgy. We hope that through our educational process that everyone will enter the mystery of the Eucharist with greater awareness and appreciation. The informational insert will be in the bulletin every week beginning Sept 10/11 and continue through January.

GYM UPDATE: Our new gym is more than halfway done!

OUR BULLETIN NEEDS YOU

We’re currently looking for new advertisers for our bulletin. Ads can be viewed on the back page of this bulletin. Any parishioners who own businesses and would be interested in advertising in the bulletin, please call the Parish Office at 433-2777 ext. 110 or call Jesse Flores at (361)-537-8266.

It is through our advertisers that the bulletin is printed each week at no cost to our church.

SAME MASS, REVISED WORDS FOR OUR MUSICAL PRAYERS

Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent (November 27), Catholics around the US will worship using the new English transla-tion of the Roman Missal, Third Edition. Though some words are new, the Mass itself is not changing. As the US bishops remind us, this is an opportunity for liturgical and spiritual renewal. Learning to pray with new words, we enter into the mystery of the Eucharist with greater awareness and appreciation. Our music ministers are going to introduce music with the revised texts for the sung parts of the Mass over the next few months. To help us learn and pray the revised words and music, the music ministers will spend a few minutes, before Mass, going over these re-vised texts and music. We will begin using these as a part of the Mass before the November date (by permission of the Archbishop). The parts of the Mass, with revised words that we will review and sing, are the "Glory to God," "Holy, Holy, Holy" and "Memorial Acclamations."

We would like to thank the 100+ participants who enjoyed the 4 week Tuesday Evening Sessions of FFF. Fr. Jim gave a historical perspective on Ca-tholicism and the development of other Christian denominations. The emphasis was on Reconcilia-tion in order to follow Jesus’ desire "that they may all be One" (Jn 17:21). Fr. Peter Francis shed light on the passage of the blind man Bartimaeus who asked Jesus "I want to see" (Mark 10:51), leading us on a “Discernment of the Will of God.” Dr. Anto-nio inspired us to "see the big picture," which Je-sus names "The Reign of God," as the Lord's cen-tral message. Finally, Sr. Mary Fagan energized us to live the Kingdom by going deeper in our under-standing of Jesus' Parables. We thank our wonder-ful musicians. Finally, we express our gratitude to the directors of the last English Women’s ACTS, who assisted in sponsoring these weeks.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE NEXT 4 FFF TUESDAY EVENING GATHERINGS BEGINNING ON TUESDAY OCT. 4 FROM 7-8:45 PM AT THE PARISH HALL. We will once again have great speakers, special themes, and Spirit-filled ambiance to continue building our

parish community.

THURSDAY MORNING SCRIPTURE CLASS RESUMES

Thursday morning Scripture class resumes on September 15 at 10 am in Room 211. Al Eisch, former missionary to Peru for 14 years, lecturer to the Conference of Reli-gious in Peru and a mental health counselor,

will lead the group. Everyone is welcome and generally participants join the group when they are not occupied with another ministry in the church or community.

Mr. Eisch anchors the readings towards a better under-standing of the larger message of the Scriptures and this year will incorporate DVD archeological research presentations on the Holy Lands. Around 11am, there will be a social break. After the break, those who remain, or new persons who join, reflect on the upcoming Sun-day readings. The tentative topics for 2011-2012 are the books of Judith, Maccabees (the last historical book pri-or to the birth of Jesus) and the Gospel of Mark.

All are welcome any day that they are free and inspired to draw closer to the Source.
