The Power of Great Love

The only time Jesus crossed the borders of Jewish territory was on the occasion related in today’s gospel. He

was being aggressively challenged by the Scribes and Pharisees. He had achieved the kind of popularity that

is dangerous. He was hounded by crowds. The Cross was coming. He needed time to prepare His followers,

and there was no place for privacy in Palestine. He crossed the barrier into Gentile territory. No Jew would

willingly follow Him into Tyre.

Seeking a time of quiet before the turmoil of the end, he was confronted by the demand of human need that

never goes away. Never before have we seen Jesus fail to respond to a person’s cry for help. At first, he

ignores the woman’s request. That doesn’t stop her. She continues to shriek her case so strongly that the

disciples want Him to just “give her what she wants” to shut her up. Jesus calls her a “dog” a terribly insulting

name. She answers ironically. Nothing can stop her.

This woman begins by addressing Jesus with a political title, Son of David. A title for a powerful man, who

might grant favors. Jesus’ actions compel the woman to look at Him. Her faith grows as she sees Him more

clearly. She ends by calling Him “Lord.” Her request to a great man turns into a prayer to God. She begins

by following and begging, she ends on her knees in prayer.

Who is she? She is a mother who loves her afflicted child. Nothing will stop her. The love for her child

makes her approach a stranger. The love for her child makes her accept His initial silence. The love for her

child makes her able to see beyond and behind the words He uses. Her driving force is love. Audacious,

mother’s love.

Prayer begins in adoration and is shaped by love. Prayer that is answered has an indomitable persistence, a

passionate hope, and a refusal to be discouraged. The more love that is brought to prayer, the more irresistible

that prayer becomes to the God who is love.

El poder del Gran Amor

La única vez que Jesús cruzó las fronteras del territorio judío fue en la ocasión relatada en el evangelio de hoy.

El estaba siendo desafiado agresivamente por los escribas y fariseos. Él había logrado el tipo de popularidad

que es peligroso. Fue acosado por las multitudes. La Cruz estaba llegando. El necesitaba tiempo para preparar

a Sus seguidores, y no había lugar para la privacidad en Palestina. Cruzó la barrera en territorio gentil. Ningún

judío lo seguiría gustosamente en Tiro.

Buscando un tiempo de silencio antes de la agitación del final, él fue confrontado por la demanda de la

necesidad humana que nunca termina. Nunca antes hemos visto a Jesús fallar en responder al grito de ayuda

de una persona. Al principio, ignora la petición de la mujer. Eso no la detiene. Ella continúa gritando su caso

con tanta fuerza que los discípulos quieren que Él simplemente "le de lo que quiere" para callarla. Jesús le

llama "perro" un nombre terriblemente insultante. Ella responde irónicamente. Nada puede detenerla.

Esta mujer comienza dirigiéndose a Jesús con un título político, Hijo de David. Un título para un hombre

poderoso, que podría conceder favores. Las acciones de Jesús obligan a la mujer a mirarlo. Su fe crece a

medida que ella lo ve más claramente. Ella termina llamándolo "Señor". Su petición a un gran hombre se

convierte en una oración a Dios. Comienza siguiendo y mendigando, termina en sus rodillas en oración.

¿Quién es ella? Ella es una madre que ama a su hijo afligido. Nada la detendrá. El amor por su hijo la hace

acercarse a un extraño. El amor por su hijo la hace aceptar su silencio inicial. El amor por su hijo la hace

capaz de ver más allá y detrás de las palabras que usa. Su fuerza motriz es el amor. Audaz, el amor de la

madre.

La oración comienza en la adoración y está moldeada por el amor. La oración que se responde tiene una

persistencia indomable, una esperanza apasionada, y una negativa a desanimarse. Cuanto más amor es llevado

a la oración, más irresistible es la oración para el Dios que es amor.

The room reservation renewal will begin

soon. Therefore, all reservations forms

from last year are going to be obsolete.

The Parish Office has a contract for you

to read, fill out and sign before August

30, 2017. The new contract will be

effective in September 2017. There will

be no exclusions.

The office staff will not reserve meeting

rooms for any Group or Ministry that has

not filed the application. Meeting rooms

will be given to the first to come. Please

make sure you enroll on time to avoid

any inconveniences.
