How long is the Salkantay Trek in total?
The total for the 5 day trek is 70 km or 43.4 miles and the total for the 4 day trek is 63 km or 39.1 miles.
Can I do it?
The question we get asked the most: YES, you can!
Even though the Salkantay Trek is a total of 70km or 43.4miles (5 day version) most people can hike it. If you decide the trek is too
challenging mid-way through you can hire horses to ride on the trail until day 3. From Santa Teresa on, you can go by taxi to the
ydroelectric station and take a train from the Hydro plant all the way to Aguas Calientes. The trek will become more expensive
because of these additions (since these transports are not included in the price.) Do not worry! Using this alternative method youwill still see the scenery and will be able to finish the trek.
s there a minimum or maximum age for the Salkantay Trek?
No, everybody who is in reasonably healthy shape can do this trek, but we recommend consulting your doctor first ifyou have any medical conditions.
Why are the prices so different for this trek if I look it up online or ask around at different agencies?
Prices are based on services, middlemen, bigger groups, smaller groups, what train you come back, and whether you aretaying in tents or lodges. We are working directly with operators and the people who own restaurants and lodges on the
way so we can offer top services for a budget price. Another difference is some operators include an alternative route on
day 4 via Llactapata instead of going through Santa Teresa, resulting in other operators having higher prices.
What is the group size if I book with Loki Travel?
The budget Salkantay Trek is one guide for 12 people, two guides for 12+ people, etc. The group sizes tend to

ncrease in high season to 20 or 30 people, in which case more guides will be added (3 guides for a group of 30+).
What kind of food is served on the trek?
The typical meals are rice, vegetables, bread, milk (powder), meat, chicken, coffee, fruits. etc. Veggie options are available.
Are there bathrooms on the trek?
All campsites on the budget trek have rustic bathrooms. Lodges may be a better option for you if you areuncomfortable with limited amenities. Once you’re in Santa Teresa and Aguas Calientes you will have full bathrooms.
