Welcome to July’s edition of the Brisbane Iveco Newsletter.

This will be my last message as the Dealer Principal of Brisbane Iveco and I would like to greatly thank all of the customers who have supported the Dealership along the way, I have had a lot of fun & exciting moments and in all it was a great and wonderful experience with all of you, so I thank you all sincerely.

I would like to make a special mention to specifically highlight all the staff at Brisbane Iveco, as without them my job would have been a lot more difficult. It was a real personal pleasure to work with them all and the Dealership would not be where it is today without their support, drive & motivation to succeed. It has been a privilege to work with them all and watch many of the staff members grow and develop into the leaders they are today. I look forward to staying in contact and watching them all build a strong future.

When equine enthusiasts Ben and Lee Traynor wanted a high-end horse transporter with the added space for luxury living for the whole family, they quickly identified IVECO’s Stralis ATi as the perfect platform.

The couple was spurred on by 11 and seven-year-old daughters, Elsie and Hannah, up and coming riders who regularly participate in show horse and horse hacking events. But which truck to choose?

As a farmer based in Moree, New South Wales, Ben had wide exposure to commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment and has several machines that are powered by IVECO engines.

“We operate several tractors, spraying rigs and headers that use IVECO power, they’ve always performed strongly and have been good on fuel,” Ben said.

“This previous experience lead us to consider IVECO when we were looking to replace an older Japanese truck that we’d been using to transport the horses.

“We wanted to go for a larger truck this time around that would give us the GVM we needed to comfortably carry the horses and equipment while also giving us plenty of living space.”

The Traynors eventually settled on a 4x2 Stralis ATi running a Cursor 8 engine, producing 360 horsepower and 1500 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to IVECO’s 12-speed Eurotronic Automated Manual Transmission.

For better weight distribution, the truck was also specified with a bogie axle, and with the base specifications sorted, the cab chassis was handed over to Signature Custom Floats for body fitment.

As well as space for up to five horses and associated riding equipment, the truck features a fully equipped kitchen with Caesar stone benchtops, convection oven, microwave, electric stove top and large fridge as well as a slide out dining area.

The living space is serviced by a split system air conditioner and if away from mains power, electricity comes via a remote push-start generator housed under the floor.

Sleeping accommodation includes a double bed above the cabin and bunk beds for the girls, while the Eurocargo’s sleeper cabin can accommodate a fifth person if required. The interior also includes shower and toilet facilities.

On the outside, the lower section of the body has a chequer plate finish for added protection, while slide-out storage conceals a washing machine, gas barbecue and Engel fridge.

Other additions include a polished alloy bulbar, to minimise damage from animal strikes and two cameras, one that keeps tabs of the horse section, the second, a rear roof-mounted unit that helps when reversing the 11.8 metre vehicle.

Ben said the family is extremely happy with the Stralis.

“It’s a great overall package that drives really well and is extremely quiet and comfortable, we love driving it,” he said.

“The Stralis is so stable and sits so well on the road. I like to travel at the speed limit so I go 100 kilometres up the hills, it has plenty of power and does it easily while also returning good fuel consumption.

“Lee also drives it and she reckons it’s more comfortable than her four wheel drive and just as easy to drive.

“We get away nearly every weekend and the comfort and the performance of the Stralis makes it easier to travel to events further afield that we would have previously."

“It’s a great vehicle that is providing us with a lot of quality family time. People have asked me about the Stralis and I’ve had no hesitations in referring a heap of prospective customers to Brisbane IVECO where we purchased it from.

“We’re so impressed by it.”

Last month’s racing was awesome! I won the Oakey Sprints Street challenge for the third year in a row which was awesome.

Karlie came a very close second in the Women’s challenge, by a 100’s of a second and only lost to a car with double the HP and class, awesome effort.

The sprints at Morgan Park, Karlie smashed her PB and came first in her class. I came second in mine again, only by one hundreth of a second! It's crazy the clock can be so close.

This weekend we are at Warwick Morgan park again doing the Short Circuit racing and Sprints so will update you after that

Next week we are doing the new Rocky Gold Rush Hill Climb, they are closing the Burnett Highway for us to sprint on, scary but will be good to be the pioneers of a new event.

Dreams have come true for two young men from Glenala SHS. They are Zac Skobel, Year 12 and Jordan Quirk, Year 11.

Since the building of the Glenala Trade Skills Centre in 2016, Glenala SHS has been privileged to have carved a relationship with Brisbane IVECO Rocklea. David Lowe (Dealer Principal) and Trevor Thorne (Service Manager), have been the guiding force behind this valuable partnership.

Brisbane IVECO, based at Rocklea has signed Zac and Jordan through TORGAS as School Based Apprentices starting 12th of June. Brisbane IVECO has been a strong supporter of the Glenala Trade Skills Centre since the first applications for the Centre was made. Through the partnership with Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA), Brisbane IVECO donated a truck to the Glenala Trade Skills Centre which students can work on whilst completing their Cert II in Automotive Vocational Preparations (Heavy Vehicle).

The reward for Zac and Jordan has come after both boys completed a Cert II Automotive qualification at the Glenala Trade Skills Centre. Zac was part of the first graduates from 2016 and has since completed work experiences at Haulmark Trailers and IVECO.

Jordan on the other hand completed his course in 2017 and was awarded the “BEST ALL ROUNDER AWARD” from his cohort. He also completed work experience with IVECO before securing the apprenticeship.

We wish both boys the very best for the future and look forward to seeing them represent Brisbane IVECO at apprenticeship challenges at the Brisbane Truck shows.
