Samer & Co. Shipping, the main company of thegroup, was established in Trieste in 1919, as anoutpost of the British giant ship owner Ellerman &Wilson Lines, with the name of EWL AgencyCompany Limited.

In 1932 it was appointed Lloyd’s of London Agentsand in 1972 Agents for the Institute of LondonUnderwriters.

In 1981 the capital shares were taken over by theItalian shareholders, under the guidance anddirection of the Managing Director, Mr. DarioSamer, who had joined the company in 1952.

In 1985 the company name was changed intoSamer & Co. Shipping S.p.A. Trieste.
