Industrial Design Intern

EDUCATION

I am a young, ambitious Industrial Design Graduate, seeking employment as an Intern in the Inte-rior Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design or Real Estate sector. By nature, I am a determined, ambitious and capable designer. I am driven by a passion to bring each and every project from concept stage, to finished product, within a prescribed time frame. Having spent time in New York City, San Francisco, South Carolina and a brief period in Boston, I very much want to spend more time in America, gaining real, on the job experience.

See below sample portfolio of projects completed to date and, if you think there might be a position for me in your organisation, I would be delighted to meet with the relevant officer to discuss same.

HOW I DESIGN?

HOW I WORK?

When set a task, the starting point for me is to indentify the specific requirements of the end user and have him/her sign off on an unambiguous brief. In this way, no time is lost, thereby making it possible for me to de-sign products which are fit for purpose, aesthetically beautiful and, hopefully, capable of being manufactured on time and within budget. For my part, I draw inspiration from the natural environment around me. When design-ing, I try to bring a fresh/original approach to each and every brief assigned to me. Where appropriate, I endeavour to incorporate renewable resources as part of the design, but not to the detriment of the integrity of the end product.

I find it easy to work as part of a team and am just as comfortable in an Art Studio desiging a piece, as in a Boardroom making a presentation to a prospective client. I enjoy sharing my ideas, but expect this to be reciprocated from equally hard-working members of a highly-motivated team. Regardless of the task set, the challenge for me is to design a product much better than anyone else, more economically than anyone else and more aesthetically beautiful than anyone else.

PELICAN

WHAT IS IT? Pelican is a rainwater-harvesting system, powered by photovoltaic panels. It is inspired by the magnificent bird of prey, the Pelican, which uses the natural re-source of water to catch fish. Pelican can hold up to 60,000 litres of rainwater and, when it has reached maximum capacity, flushes the contents down through its central core pipe, thereby powering a hydro electric turbine. In addition, A 20kW P.V. panel sits on top of the Pelican, ensuring that wildlife and loose vegetation cannot fall into the water supply.

Typically, a Pelican is located in the courtyard of a hotel or commercial building, where the rainwater is harvested and descends to the basement storage tank. Since the Pelican is top heavy, it must be very well anchored to a concrete pad foundation to avoid toppling over.

Not only does the Pelican save money, it is a sustainable and environmentally friendly sculpture, which can be used as a charging point for consumer electron-ics such as phones and laptops, while acting as an inviting meeting point within any community.

Facebook Tracker is a customised earpiece that tracks your friends’ likes and locations. It is 3-D Printed to your ear’s shape so that it is the perfect fit, thereby enhancing performance.

In this digital age, we are becoming more and more disconnected from those closest to us, spending our lives behind the screens of our smartphones and computers, lowering our productivity in the process. Facebook Tracker aims to encourage social interaction on a grand scale.

From the tracking system, using GPS, it plots where your friends are in the city and suggests a mutually convenient meeting point. It tracks reviews of restau-rants, museums, music and travel experiences as well as their likes and even suggests new activities. It takes all of Facebook’s current applications and brings them into real life.

The Stealth Mouse was inspired by the F 117 Fighter Jet. My objective was to redesign completely the standard “mouse”. In giving it a sleek, aggressive look, that would resonate with professionals in the creative sector, gamers and online enthusiasts, its appeal should be strengthened greatly.

The angular form illustrates motion, similar to that of the Stealth aircraft, while the cursor represents heat-seeking missiles. Despite its sharp edges, it is ergonom-ically suitable for sustained periods of work.
