    Introduction

This DEMONWORLD army book provides you with background information about the Elves and their history, as well as detailed descriptions of Elvin armies and Elvin magic.

This enables you to field Elf armies in your DEMONWORLD games. We assume that you are familiar with the DEMONWORLD game rules. Therefore, only rules that are new, or that apply to certain troop types in a different way than usual, are given.

We recommend using at least the DEMONWORLD Intermediate Game rules if you wish to fully exploit the material presented in this army book. This is because point values for units (see chapter 'Recruitment') also take into account their morale, and armies with generally lower morale values would otherwise have an unintended advantage if you were to play with an equal number of points per side.

Further information about new DEMONWORLD armies and miniatures, events, and up-to-date news can be found on the Internet at www.demonworldgames.com.

    INTRODUCTION

Once the mightiest and most important realm in the known world, today Elvin influence is confined to a very limited region. Since the end of the wars against the humans, which led to the creation of the Empire, the Elves have played a rather insignificant role in the world. W ithdrawn deep into the forest of lconessa, for a long time they had little contact with other races. Only occasionally did the "forest devils", as human settlers call them, come forth to destroy all traces of human intrusion into their holy forests.

This situation has changed due to the raids of the Empire's former southern provinces into the forests and the appearance of the warlords of Thain in the Elvin settled northern territory. These two factors and the simultaneous increase in population among the tribes of Thanaril (the young forest dwelling Elves) has recently necessitated the Elves once again taking a more active part in world events.

Among the nobility of the Empire there is a growing interest in finding out more about the southern forests.

The possibility of acquiring abundant natural resources, as well as reports by merchants from the southern provinces who have dealings with men that have successfully penetrated the forests, have led many nobles of the southern Empire to consider expeditions into the forests of lconessa.

For the Thainians, the Elves are simply people of the forest, whom they fight as soon as their ships land on the wooded coast. For the woodcutters and Marenga gatherers from the southern provinces, the Elves are no more than dangerous natives who work counter to the economic interests of shipping companies, drug dealers and woodcutters.

Only a few people suspect that the forests of lnconessa continue to conceal at least a part of the might that once ruled the world.

    THE REALM OF THE ELVES

lconessa, as the realm of the Elves is called, lies southwest of the Empire in a giant woodland region. This forest is so ancient that some of the giant trees in its midst are the size of small mountains. Nobody can remember the time when these trees were mere saplings. The forest has, due to centuries of symbiotic interaction with the living Treemen, developed a consciousness of its own.

    The North

The northern border of lconessa is formed by plains which adjoin the Imperial provinces of Pandyom and Annakam. Human settlers continually try to gain a foothold on these plains, but abandon them just as quickly. The harvests are poor, despite the rich soil; the cattle disappear at night from the fields and predators regularly claim victims. Occasionally the "forest devils" will attack lone farmsteads and kill all the inhabitants. In the forest called "Galdilor" ("bright fields"), which lies south of this plain, wanders the warrior fellowship of Unicorn Riders, forever following the Unicorn herds. The Thanaril clans of the north stay in the forest and only rarely venture forth onto the plain.

  • The East

To the northeast, lconessa borders an inhospitable mountain range. These mountains contain the realm of Z'ahra, which is home to the race of Dwarves. The Dwarves of Z' ahra and the Elves of lconessa are uneasy neighbours. Both people avoid one another, though sometimes blood is spilled.

The ltelea range, an extension ofthe mountains of Z'ahra, reaches far into lconessa. Here human slaves mine mithril in the pits of Clunn, which the Ilah Ri turn into weapons and works of art. In the ltelea range at the summit of a high mountain lies the eyrie of the Pegasus Riders in the fortress of the Pellor ("grove of the clouds") .

The river Valnor forms the southern border of lconessa, which adjoins Z'ahra. Lately merchants of the southern
