TURKISH FRESH CHESTNUTS STANDARD (TS-1072 Summary)Chestnut are classified by their TYPES, CLASSES, and SIZES

Types : MARRONS, CHATAIGNES, KUZU types.

Marrons are most tasteful type in the world mostly used for confectionery (Marrons Glaces etc..)This type is generally round oval shaped, light to dark brown coloures. Bottom is small and rectangle shaped. Pellicle can be easily removed. Marrons type chestnuts are being cultivated in several origins of Agean Region. Best marrons grown in Nazilli - Aydın area.

Chataignes type chestnuts are generally used for puree industry, Chataignes chestnuts's one side pressed generally, tip side is conic shape, dork brown skin. Bottom side is larger and it's length is double of it's width. Fruit is divided by pellicle which is not easily removed. Chataignes type chestnuts are being cultivated in Agean Region

Kuzu type chestnuts are very small sized very tasteful type which has one little zone pressed, tip sides are conic shaped. Shells are dark brown and little rectangle shaped. Fruit is not divided by pellicle which is easily removed.. Kuzu types are being cultivated in Blacksea and marmara Region

• Size properties :Chestnuts are divided into five sizes by total quantities per 1 kg; Extra large 45 - 55 piece /1kg Large 56-65 piece / 1 kg Standard (middle) 66-85 piece / 1 kg Small 86-100 piece / 1 kg

• Class Properties: Chestnuts are divided into three classes according to percentage ofdefected chestnuts quantity in inspected party; Extra, Class I. and Class. II.
