BTI 7000 Series: Dual 10G Multiprotocol Transponder The Dual 10G Multiprotocol Transponder (10G DTPR) is a flexible service-extension module designed for use with a variety of protocols. It provides dedicated WAN connectivity and support for 10G protocols used in today’s service-provider and enterprise networks. The 10G DTPR’s dual transponder— two transponders-in-one—architecture offers high-density extension of two independent client services or resilient protection of a single client service, and can be leveraged as a WAN service on-ramp or regenerator module in reach-extension applications. It is available in two versions: the 10G DTPR and the 10G DTPR Lite, whose differences are explained below. 10G DTPR Overview The 10G DTPR has two multiprotocol Small Form Factor Pluggable (XFP) client ports used for interfacing to subtending equipment. Client ports are software programmable to address a protocol mix of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) WAN/LAN PHY, G.709 OTN OTU-2, 10G Fibre Channel, and SONET (OC-192) / SDH (STM-64). Two XFP-based line ports utilize transparent line mapping (OTU2 G.709 digital wrapper) and facilitate WAN networking for extension of client services. Line and client ports support 850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm, CWDM, and DWDM XFP optics to provide support for various network configurations and to simplify sparing. The 10G DTPR can be configured in one of three ways: for unprotected dual line, for 1+1 facility, or as a regenerator for services emanating from other BTI Systems client service modules such as transponders, muxponders, or packetVX. Features

G.709 OTU-2 OTN Line Mapping

By mapping client signals to the G.709 OTN OTU-2 protocol, the 10G DTPR makes use of an embedded management channel (GCC) for remoteprovisioning and enhanced forward error correction (FEC) for superior signal quality, and enjoys simplified interworking with foreign networks.

Multiprotocol Support

Client ports are software programmable to address a protocol mix of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) WAN/LAN PHY, G.709 OTN OTU-2, 10G Fibre Channel, and SONET (OC-192) / SDH (STM-64).

Flexible Configuration Options and XFP Versatility

The 10G DTPR can be configured to carry two unprotected signals or one 1+1 facility protected signal, or to regenerate signals as a complement to theBTI Systems reach-extension portfolio offerings. Line and client ports support 850nm, 1310nm, 1550nm, CWDM, and DWDM XFP optics to providesupport for various network configurations and simplified sparing.

Service Oriented Performance Monitoring

Physical layer, SONET/SDH, Ethernet, and G.709 OTN (OTU2) performance metrics are available. This allows for efficient network monitoring andenhanced Operations, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) capabilities, and assurance of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) at all layers of thenetwork.

Automatic Protection Switching Based on Fault Detection

Rather than relying simply on loss of signal metrics for determining protection switches, the 10G DTPR constantly monitors signal quality to ensure thatprotection switches occur when faults occur or signal levels degrade.

Numerous Regeneration Options

The 10G DTPR can perform one or more of the following regeneration options: 2R (translation to assign the client signal to a proper WDM wavelength),3R (regeneration to extend the reach of the signal by performing an Optical-Electrical-Optical [O-E-O] regeneration) and 4R (reframe to modifyoverhead framing bytes of a signal).
