Assume that you are Varun Kakumani, a 3rd year B.Tech Civil Engineering student at XYZ Engineering College in

Bangalore and you are writing to a professor abroad, whose primary research interest is in the field of construction

management, to explore if there are summer internship opportunities available with her.

Dear Prof. XYZ, Hope you are doing well. My name is Varun Kakumani. I am a pre-final year B.Tech Civil Engineering student at XYZ College in Bangalore in India. I am writing to you to explore if there are summer internship opportunities (for a period of 10 weeks between May-Jul'14) available in your research group for which I may be considered. During my 5th semester I attended a course on Construction Poject Planning - 101 where I learned about management of different components (Manpower, Material, and Money) involved in a construction project and preparing an activity schedule in Microsoft - Project software. Now, I wish to develop a deeper understanding of resource optimization science in mega construction projects and while researching online, I came across a recent publication (title of publication) authored by you. Your expertise in the subject, presence of a multi-discplinary research group in the department, and access to some really big scale construction projects in the vicinity make me feel excited about the learning opportunities I'd have if I were to be selected. This internship would also be a stepping stone for my Masters that I wish to pursue upon graduation. Other than securing A grade in the above mentioned subject, I have an excellent academic record. I am well versed with using MS-Project tool to develop complex activity schedule, and intermediate knowledge of 'C' programming language to run simulations of a construction site environment. In addition, I have great attention to details, have worked in multi-cultural teams before, and possess a strong sense of ownership for my work. I believe if given an opportunity, I would be able to contribute significantly to your ongoing research projects in this field.
