TOUR DE BAROQUE The Residenz and cathedral area, complemented by the Benedictine monastery of St. Peter, can be experienced as a continuous tour for the first time in 200 years, allowing an exciting historical walk through the former prince-archbish-opric center of power with its varied history, unique architecture and important art treasures. MORE THAN A MUSEUMThe route passes through the state rooms of the Residenz to the Residenz gallery, through the northern arcade to the Cathedral and the Cathedral museum with its outstanding treasures. A tour of the museum reveals the full fascination of the natural world. At the entrance gigantic dinosaurs show how the world looked millions of years ago. Just a few steps away another section offers excitement in outer space and insights into the endless expanse of the universe. FARMING LIFE IN YEARS GONE BYA visit to the museum is like a journey through six centuries of life in the Province of Salzburg. Over one hundred original artefacts and buildings from all over the Province of Salzburg have been faithfully reassembled and furnished, including farmhouses and farmyards, mountain huts, blacksmiths workshops, mills, electric generators, creameries, breweries and many more. The oldest buildings date back to the 15th century. All the buildings are set in a natural environment and connected by a network of romantic walking paths.

OUT AND ABOUT WITH THE MUSEUM RAILWAYA 2 km narrow-gauge railway winds its way around the 50 hectares of the open air museum and runs the whole day. The museum train ride provides visitors with numerous interesting views of the museum grounds and the various build-ings. There are 3 station stops around the grounds. Your physical well-being will also be catered to. The cosy museum inn with its large outdoor dining area is centrally located on the museum grounds and even has its own train stop!

FARM GARDENS, NATURAL KNEIPP FOOTBATH, VINTAGE TRACTORSThe eleven farm gardens cultivated by the museum gardeners are a pleasure to behold – with typical herbs, flowers and vegetables cultivated as they were in the past. LARGEST ICE CAVE IN THE WORLDThis cave system was created by water flowing under the ground millions of years ago and later conquered by ice. It is unique the world over in every respect.

FACTS, FIGURES AND ITEMS OF INTERESTGiant chambers alternate with narrow passageways, small figures of ice with powerful sculptures of gigantic proportions. Water from thawing ice drips down in the spring, only to freeze in the cave and remain frozen, even at the height of summer. Almost the entire area on the tour is covered in ice.– 40-kilometer cave system – 1 km open to visitors– Tour with carbide lamps and extra-bright magnesium light– Cave temperature 0°C – warm clothing and sturdy footwear recommended– 20-minute walk from the visitor center to the base station for the cable car– Ride on one of Austria’s steepest cable cars – Another 20-minute walk to the immense cave entrance at 1642 meters above

sea level– There is an altitude change of 134 meters (1400 steps) within the cavern – All paths are secured by guardrails.– Not suitable for the physically disabled or the frail!

From Werfen, approximately 40 kilometers south of Salzburg, a 5-kilometer mountain road leads up to a car park and visitor center at 1000 meters above sea level. The access road is open for coaches up to 14 meters long.

WATERFALL CENTERAn ideal starting point for a visit to the Krimml Waterfalls is the modern Krimml Worlds of Water. This innovative adventure center is a combination of educational entertainment, sensory experience and active participation.

AQUASZENARIUM - A JOURNEY INTO THE WATERFALLThe heart of the Water Worlds is the modern Waterfall Center: The Aquasze-narium is a projection show that is unique in Austria and a blast for all ages. Recorded projections play on the floor and walls and can be influenced and changed by touch or footstep. This multimedia device immerses visitors in various playful water worlds: It starts with the wetlands at the upper falls of the Krimmler Ache, in which projected butterflies, grasses and fish can be played with interactively. It continues to a water level, where visitors seem to stand in the middle of the waterfall and can reach through the waterfall to grab apparent treasures. Then it goes down into the underwater world, in which the visitor is optically reduced to the size of microbes.

HOUSE OF WATER / AQUA PARKIn the exhibition area »House of Water« it’s all about the transfer of knowledge: With exciting experiments and surprising facts about »Hohe Tauern Health«, the health initiative with special offers for allergy and asthma sufferers. The new »Water Cinema« makes the slightest movements of the water surface visible by means of innovative technologies and specially programmed projectors. Outside, visitors are encouraged to become active: There is a water-animated figure »AquaMax«, an aquatic version of table football, and much more…

WASSERWUNDERBARThe new Krimml Worlds of Water includes a food court with a covered panoramic terrace and a total of 80 seats in the interior and outdoor areas. Naturally, a »hot spot« is also located here providing our guests with free access to the Internet via WLAN.
