Focus: Say: Today boys and girls we will watch a video about the rock cycle. Let me reiterate briefly on the cycle. It is a story of three rocks. Basically, rocks move around and change overtime because of heat and pressure inside the earth. Rocks also change on the surface of the earth because of weathering and erosion. Because of this process and other processes rocks change from one form to another. Please get out your notebook and write three facts that you learned as you watch the video titled Geologist’s Notebook.

Play: United Streaming Geologist Notebook segment Three Rocks or United Streaming segments Three Rocks into Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic. I have the segments downloaded both ways. Pause/Stop: Right before you get to igneous rock, pause and ask the children “How did this story of rock start?” What amount of time are we talking about here?

Focus Question: Say: This next segment we will learn about igneous rock. Find out what that word means (fire), where this rock was started and what process makes igneous rock. What makes this rock special (it is the oldest rock). Resume: the segment until you get to 2:26 and stop the video and ask focus questions.
