WELCOME BACK!Needless to say, the past few months have been challenging. We’ve mourned the loss of summer camp and Teen Mission, of sports and vacations, of much of our ‘normal’ life. Some of us have been ill, have lost family members, have had simchas like graduations, sibling bar/bat mitzvahs, and family weddings postponed or cancelled.

And yet, there have been moments of hope, of joy, of friendship, of family that have really been the silver lining of this experience. We’ve loved seeing pictures of teens baking challahs with their parents, of sitting down to dinner together, of camping trips, of unlimited precious time to get to know each other in a different way.

We know that everyone – children, parents and grandparents alike - are returning to life this fall having grown tremendously, both physically and figuratively. Some are tanner, taller, wittier, and more independent, but EVERYONE is more aware of the world, more confident in who we are and what’s important to us.

There is magic during the summer, even during this pandemic, that is hard to replicate. But we come close in our youth programming, where our teens discover their true selves as Jews and leaders, make relationships that last a lifetime, and lay the foundation for a lifetime of Jewish engagement. And while this year will look and feel different than years past, we know that building relationships is the most important part of what we do. We are committed to an engaging, safe, meaningful year of programming and connecting with our teens and their families.

So…please come. Please remain part of our community, joining us for in-person socially distanced programming, and virtual classes and events. This year, more than ever, we need each other to stay strong, stay connected, and to support each other. We will all have to be flexible as we navigate this new world, but we cannot wait to share these special moments with each and every one of you. As always, your rabbis and mentors are here for you when you need us.

We’re ready to bring the magic. We hope you are too.

HIGH HOLY DAY SERVICES AND EVENTS

Yahrzeits falling on Rosh HashanahAs Rosh Hashanah begins on Friday evening, September 18th, we will not be reading yahrzeits that evening. If you are observing a yahrzeit that would normally be read during this evening’s service, you can choose to have your loved one’s name read during services on either September 11th or September 25th. Please contact Ellie Farber at [email protected] to let her know.

Yom Kippur Yizkor ServiceIt is our tradition at Temple Israel to honor the memory of those in our congregational family who have passed away over the last year. Typically, we list these names in a Memorial Booklet created for our Yizkor service during the High Holy Days. This year, we will be memorializing loved one’s by including their names during our virtual Yizkor service on Monday, September 28th at 11:30 AM. It is our hope that 5781 bring those who are bereaved continued strength, comfort and peace.
