Our expertise in the field of PE-Xa is the result of decades of experience. We have been producing PE-Xa pipes for more than 35 years now. From the beginnings until today, our output has topped the mark of 2.5 billion meters of PE-Xa pipes. This is a record that tells its own tale.

Flexible Uponor pe-Xa pipes

What is the difference between Uponor Pe-Xa pipes and conventional PE-X pipes? It ’s the memory and shrink-back effect of the PE-Xa material. After bending or expanding the pipe goes back to the original location.

The Uponor PE-Xa pipes are high-pressure crosslinked which reaches the highest linking factor of all crosslink-ing methods.

Therefore they are flexible and have a good abrasion resistance to tough onsite conditions. Uponor pipes withstand high pressure and temperature changes. They can be delivered with and without conduits, but the use in conduits has many advantages. In case someone drills into the pipe, the assembly time is significantly reduced when using a conduit. The pipe itself is also protected against damages, while the conduit also works as insu-lation and therefore reduces heat loss.

Special structure of the molecules for outstanding material features

During the production process of Uponor PE-Xa pipes mole cules with high density are linked together creating a three-dimensional network. Bodycote Polymer AB Sweden, an independent testing institute, has carried out pressure testing on more than 3,000 specimen for Uponor since 1973, which are still running. The condi-tions of the temperature cycling test are as follows: 15 minutes at 20 °C, then change to 95 °C water for 15 minutes and vice-versa. No problems whatsoever have occured so far. Due to the crosslinking process, the Uponor PE-Xa pipes sustain their excellent thermal and mechanical features which make it the first choice for tap water and radiator connection installations.

The outstanding material characteristics of Uponor PE-Xa pipes also have a major bearing on the connec-tion techniques used. Our simple but ingenious system lets you produce pressure-sealed, durable joints in just 25 seconds. Our innovation makes use of the shrinking back effect, which is only valid for crosslinked PE-Xa pipes. The pipe ends are fitted with a Q&E ring, ex-panded and then pushed onto a special system fitting made of metal or the advanced PPSU (polyphenylsul-fone) plastic material. The material then “remembers” the shape it had before being widened, and contracts back to its original form. This provides a long-term seal between the pipe and the fitting. The connection be-comes firm and immovable after just a few seconds at room temperature.

We are offering most modern system technology with the Uponor PPSU fitting. This fitting is made of ad-vanced polyphenylsulfone plastic material. High tem-perature and pressure resistance, high strength and suitability for its use with particularly aggressive water are the key advantages of the Uponor PPSU fitting. Nowadays we offer also PPSU fittings with male and female thread as well as PPSU manifolds with male thread. Furthermore, our new PPSU fittings with swivel nut in dimensions 16 to 25 mm for the connection to manifolds, pumps etc. are now available. In general PPSU material is also used for medical purposes to sani-tise medical appliances. For all our Uponor Quick & Easy threaded metal fittings as well as Uponor clamp fittings, special brass alloys are used.

The threaded metal fittings are made of a brass alloy CW614N. The chemical composition is according to EN (European norm) 12164:1998. Forged parts are made of brass alloy CW617N. The chemical composition is according to EN 12165:1998.

The Uponor clamp fittings for dimension 25 up to 110 mm are made of dezincification resistant brass. The modular system consists of a basic body and individual connection parts. The design of the outer sleeve allows for a good grip with even force around the pipe, while the inner sleeve with its O-ring assures a good tight seal. These features allow an easy installation.

Uponor PE-Xa pipes offer a unique set of qualities that make them ideal for use in drinking-water installa-tions. Apart from their outstanding mechanical strength performance, their main advantage lies in their high degree of temperature resist-ance, which makes PE-Xa pipes also suitable for use in hot-water applications. This is in addition to the smooth walls, which offer less resist-ance to the flowing water and thus minimises the possibility of a pres-sure drop in the system. This smooth surface prevents the formation of deposits inside the pipe.

Tee installation

The well known traditional system is suitable also for concealed instal-lation of tap water pipes. With the comprehensive range of Uponor Quick & Easy fittings, the quantity of pipes can be reduced compared to other installation methods.

manifold installation

The basic prinicple of the manifold system is to provide joint free pipe installations from the manifold to each tap or outlet in order to eleminate variations in pressure and flow. This allows for isolated pipe installations, if required, minimises joints and centralises all connec-tions in an accessible point. In addition the manifold system is well suited for the Uponor PE-Xa pipe in pipe sytem with conduits. This leads to an increased protection against water damage and meets require-ments for pipe replacement e.g. in case the pipe has been drilled into.

oxygen diffusion tight – but of course!

In order to prevent corrosion of the heating system and fittings, Uponor eval PE-Xa pipes are coated with an EVOH resin. This additional plastic layer prevents the diffusion of oxygen into the hot-water circuit. The barrier layer has been specially designed to meet the requirements of the Uponor Quick & Easy connection system. Uponor eval PE-Xa pipes are ideal to connect radiators and other components to the heating system. The Uponor product range for radiator connection includes the Uponor Quick & Easy connection system, the approved and tested Uponor pipe-in-pipe system and bending supports up to the manifolds.

Tee installation

The well known and traditional system with the wide range of Uponor Quick & Easy tees allows the instal-lation for different kinds and connections of radiators. Less pipes are needed for flexible connections.

manifold installation

The pipes are connected from the manifold to the radiator using the same pipe dimension thus reducing the number of fittings needed. This eliminates variations in pressure and flow, and guarantees together with the conduit as pipe in pipe system the exchangeability of the pipe. If you prefer the fittings not to be embedded in the screed the manifold installation presents an ideal solution.
