Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday that vendors had supported the company by entering some of the best foals born last year.

“We have got a quality line up of weanlings here across all ends of the market and the vibe since we opened inspections on Monday has been very positive and very busy,” Bowditch said.

“Vendors are taking this sale very seriously now. They are bringing their whole foal crop and bringing some of the best weanlings have that they are willing to offer.

“We also have vendors selling everything that they have on farm and with that brings confidence in the market.

“It all bodes well leading into the sale.”

Coolmore Stud has a strong hand with weanlings by champion stallion Fastnet Rock and Group One-producing sires Pierro (Lonhro) and So You Think (High Chaparral) on offer.

Among them is a Fastnet Rock colt who is the second foal

out of New Zealand Group One winner Diademe (Savabeel), whose first foal, also a colt by Fastnet Rock, sold for NZ$1,000,000 to Mark Pilkington and Lindsay Park Racing at the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale earlier this year.

The colt, whose dam is a sister to this season’s New Zealand 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Embellish, is catalogued as Lot 138. Diademe herself will be offered at next week’s Magic Millions Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale as Lot 1007 in foal to Vancouver.

Coolmore Australia stud manager Jim Carey yesterday spoke of his optimism that the sale will be strong.

“Full credit to Magic Millions as there is a great buzz around the complex and if our inspections are anything to go by, there seem to be a lot of people here,” Carey told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“We have come here with a very strong draft and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“On the back of what was generally a very strong yearling sale season, it’s not unreasonable to expect a good sale here, with the demand for the best foals likely to be very strong indeed.”

Coolmore is also showcasing the first foals by Vancouver, Pride Of Dubai and shuttler No Nay Never (Scat Daddy), who has sired five first crop European-bred two-year-old winners this year, including the Listed scorer Servalan.

“It is particularly exciting to be able to offer first foals by two young stallions with impeccable credentials in Pride Of Dubai and Vancouver,” Carey said.

“These were colts that were pursued by pretty much every major commercial stud farm in Australia when their respective racing careers ended, so we are very lucky to have them both and their first progeny seem to be earning rave reviews across the board.”

<< Continued from page 2 Vancouver was well supported with a high-class book of mares in his first season at stud in 2016 and Coolmore will be offering a filly half-sister to four-time Group One winner Preferment (Zabeel) and Group Three winner Rezoned (Zabeel).

Out of the juvenile winner Better Alternative, the filly is the seventh foal out the daughter of Flying Spur (Danehill) and is catalogued as Lot 66.

“Obviously what will get offered at this sale is only a very small sample of what they can produce, but the likes of the Better Alternative filly from our draft seems to be regarded amongst the very best foals in the whole sale, so that is a great starting point.” he said.

Fellow Coolmore-based sire Pierro (Lonhro), who was purchased at this sale as a foal by David Kobritz for $115,000 and later sold for $230,000 as a yearling, has 11 weanlings catalogued.

With his oldest progeny three-year-olds, he is already the sire of eight stakes winners including Kennedy Oaks (registered as VRC Oaks) (Gr 1, 2500m) winner Pinot and Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Levendi.

Burnewang North, meanwhile, will offer its entire draft of foals born in 2017 at the Magic Millions and Inglis Great Southern Weanling sales, with 20 lots catalogued on the Gold Coast including three by Pierro.

They include Lot 248 who is the fourth foal out of the winning mare Kapcher (Danzero), herself a sister to Group Three-winning stallion Kaphero. The colt is also from the same family as stakes winners Star Of Giselle (Reset) and Solicit (Street Cry).

“He is a lovely strong muscular colt and he really presents himself well,” Burnewang North business manager Tanya Edwards told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“He is a lovely dark colour and has everything going for him.”Edwards said the decision to send all the farm’s foals to the market as

weanlings had so far been well received.“The end users like trainers are taking advantage of the weanling

market now rather than paying ‘overs’ in the yearling market,” Edwards said.

“Our horses have been very busy walking their little hooves off and we couldn’t be happier with the way it is going to date and we will see once they are in the ring tomorrow.”

High hopes as weanling session kicks off Magic Millions National Sale

<< Continued from page 4 David Toole of Kambula Stud is also offering his complete draft of weanlings for the fourth year in succession and among them are two by Victoria’s leading stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesia).

Catalogued as Lot 384, the Kambula Stud-consigned Written Tycoon colt is the second living foal out of the SAJC Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1050m) winner Prettyhappyaboutit (Magnus), herself a half-sister to the Listed winner and Group One placegetter Born To Rock (Fastnet Rock).

“He is a lovely colt and inspections have been extremely strong on him. We just hope that he is going to sell well because we have come a long way (from South Australia) and they are all here for sale,” Toole told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“It does not hurt either having the Blue Diamond winner (by Written Tycoon) this year and the stallion is going from strength to strength as he is getting older.”

Toole said his commitment to the weanling market in recent years was starting to pay off with repeat business.

“The pleasing thing for me, today, is that we are getting lots of people coming back who have bought from us. They are happy with what they

have bought and hopefully they are going to try and buy again,” he said.

“I have heard that this year it is the best crop of weanlings that have ever been on the complex, which is good, because what it means to me is that it is going to bring more buyers in and be better for us.

“The amazing thing is, everyone wants to buy a weanling. From the farrier at the horse stud, to the workers, to the vet, the manager and the owner of the horse stud.”

Kambula Stud also offers a Nicconi (Bianconi) half-sister to the Chris Waller-trained stakes-placed juvenile Pembroke Castle (I Am Invincible), who won over 1400 metres at Warwick Farm last week. She is catalogued as Lot 87.

Day one will start at 10am today.

Cummings confident of Impending win

Last year’s Stradbroke Handicap (Gr 1, 1350m) winner Impending is poised to secure another valuable Group One win in the Kingsford-Smith Cup, according to trainer James Cummings. “He arrives at this race third-up and in prime condition," Cummings said. "He's having a terrific campaign and I couldn't be happier with the way he's trained on since the Doomben 10,000. This is going to be an exciting moment for him. He's really set up for a big run this time.

He galloped on the course proper at Doomben on Tuesday morning and he let down beautifully in his work and I think he really enjoyed the speed he was able to gallop at on the grass.”

Spieth scratchedSpieth (Thorn Park), who is soon to be retired to Aquis Farm, will not take his chance in the Kingsford-Smith Cup. The five-year-old has battled a foot issue and was scratched yesterday, with connections hoping he can recover in time to contest the Stradbroke Handicap on 9 June at Doomben.

16 in the Queensland OaksA total of 16 fillies look set to line up in the Queensland Oaks (Gr 1, 2200m), with the field headed by the Chris Waller-trained Youngstar (High Chaparral), who comes into the race off the back of a fine last-start victory in The Roses (Gr 2, 2000m). She will be joined in the race by stablemates Savacool (Savabeel) (barrier 12), Another Dollar (Ocean Park) (2), Impulsive (So

You Think) (6) and Miss Shanti (Pierro) (1). The Ciaron Maher-trained Aloisia (Azamour), who has been given a clean bill of health following an injury scare earlier in the week, has drawn barrier seven in the $500,000 race.

Perry double-handed in the Fred BestPaul Perry will be doubly represented in Saturday’s Fred Best Classic (Gr 3, 1350m) at Doomben with the trainer set to saddle Group Three winner Perast (Snitzel) and Group One winner The Mission (Choisir). Last-start Queensland Day Stakes (Listed, 1350m) winner Perast will start in barrier four, while The Mission, who will join the Aquis Farm roster at the conclusion of his racing career, will line up in barrier 12 with Craig Williams set to take the ride. Other notable entries include, last-start Hawkesbury Guineas (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Sambro (Fastnet Rock) (3) and Marsupial (Street Cry) (7), who finished second to Perast in the Queensland Day Plate.

Browne on Time LordTime Lord (Guillotine) will be ridden by Damian Browne in the Grand Prix Stakes (Gr 3, 2200m) at Doomben on Saturday, taking over from Michael Cahill, who rode him to victory at the Sunshine Coast on 16 May. “He was meant to ride him the other day, but due to the handicap conditions as a three-year-old the horse was on the minimum and he couldn’t do the weight,” trainer Richard Collett said. “Michael Cahill rode him and they share the same manager, but Damian was always our preferred rider.” Time Lord will face 15 rivals on Saturday and he will line up in barrier two. Collett also said the gelding will likely be aimed at the Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2200m) on 9 June.

Plucky Girl has first stakes start Glenlogan Park Progressive mare Plucky Girl (Pluck) will have her first start at stakes level in Saturday’s Glenlogan Park Stakes (Gr 3, 1350m) at Doomben. The Toby Edmonds-trained mare has won her last four starts and she will attempt to add a stakes race to her CV from barrier eight with Jeff Lloyd booked to take the ride. The mare will clash with 15 rivals, including three from Chris Waller’s stable, headed by Group One winners Foxplay (Foxwedge) and Shillelagh (Savabeel) and they will be joined by Invincibella (I Am Invincible).

Zousain on the hunt for second stakes winZousain, who became the second stakes winner for Widden Stud’s first season sire Zoustar (Northern Meteor) when he won the Champagne Classic (Gr 2, 1200m) at Doomben at his last start, will be on the hunt for a second stakes win when he lines up in the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 2, 1350m). The Chris Waller-trained colt will face 13 rivals, including unbeaten colt Graff (Star Witness) and two-time winner Plumaro (Spirit Of Boom).

Full field for Lord Mayor’s CupA full field of 15 have accepted for the BRC Lord Mayor’s Cup (Gr 3, 1630m) at Doomben on Saturday, with Godolphin trainer James Cummings set to saddle a trio of runners in the $125,000 race, headed by Group One winner It’s Somewhat (Dynaformer). The 2017 Doncaster Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner, who has drawn barrier two, will be joined by stablemates Duca Valentinois (Holy Roman Emperor) (1) and Spectroscope (Medaglia d’Oro) (7). Meanwhile, Tony Gollan has accepted with last start Members' Handicap (Listed, 1600m) winner Sheiswhatsheis (Bernardini).

Gallic Chieftain aiming for hat-trickLast-start Warrnambool Cup (Listed, 2350m) winner Gallic Chieftain (Tamayuz) has been accepted for the Premier’s Cup (Gr 3, 2200m) at Doomben on Saturday. The Darren Weir-trained OTI-owned five-year-old entire has drawn barrier 14 for Mark Zahra. Other notable acceptances include last start Chairman's Handicap (Gr 3, 2000m) winner Anton En Avant (Dubawi) and Sedanzer (Sebring), who will be looking to follow up her victory in the Scone Cup (Listed, 1600m) on 11 May. Bott expects big performance from EcuadorCo-trainer Adrian Bott says he expects a big show from Ecuador (High Chaparral) when he attempts to regain his W J McKell Cup (Listed, 2400m) crown at Randwick on Saturday. The eight-year-old gelding won the race in 2016 and he will be attempting to snap a run of frustrating second place finishes, including on his last start in the ATC Lord Mayor's Cup (Listed, 2000m) at Rosehill on 5 May. "Although he's not quite a Group One or Group Two winner he's very highly rated because he's had some very good performance in weight-for-age races,” said Bott. "He's honest, he's racing consistently and I'm sure his turn will come."

All Too Huiying on trial for Derby berthThree-year-old All Too Huiying (All Too Hard) will attempt to secure a Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) start when he runs over 2200 metres at Randwick on Saturday. The Gary Moore-trained stakes winner showed improvement after a let-up when third over 1500 metres on May 5 at Rosehill, his first start since finishing unplaced in the Canberra Guineas (Listed, 1400m) in March. Moore believes the colt, who will be ridden by

Jean Van Overmeire on Saturday, would be suited by the longer distance at Randwick. “This is the lead-up race to the Derby, he’s improved since his last run and he’s back to his opportune distance,” Moore said.

Winning debut for PedicelA strong lead-up barrier trial performance from two-year-old Pedicel (Redoute’s Choice) has been credited for helping the filly win her first start at Canterbury yesterday. The Coolmore-owned, Lindsay Park-trained filly won the All Too Hard@Vinery Handicap (1100m) by half a neck over Reginae (All Too Hard), with a half length back to Tell Me (Choisir) in third place. Lindsay Park stable representative Ryan Roberts said a strong hit out in a Rosehill barrier trial under race day jockey James McDonald was pivotal to her success. “We were obviously worried about the 1100 (metres) first up, she’s going to get over ground and be a better three-year-old,” Roberts said. Pedicel was purchased for $360,000 at last year’s Inglis Australian Easter Sale by Tom Magnier from the draft of Arrowfield Stud.

Avdulla ride queried by stewardsRacing NSW stewards have opened an investigation into Brenton Avdulla's ride aboard King Hewitt (Star Witness) at Canterbury yesterday. Deputy chief steward Philip Dingwall expressed concern over Avdulla's decision to allow the horse to settle at the rear of the field and queried his lack of aggression over the concluding stages, with King Hewitt ultimately finishing a well-beaten fourth. "Is that Brenton Avdulla at his best testing a horse out the way we've come to expect?" Dingwall asked. The inquiry has been adjourned.

Anjana bolts in at Ballarat Promising two-year-old filly Anjana (Sepoy) has taken her unbeaten record to two after a dominant six-length victory at Ballarat yesterday for trainer Darren Weir. One of four winners for the trainer yesterday, Anjana backed up her Wangaratta maiden victory on May 7 with yesterday’s decisive win, leaving connections to consider loftier goals. "It's always nice to have a filly that can put two wins in a row together and it looks like she's got above-average ability," the filly’s syndicator Steve Trevallier of Roll The Dice Racing told Racing.com. "When she first came in she was more of a speedy filly that wanted to get along a little bit but he (Weir) took his time with her and in a lot of her trials she's been snagged in behind them. It really changed her manners up."

Lloyd closes in on 100 winsPremier Brisbane jockey Jeff Lloyd moved within a win of recording 100 Queensland metropolitan victories for the second season in a row with a Gold Coast treble yesterday. Lloyd won on Captivator (Hinchinbrook), Mystic Moon (Magnus), and The Amateur (Teofilo) to take him to 99 Queensland metropolitan wins and 135 on all tracks this season. He set a Queensland metropolitan record when he recorded 137 wins last season, smashing Chris Munce’s then record of 102. Lloyd has a third-straight metropolitan premiership in his keeping and has ridden 336 city winners since returning from a health-enforced break in 2014.

Oscietra retiredOscietra (Exceed And Excel), who is the first foal out of champion unbeaten mare Black Caviar (Bel Esprit), has been retired to stud. "She's obviously extremely valuable as a broodmare and she's retired structurally sound, but she was still feeling her knees and the ownership group believe she's more valuable at stud now, as a two-time winner from five starts,” co-trainer Ben Hayes told Racing.com. Black Caviar’s second foal, two-year-old Prince Of Caviar (Sebring), is set to race for the first time at Sandown Lakeside on Saturday and she also has a yearling filly by Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) and a weanling filly by More Than Ready (Southern Halo). Black Caviar is in foal to I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).

Currie to front stewards againBen Currie has been directed to appear at a reconvened stewards inquiry into activities at his stable. Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) officials made allegations about activities at Currie's stables on the morning of the Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba on 7 April and the trainer has been directed to appear at the inquiry on Monday. No charges have been laid against Currie who has previously given evidence to stewards and handed over his phone and bank records. Four people have either been suspended or disqualified as a result of the inquiry. Currie's father Mark Currie, a licensed trainer and foreman for his son, was on Monday found guilty of 16 charges involving race day treatments and improper practice and was disqualified for two years.

Wiggins hopes to be passed fitRyan Wiggins is confident he will be cleared to ride on Friday after being injured in a fall yesterday. Wiggins was on a two-year-old making its way onto the track at the Sunshine Coast trials when it unexpectedly reared. "I was tossed off the back pretty high up and landed on my head on the cement," Wiggins said. He was taken to hospital where he had about five hours of tests. "The scans came back fine and I haven't had a headache. It was lucky I was wearing a helmet." Wiggins said he would seek a clearance from his doctor and hoped to be able to ride at Ipswich on Friday.

Caserta banned for four monthsJockey Chris Caserta has been suspended for four months after being found guilty of two banned substance charges. In delivering the sentence, acting chief steward Rob Montgomery told Caserta: "You can't choose your family, but you can choose your friends. You are a good, young rider on the way up, but you don't get many chances in this game so I hope this is a lesson learned."

Hill dischargedJockey Jack Hill was discharged from the Alfred Hospital yesterday, after undergoing surgery on Tuesday. Hill will have to wear a neck brace for three weeks after suffering a fractured jaw and fractured C1 vertebrae in an horrific fall at Wodonga on Saturday. While, he did not require surgery on his jaw, had to have a procedure to address lacerations to his face.

Laming chargedCranbourne trainer Richard Laming has been charged by Racing Victoria stewards after allegedly illegally treating a horse on race day earlier this year. Laming has been charged with treating Patient (Commands) with the antibiotic Accent prior to a race at Sandown Lakeside on February 7. The horse was scratched by order of stewards prior to race and a date for the hearing is yet to be set.

Baker and Forsman duo in peak conditionOle Ole (Makfi) and Peaceful (Savabeel) will give champion trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman a strong hand in Saturday’s Auckland Futurity Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Pukekohe, although track conditions are more of a concern for one of their representatives. “It’s going to be very heavy and I don’t know about Peaceful handling it, but we’ll take our chances,” Baker said. Peaceful is coming off a runner-up finish in the

Champagne Stakes (Listed, 1200m) on slow ground at Riccarton while Ole Ole was second in heavy going at Pukekohe two runs back in the Champagne Stakes (Listed, 1600m).

Bonneval on the comeback trialMultiple Group One winner Bonneval (Makfi) is being prepared to return to Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman’s Cambridge base after being sidelined earlier this year with a suspensory ligament issue. The winner of the Underwood Stakes (Gr 1, 1800m) at Caulfield in the spring off the back of a first-up success in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Moonee Valley, Bonneval subsequently spelled and was being prepared for the Haunui Farm WFA Classic (Gr 1, 1600m) before she picked up the injury. “She’s looking good and she’ll be back in the stable next week, along with Jon Snow and we are hopefully looking toward the Melbourne spring with them again,” said Baker.

Tendon injury forces Chocante to be spelledStephen Marsh has revealed that Group Two winner Chocante (Shocking) has gone for injury-forced break. “He bowed a tendon in Brisbane, unfortunately, and he’s back here now spelling,” Marsh said. The injury came to light after Chocante had been unplaced in theTails Stakes (Listed, 1600m) at Doomben last month when resuming. “It leaves a hole losing two of your top-rated horses – Thee Auld Floozie has retired and now Chocante has gone amiss.”

Gunnison scores first Hong Kong successLast year's Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Gunnison (Not A Single Doubt) posted his first victory in Hong Kong, winning last night's France Galop Cup (1200m) at Happy Valley. The John Size-trained gelding got the better of fellow Australian-bred Fortune Booth (More Than Ready) by a nose to complete a double on the night for Joao Moreira, who took the opener with Jolly Amber (Sepoy). Click here for last night's results and replays from Happy Valley.

Berry On Pakistan Star It has been a trying season for jockey Tommy Berry, but the Australian rider is confident that he can salvage something from the term when he partners Pakistan Star (Shamardal) in the Champions and Chater Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) at Sha Tin on Sunday. Berry relocated to Hong Kong at the start of the season as stable rider to trainer John Moore but has endured a lean season in which he has recorded just 13 winners. The partnership with Moore came to an end in late March, and Berry admits that

his confidence took a hit. “It’s been more down than up, to be fair,” said Berry. "To get a ride like this, though, it obviously brings the confidence right back up, and to win on Pakistan Star would make my season. It would make anyone’s season but for me, it would mean a lot for sure.”

Ocean Emperor ready for Kranji testMatamata trainer Gary Hennessy will be looking to add further international success to his CV when he lines up last-start Group Two winner Ocean Emperor (Zabeel) in the Kranji Mile (SGP-Gr 1, 1600m) in Singapore on Saturday. Hennessy campaigned Waikato Stud resident stallion and multiple Group One winner Ocean Park (Thorn Park) in both Australia and Dubai five years ago and said his experience in Singapore to date has been comparable. “It is very similar, it is like deja-vu really,” said Hennessy. “Both horses are very similar in nature and both being colts of course. They have lovely facilities over here, a nice StrathAyr track and a Polytrack too to work on. He’s just been using the 1000 metre straight Polytrack and there is an inside one as well which is about 1500 metre around.”

41 for KodiacEuro Nightmare (4 f ex Kilakey by Key Of Luck) became the 41st stakes winner for his sire Kodiac (Danehill) when winning yesterday's Rothesay Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) at Ayr. The four-year-old put in a determined performance to notch a valuable black type success, defeating Snowy Winter (Elusive Quality) by a length and a quarter. Kodiac is standing at Ireland's Tally-Ho Stud for a fee of €50,000.

Craven sale-topper makes impressive winning debutLegends Of War (Scat Daddy), who topped last month's Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale when selling to bloodstock agent Steven Hillen for 900,000gns, advertised his Royal Ascot credentials with a fine victory in a six furlong novice stakes at Yarmouth yesterday. Trained by John Gosden and carrying the Qatar Racing colours, the colt made smooth progress throughout what looked a high class contest before clearing away to win by four lengths. The Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at next month's Royal meeting now looks a likely target.

Inglewood Stud has announced that Group Two winner War Decree (War Front) will stand at the farm in 2018 while their previous resident Zacinto (Dansili) will relocate to Valachi Downs.

Trained in Ireland by Aidan O’Brien, War Decree has won three of his 11 starts including the Vintage Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Goodwood as a two-year-old. He added the Diamond Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) the following season and finished fourth in the Huxley Stakes (Gr 2, 1m2f) at Chester earlier this month.

Inglewood Stud owner Gus Wigley is excited by the acquisition of War Decree, who proved himself to be among the best two-year-olds in Europe with his dominant Vintage Stakes victory.

In winning the race he beat subsequent multiple Group One winner Thunder Snow (Helmet) and won the race in the second fastest time in its long history. War Decree, who was also a decisive winner on debut, was a close second in the Superlative Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Newmarket at his only other start as a juvenile.

War Decree’s sire War Front (Danzig) has sired 25 stakes winners in Europe including six Group One winners and a champion two-year-old for the past three seasons.

On his female side, War Decree is equally well represented, his dam being a daughter of the breed shaping stallion Street Cry (Machiavellian) and the multiple Grade One-winning mare Ticker Tape (Royal Applause).

“We think that profile is very similar to that of our foundation sire

Zacinto, in that he was a Group Two winner that connections thought of as a genuine Group One horse, while his sire is world leading and his sire-producing female family has the thickest blue-blood,” Wigley said.

“I inspected War Decree in Ireland last week with Valachi’s Jonathan Scully. He’s just a smashing big horse with so much quality about him. He’s got just about the best walk I’ve seen on a horse and I think New Zealand breeders will love him.”

War Decree will stand his first season at NZ$6,500 (plus GST).Zacinto meanwhile, a rising star of the New Zealand stallion ranks, will

relocate to Valachi Downs in 2018 after the operation’s Kevin Hickman increased his stake in the sire and secured the Southern Hemisphere standing rights.

Zacinto has made a good start to his stallion career, siring Group One winner Ugo Foscolo and four other stakes winners.

They include recent juvenile stakes winners, the Colin Little-trained Anzac Day Stakes (Listed, 1400m) winner Vassilator and Riccarton winner Listed winner Secret Allure.

Valachi Downs’ general manager Jonathan Scully said the recent winning streak by the progeny of Zacinto had only enhanced the stallion’s appeal with New Zealand’s leading commercial breeders.

Zacinto joins Savile Row (Makfi) as foundation stallions for Valachi Downs.

“We have bred over 40 mares to Zacinto since he first retired to stud, so we certainly have an idea of the type of quality stock he leaves and the exceptional record he has started to amass at stud,” Scully said.

“It’s a big move for Valachi to enter the stallion game. But in Zacinto and Savile Row we have two stallions that will get the venture off to a flyer.”

Zacinto has stood since 2012 at Inglewood Stud, who remains a partner in the stallion along with Windsor Park Stud and the son of Dansili (Danehill) will stand for a fee of NZ$15,000 (plus GST) this year.

Wigley said: “Zacinto has been such an integral part of the rejuvenation of the stud and he’s been such a great sire for the South Island, but we feel it’s the right time to open him up to a bigger pool of breeders.”

The Anthony Freedman-trained Santa Ana Lane’s (Lope De Vega) [120] victory in Saturday’s The Goodwood (Gr 1, 1200m) at

Morphettville resulted in the gelding achieving the third highest rating in the race in the past 17 years, writes Ken Warren and Dean Croker.

Santa Ana Lane, carrying 58.5 kilograms, returned a Timeform rating of 120 and only two other Goodwood winners - Black Caviar (Bel Esprit) [127] in 2012 and Black Heart Bart (Blackfriars) [123] in 2016 have rated higher in that period.

It also saw Santa Ana Lane take a new Timeform career peak, his 120-rated win being five pounds superior to his previous best of 115 taken in winning the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield last year, his first Group One victory.

Ridden quietly as usual practise, jockey Ben Melham has Santa Ana Lane back in 16th place in the large 20-horse field before weaving a path in the straight to score an impressive late-closing victory by a length and quarter.

The Robbie Laing-trained mare Missrock (Fastnet Rock) [102] fought on well for second with the three-year-old filly I’ll Have A Bit (Smart Missile) [107] making good late ground to take third, a short neck further back.

Missrock was runner up for the second year in a row but her 102 was six pounds below last year’s 108 figure when second to Vega Magic (Lope De Vega) while I’ll Have A Bit rated in triple figures the third time with 107 being one pound higher than her previous best.

Vega Magic started favourite in his bid for back-to-back Goodwood wins but the talented Lindsay Park-trained sprinter weakened for eighth after a difficult trip, racing wide without cover on a strong tempo.

Having his first start this preparation and carrying top weight of 59 kilograms, Vega Magic returned a rating on 106 – 20 pounds below his 126 Timeform peak taken in winning last year’s Memsie Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield.

The other Group One feature on Saturday was the Doomben Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) which was taken out by Comin’ Through (Fastnet Rock) [121] who staged a good effort in overcoming the outside barrier to score.

He finished well from back in seventh place to defeat his Chris Waller-trained stablemate Egg Tart (Sebring) [116] by a short neck with the Japanese-bred Ambitious (Deep Impact) [118] just over a length further back in third.

Comin’ Through returned a Timeform figure of 121, equal to his previous best taken when fifth in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) behind Winx (Street Cry) [134] at Randwick on 14 April.

The four-year-old gelding ran two pounds above last year’s Doomben Cup winner Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense) [119] and slightly below the previous two winners, Our Ivanhowe (Soldier Hollow) [123] and Pornichet (Vespone) [123].

Egg Tart, a dual Oaks-winning filly last season, was good in second, running to a new career peak Timeform figure of 116, which was six pounds above her prior best rating.

Earlier in the programme, the Peter and Paul Snowed-trained two-year-old filly Eawase (Sebring) [104+] showed her potential in taking

out the Bill Carter Stakes (Listed, 1200m) in impressive fashion.

Having only her fourth race start, jockey Mark Zahra eased Eawase from a wide barrier before running on strongly from back in 11th place to score by a length and half from Granny Red Shoes (Not A Single Doubt) [99] with Sizzling Belle (Sizzling) [98] a long head way third.

Saturday’s victory followed Eawase’s good first up 96-rated win in a two-year-old fillies’ maiden (1200m) at Randwick, that win returning her a new career 104+ career peak Timeform figure.

The daughter of Sebring (More Than Ready) measures up well to recent winners of the Bill Carter Stakes being the equal highest rated winner of the race since 2010.

Eawase ran six pounds above 2017 winner Cellargirl (More Than Ready) [98] and equalled the rating of the 2016 winner My Country (Poet’s Voice) [104].

Peter Snowden indicated Eawase will probably now progress to the J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Doomben on 9 June, where the last filly to win that Group One juvenile feature was Linky Dink (Keeper) [107] in 2009.

Then followed: Kentford (AUS), Cosimo (AUS), Calipari (AUS), Salsa Man (AUS), God Of Thunder (AUS) & Win ‘N’ Grin (AUS), last.

Analysis: Chris Waller-trained colt Beidi staged a promising effort in winning here on debut. He began well from his inside barrier (1) and settled nicely in third place, on the rails, tracking a good tempo. He moved up to challenge at the 200m, hit the front at the 100m and then went on to score comfortably. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt Munich raced outside the leader (Calipari), got to the front on turning for home and then fought back well for second after working most of the way, his second such placing in four starts to date.

Analysis: Lindsay Park-trained filly Pedicel created a good impression, winning on debut. She was eased from barrier nine and settled back in sixth place and but under riding due to the quick tempo before making a move nearing the home turn. She then responded well, hit the front at the 100m and fought well for a good win. Kris Lees-trained filly Reginae raced back in fourth place, one off the rails, improved on straightening, challenged at the 100m and then battled on nicely for second in a nice effort on debut. Team Hawkes-trained filly Tell Me went back from her wide barrier (10) and raced in last place in the 11-horse field before making a wide move approaching the home turn. She then kept running on in good style for third in a good performance, resuming here at her second race start. She is a filly to watch.

VERDICT The progressive pair WEEKENDER and Mount Moriah lockhorns in a decent renewal which also features Chester Cup

winner Magic Circle and the grand servant Sheikhzayedroad. Weekendertreated Northumberland Plate winner Higher Power with disdain at Chelmsford on hiscomeback and looks a promising stayer. Mount Moriah has to be respected, especially if the ground eases. Magic Circle is potentially Group class judged on hisChester performance, while Sheikhzayedroad has stacks of form at this sort oflevel.[Steve Boow]
