GameHIGHLIGHTS
The Vikings traveled to Dowagiac for the Chieftain invite last weekend. The young Vi-king team lost their first game by a score of 5-1 to tournament host and eventual tourna-ment champion, Dowagiac. The Vikings suffered injuries to a couple of key players and dropped their second game to Cassopolis 8-0. The Vikings then rebounded to finish the day on a good note beating Lawton by a score of 10-4.
The Vikings record stands at 3-5-1. Coach Antonio Robles
Congrats to the girls team on placing 3rd at the Lakeview Invite on Saturday. They girls were led by sophomore Brisa Sanchez-Valdez who ran a time of 23:23 and placed 44th. Followed by Emily Hernandez who ran a time of 24:17, Liliana Alcauter, Sandra Barajas, Hannah Householder, and Logan Slone. On the boys side Alvaro Martinez was the only runner who got a medal. He placed 7th overall with a time of 16:54 then followed Zach Trainer, Aurelio Melgarejo, Daniel Adams. All the boys ran a PR at the Lakeview Invite. Great job to everyone.
CURRENT RECORD: 6-4-1
The Lady Vikings Varsity Volleyball Team participated in the always very competitive 13th Annual Watervliet Volleyball Tour-nament on Saturday. This tournament typically marks the last opportunity for the twelve teams to put the finishing touches on their systems prior to beginning conference play. The Bangor netters improved on last year’s performance by qualifying for bracket
play. Bangor was seeded seventh overall after splitting with Lawton, losing to Bran-dywine, and defeating Watervliet in pool play. The Lady Vikings lost to Brandywine, the eventual tournament winner, in the first round thus securing a tie for seventh place. Audrey Hay led the offense with 23 kills on the day. Along with Abby Moench, Hay also served up 10 aces. Defensively, Kaitlyn Kite collected 29 digs, and Amara Littlefield added four kill blocks.
GAME DATE: September 5, 2019River ValleyVarsity
Great job to the girls team on placing 4th at the Hartford Inv. the team was led by Brisal Sanchez-Valdez who placed 11th followed by Emily Hernandez, Sandra Barajas, Lilliana Alcauter, Hannah Householder and Logan Slone. Hannah had a really good race she had a PR by three minutes. also Brisal and Emily were the only two girls that awards. On the boys side we had three boys get medals. Alvaro Martinez was runner up with a time of 17:24 followed by Zach Trainor who got 12th and Aurelio Melgarejo got 18th placed he also got a pr. Great job to both teams.
On 9-5, the Viking soccer team traveled to Saugatuck for a non conference match. The halftime score was 2-1 in favor of the Indians. But early in the second half, the Vikings added two goals to take the lead 3-2. At the 24 minute mark, the Vikings had to finish the game with ten players due to a red card issued. The Vikings stood their ground and held on until the final horn. Holding off the Indians for the remainder of the game.
From Coach Lucas Smith: Our girls trav-eled to River Valley last night for a tri match with River Valley and Bloomingdale. The girls continued to develop their offense
and defense as they defeated Bloomingdale in straight sets but lost to River Valley. Our next game is a rematch against River Valley next Wednesday!
Thursday evening the Bangor volleyball team traveled to River Valley to face the Mustangs and the Bloomingdale Cardinals in a Tri-Meet.
The Lady Vikings got off to a very slow start following their outstanding performance against the Allegan Tigers the previous night. Fatigue was clearly evident from the
start of the contest, but the Bangor netters started to find their rhythm by the end of the first set and managed to win 2-1. Ban-gor won the night-cap against Blooming-dale 2-0. Olivia Kuiper led the Lady Vikings attack with 10 kills followed closely by Au-drey Hay’s 7 kills. The Viking’s strong serv-ing and passing game kept their opponents off guard throughout both contests.

The second meet of the 2019 season proved to be something very special for the CardinalCross Country teams. Running on a tough course and on tired legs, the varsity boys won theHartford Invite for the first time as a program. Junior, Joe Furlan, made it two wins in as manyraces, and right behind him was the “wolf pack” of Carlos Garcia (5th), David Garcia (9th), TylerStarbuck (10th), Trace Wixom (14th), and Cody Gallimore (30th), all of whom finished in the top30 and earned medals. Matt Streeter and Ethan Gumpert got in their first race of the seasonand were ready to go! Chris Taylor, Tyler Osterman, Joe Stocchiero, Malachi Cassels, andJacob Kolean all ran their fastest times of the season. Great running Cardinals! The Bloomingdale girls were also team champions at Hartford, defending their title from the2017 meet (the 2018 meet was canceled due to weather). Kallie Harrison was a race championfor the second time as well this season, while Aimee Sustaita powered her way to a second-place finish. Addison Miller (8th), Olaisa Moss (14th), Marta Douglas (16th), and Maria Tun(24th) all finished in the top 25 and earned medals. Mara Cavazos ran her first meet of the yearand is looking to make a big drop in time. Great running ladies! The middle school runners turned in good performances as well. Devin Starbuck finished in the top 10 for the middle school boys and earned a medal for his efforts. Josh Odell cut nearly two minutes off his time from his first meet. Abby Krall was a top 10 finisher in the middle school girl’s race and earned a medal. Zee Dickerson, Emma Miller, and Andrea Paz all com-peted well for the small but tough middle school girls team! Great job Cardinals!!!! Coach Alan Bobalik & Coach Tina Bertuca
The Bloomingdale Cardinals traveled to Grand Rapids Friday night to take on theNorthpointe Christian Mustangs. The Cardinals, who were battle weary and injury-depleted from the week before, fought hard, but ultimately lost to a strong Mustangssquad by a final score of 49-0. Junior, Carson Fisher took the helm of the offense at quarterback for the first time thisweek, and led the Cardinals to some inspiring drives. Momentum was hard to come by,however, as much of the Cardinals’ hard work on offense was brought back bypenalties. Leading the team in rushing was Devin Gibson, who amassed 25 yards on 8carries. Jake Stamps finished with 19 yards, while Carson Fisher finished with 18.Pierce Manning and Devin Gibson each had a tackle for a loss, and both led the teamwith 6 tackles each. Sophomore standout Austin Amos finished with 5 tackles as well. The Cardinals open their home portion of the schedule against Hartford on September13th, and against Mendon on Friday, September 20th at 7:00 p.m. We hope thecommunity can come out and show these boys their support for their hard work anddedication. Go Cardinals!
Joe Good Varsity Football Coach
Bloomingdale’s Varsity Soccer team is off to a strong start this season, with a 5-1record, currently good enough for first place in the Southwest 10 conference. Thevarsity boys and girls kicked off their season by upsetting Comstock 2-0 in the season’sopening week, before suffering a 6-2 loss to Fennville that has lit a fire and providedsome valuable fuel for their conference play.Bloomingdale had uncontested wins against Lakeside Charter Academy (9-1),Marcellus (8-0), and Eau Claire (5-0), before pulling off a 1-0 victory over Hartford athome last week in a nail-biting match-up featuring two of the top programs in theleague. Bloomingdale defended against a strong Hartford offense, and turned themaway empty-handed again and again. Bloomingdale scored the decisive goal, whensenior, Gustavo Silva found the back of the net with an incredible kick from 35 yardsout. The Cardinals’ early success has been the result of a strong team effort. Leading theCardinals on offense is Gustavo Silva, with six goals and three assists, Hector Tranquiniwith six goals and two assists, and Miguel Lopez and Drake Cross with four goalsapiece. Tony Garcia, Alex Sustaita, and Alex Arias were standouts in the back defense, and our keeper, Gabriel Perez has been stellar in goal with a total of twenty-one saves. The 2019 Bloomingdale Varsity Soccer team is a force this year and an incredibly fungroup of athletes to watch “on the pitch”. Come out and support these Cardinals as theywork toward their best season yet.
The Cardinals’ Varsity Volleyball squad traveled to Three Oaks last Thursday, to play in a tri against River Valley and Bangor. Hampered by injuries, the Cardinals’ combination of six healthy players came up short against both teams. All members of the squad contributed, but in the end were defeated by Bangor, 14-25, 16-25 and River Valley, 16-25, 12-25. Freshman setter, Quinn Kelly, played well sending balls to sophomore hitter, Allison Starbuck, who finished with smart and accurate hits. Junior libero, Aimee Sustaita, filled the holes and stepped-up for some critical digs. On Saturday, the Lady Cardinals travelled to Eau Claire for their 2019 Varsity Invita-tional. The players executed their game plan this time and played strong in almost all of their games. Pool play saw the Cardinals victorious over host Eau Claire, 25-19 & 25-20, Benton Harbor, 25-14 & 25-14, and they split with Lawrence, 25-11 & 20-25. The only team to beat Bloomingdale was New Buffalo, 14-25 & 8-25. The team earned a second seed in bracket play, and beat Lawrence solidly in two games, 25-22 & 25-19, which placed them in the championship match against New Buffalo. New Buffalo played outstanding volleyball, and went on to win, 25-13 & 25-11. Cardinal middle hitter, Caiyla Felty, put in an outstanding performance at the service line with multiple mini-runs, and fans got to witness some nice work at the net put in by senior hitter, Katrise Hudson, and sophomore Emma Allison. The teams have this week off, but you can come see the Cardinals at home on Tues-day, September 17th as they host the White Pigeon Chiefs beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thank you for your support. On August 26, 2019, the Junior Varsity Volleyball Team traveled to Allegan High School to play their first scrimmage of the season. The last couple of years these two teams have been able to come together and raise money for cancer awareness. The outcome of the game was not in our favor, but the girls still played each point with heart. Some of the stats from the game are: Jaiden Woodard had 3 assists, Sam Carlson had 1 dig, Elyssay Tarkkanen had 1 ace and 1 kill, Annaliese Tyrell had 1 kill, Ellianna Vanhorn had 1 ace, Kaya Huiz-enga had 5 aces, 1 dig and 3 kills, Kaylee Germain had1 dig, Victoria Fenton had 2 blocks, 1 ace, 1 dig, and 1 kill and Elida Hernandez had 1 dig. I cannot wait to see what the season has in store for the girls! Go Tigers! Coach Wiseley
