Flower Ministry

The flowers which grace the Holy Altar today are given to the

Glory of God by Judy Wrenn in honor of her Children.

Our Children All this month our children will be assisting in the leadership of

our worship service. As they speak before us in prayer, in

liturgy and in scripture, hear that they speak not only the words

of God but with the voice of God in our midst as well. We

thank them for their willingness to serve God’s holy church in

this manner.

Salem Talent Show

Tonight is the night. Come and join us at 6:00 in the Sanctuary

to see all the talent that Salem United Methodist Church has. We

have eight acts that want to share their talents with us. This is a

free event and there are door prizes available. We hope to see

everyone here.

Ladies’ Lunch Bunch For any ladies that just want to get together for fellowship time

over lunch, we will meet at 12:00 Monday, February 25, at

Zorba’s on St. Andrews Road.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner The final youth fundraiser for the Foreign Mission Trip will be

Tuesday, March 5. We will be having our annual Pancake

Dinner in the Fellowship Hall, and the meal cost is donation

only. We hope you will join us this night for a great meal.

Ash Wednesday Service Wednesday, March 6, at 7:00 we will gather for an Ash

Wednesday Service including the imposition of Ashes. This

service is our traditional beginning of the Lenten Season of

repentance.

Adult Lenten Focused Study There will be an adult Lenten focused study presented on

Sunday evenings beginning Sunday, March 10th, at 5:00. The

study will begin with an overview of the history of Lent and

Lenten practices along with an introduction to the study book

“He Chose the Nails: What God did to Win Your Heart” by Max

Lucado. The Study Guides will be available in the church

office and the first night of the study. Dolly Kent, Gary

Phillips and Paul Perry will lead the discussion times. The

sessions will conclude on Sunday, April 14th.

Murder Mystery Dinner Do you want a fun night out with a great meal? Join us on

Saturday, March 16 as the youth conduct one of their final two

fundraisers for Ecuador. We will be hosting a Murder Mystery

Dinner. Join for a great meal and see if you are able to solve the

mystery. This will be a ticketed event at $25 a ticket. Childcare

will be offered on this night as well. Youth will begin selling

tickets to this event on Sunday, February 17, in the Welcome

Center.

OASIS News Join us for our Scavenger Hunt and potluck luncheon on

Tuesday, March 19 at 11:30 in the fellowship hall. We

promise you’ll not only have fun learning more about your

church and worship but also about your friends! Be sure to

bring your favorite vegetable, fruit, meat, salad or dessert to

share so we’ll have lots of goodies to enjoy. Please call the

church office with your RSVP and the item you will be bringing.

We look forward to our time together and hearing from you!

Sharing God’s Love

Our current needs are jelly, tea bags, cold cereal, stew, chili,

children's clothes-all sizes. Boxes are located in each Sunday

School Room and a cart is in the hallway next to the Fellowship

Hall entrance. 149 items were carried to SGL on Feb. 11th

. A special thank you to all the Sunday School Classes and

anyone else that donated to the SGL cart.

Spring Yard Sale Can you believe it, our Spring Yard Sale is just around the

corner. It will be Saturday, March 30. We will be accepting

donations until Wednesday, March 27.

Sharing God's Love is in need of a volunteer on Monday's to

receive and fold clothing (9:00am - 12:00pm). Please call us at

803-732-3188 if you can help. Also, we would appreciate any

funds you can donate to "Keep the Lights On" for those in need.

Many thanks for all you do to help Sharing God's Love assist

our community with their needs. God bless each of you.

Volunteer Opportunities

Salem's Church Hostess Committee is in need of volunteers to

help out with Covered Dish meals. Duties would include:

Help setting up Fellowship Hall for any Covered Dish

meal such as Homecoming, Fall Harvest Festival, and

Quarterly Covered Dish Fellowship Luncheons

During Worship Service, help arrange Buffet tables with

covered dishes provided by the congregation

Help clean-up Fellowship Hall and Kitchen after the

meal

Cavin Circle

We are changing our location for the month of March only. We

will be going up to Generation of Chapin, Bar Room.

Those members who want to carpool can meet at the church at

10:30.

UMW Mission Focus

Salem’s UMW mission focus for the month of February/March

is the Wallace Family Life Center in Bennettsville, SC. The

center provides educational and religious programs to enrich the

lives within the community. There is currently a need for adult

Bibles. If you have any gently used Bibles you can donate, we

would love to pass these along so that others can benefit. The

center is also attempting to start a reading program for children

and are accepting donations of “gently used” or new

books. Books appropriate for kindergarten through 7th

grade are

being requested. If you have questions, contact Beverly

Bouknight, Linda Gibbons or ladies of UMW.

There will be a donation box appropriately labeled in the

Welcome Center and the Narthex beginning this Sunday through

the end of March. The UMW would like to thank you in advance

for any contributions you can make towards this project and

others throughout the year.
