Overview

The Hong Kong SME Business Sustainability Index (HKSMEBSI) is compiled by The Hong Kong Polytechnic

University (PolyU) to promote the understanding and adoption of corporate social responsibility (CSR) as a

business model for achieving business sustainability in Hong Kong. Based on the information on the SMEs with

proven records of excellent performance in undertaking CSR initiatives, the assessment is based on the VPI

model (Values-Process-Impact) developed by PolyU in which companies are assessed in the three main areas

under CSR values (Values), CSR management and CSR practices (Process), as well as the company’s

contributions to the economic, social and environmental sustainability (Impact). A composite index will be

compiled and announced biannually.

Collection of data for the 4th HKSMEBSI starts from July 11, 2016 and closes on August 19, 2016. Companies

are invited to complete the on-line HKSMEBSI questionnaire for their CSR/sustainability Values, Process and

Impact against their seven groups of stakeholders in the financial year of 2015-16.

Companies should provide relevant supporting information on CSR/Sustainability.

Verification of data will be carried out by PolyU from September to October 2016 and results will be announced in

November/December 2016.
