Dr. Majeed played a signi�cant role in 'nutraceuticals' and

After 14 years of working with reputable names in the American
pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Majeed �rst set up Sabinsa Corporation in
New Jersey, USA in 1988. Sabinsa's mission was to provide alternative
and complementary natural products, using innovative approaches for
human nutrition and well-being.
In 1991, Dr. Majeed set up Sami Labs Ltd in Bangalore, India, which does
ground-breaking work in unlocking the mystery of Indian Ayurvedic
Medicinal Plants, extracting the goodness and gifting the world with
good health, by combining ancient Ayurveda and modern medicine. Its
research facility in Bangalore has over 200 scientists involved in
specialized work in areas of phytochemistry, organic chemistry, peptide
chemistry, biological chemistry, plant biotechnology and fermentation
technology.
Under the leadership of Dr. Majeed, the Sami-Sabinsa group has grown
into a health science multinational organization with its presence in USA,
Europe, Japan, Australia, China, UAE, South Africa, Vietnam, Russia,
South Korea and Malaysia. It employs over a 1000+ people across its
seven manufacturing locations in India and one in USA.

Today, Dr. Majeed gives back in many ways, perhaps most signi�cantly
through the Dr. Majeed Foundation, which supports the children of the
poor families for their education.
Dr. Majeed recognizes the importance of providing support for
education, which is the centre stone of the foundation. Today, the
foundation focuses on providing scholarship for students who need
�nancial support, irrespective of their caste, creed or religion.
The core objective of the foundation however is to support the children
until they complete their education - making it a sustainable exercise.

Dr. Majeed believes that in order to produce rich supplements, the ingredients
should also be of very high quality.
Sami Labs Limited processes various spices and herbs with utmost care to retain
the natural colour, aroma and �avour at its optimum best. Sami is equipped with
sophisticated analytical instrumentation, the latest technology for chemical and
physical parameter evaluation of raw materials & products at each level of
processing so that the production is in compliance with the GMP standards. The
strict adherence to quality and innovation made Sami bag the "Spice House
Certi�cate" from the Spices Board of India.
Sami’s quality control starts at the farm level and runs through the entire gamut of
processing, right up to the application of GLPs (Good Laboratory Practices),
proper record keeping and documentation, packaging, labelling and shipping.
High Performance Liquid Chromatographs (HPLC) with UV and photo diode detectors are used to assess the purity and content of non-
volatile organic compounds.
High Resolution Capillary Gas Chromatograph (GC) with �ame ionization detector is used to assay volatile organic compounds.
A Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer (FTIR) for the identi�cation of various functional groups is available.
SAMI SPICES is owned and operated by Sami Labs Ltd. The company
dates back to 1988 when Dr. Muhammed Majeed established Sabinsa
Corporation in the state of New Jersey, USA with the objective of
importing and marketing generic drugs into the US for the drug
molecules coming off patents. Very soon he introduced it to the US
market a new line of products based on Indian herbs.
It was Dr. Majeed who introduced to the Americans that Ayurveda from
India can act as a complete curative to their various ailments. The
persistent efforts made by Dr. Majeed in the early nineties in the �eld of
Ayurveda did reap bene�ts among the Americans. To facilitate the
increased demand for innovative application-based products, Sami
Labs Limited (formerly known as Sami Chemicals & Extracts Limited)
was set up in 1991 in Bangalore as a research and development facility.
Today the main thrust and focus of Sami is on new product development
and market oriented research. To cater to the expanding global market,
Sami Labs has fully owned subsidiaries in USA, Europe, Japan,
Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, UAE, China, Russia and South
Korea.

SAMI SPICES manufactures high quality spice products in its state-of-the-art
processing facilities. The products manufactured include spice oleoresins
extract, essential oils and other value-added spice-based formulations.
Modern technology, good manufacturing practices and stringent quality
control on raw materials, processes and �nished products ensure high quality
and product consistency.
With its propinquity to the cultivation area, high grade raw material is assured at SAMI SPICES. The material for processing is carefully
selected using sophisticated quality tests. The various unit operations are carried out using mechanized technology, eliminating human
handling operations to a great extent. This ensures uniformity in production avoids contamination and af�rms reproducibility and
consistency of products from batch to batch. Additionally, many of these spices are put through a unique, green, solvent free process
“Super Critical Fluid Extraction” (SCFE). One of the earliest Academic-Industrial collaborations in the country, the extraction process
development innovated by the Indian Institute of Technology was adapted and commercialized by the Sami Group. The process of
extraction using this technology does not use any organic solvents.
Every facility is in compliance with manufacturing guidelines and regulations. All ef�uent streams are treated and disposed scienti�cally.
Re�ecting the internal system of quality and regulatory requirements, the facilities are certi�ed by National Sanitary Foundation of USA,
and the products by the Orthodox Union (Kosher) of USA and Ifanca (Halal) of USA.

Sami Labs received two Presidential Awards for Quality and Innovation in 1994 and for developing Export Markets for Garcinia cambogia in 1997.
