Trail – Mountain Bike ß Outdoor dirt Mountain Bike (non-motorized) Note: I was the one that mention Dirt Bike but I was thinking Mountain Bike. Scratch motorized dirt bike. http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/1324/files/how_much_will_that_trail_cost_fri2007.pdf http://www.singletracks.com/blog/mtb-trails/the-science-and-math-behind-mountain-bike-trails/ To give you an idea of the difficulty involved, typical construction costs for bike trails are in the neighborhood of $3-5 per foot (that’s about $15 – 25K per mile) but a foundation jacks that up to $10-15 per foot (as much as $80K per mile)! Volley Ball

Best  Answer:    A  sand  volleyball  court  will  cost  a  lot  of  money.  You  need  to  dig  out  the  area  to  make  it  even,  put  gravel

down  then  a  few  feet  of  sand.  You  would  also  need  to  set  the  poles  in  the  ground  with  being  anchored  down.  I  don't  think  sandbags  would  be  a  good  idea.  You  need  at  least  a  foot,  two  is  ideal,  of  sand  throughout  the  court.  You  probably  want  sand  that  is  better  than  the  sandbags  also.

Here  are  some  websites  that  can  help  you  out.  The  second  website  says  to  expect  to  pay  $6,000-‐$10,000  to  make  the  court.    http://www.volleyball.com/build_a_court

Pickle Ball http://www.pickleballcentral.com/Pickleball_Court_Construction_Guide_s/188.htm

Cost Considerations Costs of pickleball court construction vary widely, depending on how elaborate your vision is. On the low end, to get started with a simple home set, i.e. a portable net, 4-paddles, balls, and a roll of court tape, you’ll be looking at roughly $200-$400. On the high end, you could work off of the example set by the pickleball club of Bend, OR, which recently raised close to $300,000 for a new 8-court complex complete with lighting for evening play and stadium seating for tournaments. However, it’s in between the $300 starter set and the $300,000 multi-court community complex, is where most folks will fall. Here’s a rough cost breakdown: • Net/Court Tape - $300 • Court Resurfacing - $3,500 - $5,000 • New Court Construction • Basic ($10,000 - $15,000) • Basic plus lighting and fencing - $20,000 - $35,000 • 8-Court Community Complex with fencing but no lighting - $110,000 - $150,000) • 8-Court Community Complex with fencing, lighting, and stadium seating - $300,000 and up. Whatever your budget though, pickleball is an easy sport to get into, and an even easier sport to love.

T-ball Field Three baseball fields across the street at the High School and Ordway Elementary. Looks like the cost would vary substantially depending what kind of field you play on. An open grass field would be relatively low cost (under $1000). Building a regulation baseball field could get very expensive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tee-ball

A tee-ball player swings at a ball resting on the tee. Basket Ball Court – outdoor Four outdoor basketball courts at High School just across the street. Tennis Court Six tennis courts across the street at the High School. Bocce Ball Court $5,000-$10,000 to build plus monthly maintenance. Operational costs are forever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vDKF8oicV8 $1,200,000 Palm Springs bocce courts.

Bocce courts are expensive to build and maintain. Petanque employs natural low-cost, maintenance-free packed-dirt and crushed rock terrains. I take a few quick minutes to rake the terrain every time I throw, but most players rarely perform any maintenance. Disc Golf Course http://www.pdga.com/faq/course-development/estimated-course-cost What’s the approximate cost to build a course? We’ll assume the land is available already, but that’s an additional major expense if it’s not. A barebones installation with light duty baskets, natural tees and simple wooden signs and do-it-yourself design (not recommended) can be installed for about $350 per hole. A full service community course with a heavy duty basket, dual cement tee pads, nice dual tee signs and two sleeves for basket placements on each hole could run up to $1000 per hole which includes a basic design fee on a property with little clearing to be done. The design fee could be $2000-$3000 higher if the course requires lots of fairway clearing thru woods and the designer is involved in supervising that process. An added cost might be if the clearing is done by outside hired professionals versus park staff and volunteers. Additional amenities that may be considered would be an information sign board at the start of the course and benches at several or all holes. A very nice course can be installed for $20,000 in most places where not much clearing is required. Mini-Golf (commercial) http://www.minigolfconstructionco.com/cost.html $100,000-$400,000 go to site for examples and details. This half-acre park situated on the Berkeley Marina on San Francisco Bay certainly doesn’t appear to be a playground on first glance, but rather looks like a seaside junkyard. The dirt ground and chaotic appearance of structures belies the innovative theory at work. Adventure Playground is one of a handful of the country’s “wild playgrounds” that embraces free, unstructured play where children can cut loose as they self-organize and become better problem solvers. Here, children are encouraged to pick up a hammer and nails and some wood out and see what they can create. Paints and brushes are also available, and children are invited to paint almost any surface at the park. Children at Adventure Playground have the unique opportunity to truly explore and manipulate their surroundings in whichever ways suit their imagination. Steam Train http://www.kitsaplivesteamers.org/ Contact club for costs. Pool – Outdoor Indoor pool across the street at Don Nakata Pool. Swimming in peat pond Not very practical. Fishing – Trout – water temperature is too high in pond (stock pond with fish that tolerate warmer water) http://www.ontswcd.com/Articles/Trout%20Pond%20Management.html Trout live in water temperatures between 33° - 75°F, but grow most rapidly in water 50° - 65°F and are less susceptible to parasites and diseases. Ponds are unlikely to be this cool unless fed by springs or deep groundwater. Open water in winter may indicate the presence of these water sources. Brook trout need cooler water than rainbow trout. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coldwater_fish#Freshwater_pond_fish https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_carp It is cultivated in China for food, but was introduced in Europe and the United States for aquatic weed control. It is a fish of large, turbid rivers and associated floodplain lakes, with a wide degree of temperature tolerance. Grass carp will enter reproductive condition and spawn at temperatures of 20 to 30°C (68 to 86°F). Fishing – Fly Rod practice area currently there are no fish http://www.sageflyfish.com/blog/05/2013/accuracy-above-all/ Bainbridge Island is very fortunate to have SAGE fly fishing manufacturing on Day Road. SAGE should be able to provide information on how to build a fly fishing practice area at the pond. Picnic Area

The new element must be consistent with the Capital Facilities Element as it relates to park and recreation facilities. The element must include estimates of park and recreation demand for a ten-year period, an evaluation of facilities and service needs, and an evaluation of intergovernmental coordination opportunities to provide regional approaches for meeting park and recreational demand [RCW 36.70A.070(8)]. Although new or amended elements are to be adopted concurrent with the scheduled update provided in RCW 36.70A.130, that requirement is postponed until adequate state funding is available. The requirements to incorporate any such new or amended elements “shall be null and void until funds sufficient to cover applicable local government costs are appropriated and distributed by the state at least two years before local government must update comprehensive plans” [RCW 36.70A.070(9)]. Changes in Recreation Preferences On the national and regional scale, recreation interests change. Some are more related to fads whereas others maintain a rather constant level. The IAC completed an Assessment of Outdoor Recreation in Washington State in 2002. In general, Washington residents favored close-to-home, low-cost activities. Linear activities (especially walking, hiking, and bicycling) are currently the most popular activities in Washington state, following national trends. Sports, individual and team types 52 combined, is second in popularity, with many sports competing for use of available facilities. Nature activities, sightseeing, picnicking, and other low-effort activities are also high on the list. The following figure depicts the overall percentage of respondents that participate in general recreation categories. Turf Field http://www.fieldturf.com/en/fieldturf-difference/cost-analysis example not recommendation

COST ANALYSIS The financial benefit to a FieldTurf field over natural grass is quite simple: The upfront cost is higher, but the cost savings over time make it a much more financially-sound decision.

Community Garden/Orchard/Forest – Pea Patch – small plots for individuals Use Battle Point Park pea patch for construction cost and operational cost. Orchard – various trees for agricultural education (cider apples would be easy to grow and disease resistant) any excess could be sold to local distillers

http://cru.cahe.wsu.edu/CEPublications/FS141E/FS141E.pdf  Common  cider  apple  varieties  grown  in  Washington  State  include  Kingston  Black  (photo  shown  above),  Yarlington  Mill,  Brown  Snout,  Dabinett,  and  Porter’s  Perfection,  among  others  (Moulton  et  al.  2010).  There  were  an  estimated  204  acres  of  cider  apples  produced  in  Washington  State  in  2010  and  256  acres  in  2011  (Northwest  Agriculture  Business  Center  informal  survey  2013).  Cider  apples  can  be  produced  with  fewer  pesticide  inputs  than  dessert  apples  require  since  minor  surface  blemishes  are  tolerated  if  yield  and  internal  fruit  quality    are  not  affected  (Peck  and  Merwin  2008).  Cider  apple  production  in  western  Washington  is  not  limited  by  environmentally  induced  diseases  (for  example,  scab),  which  often  limit  fresh  market  apple  production  and  yields  in  this  same  region.    http://fruit.cfans.umn.edu/apples/beforeyoustart/  Establishment  Costs  per  Acre    Penn  State  has  several  worksheets  in  their  2012-‐2013  Pennsylvania  Tree  Fruit  Production  Guide  (PDF)  that  can  be  used  to  help  estimate  costs  for  http://extension.psu.edu/plants/tree-‐fruit/tfpg  Land  preparation  Orchard  planting  Maintaining  a  productive  apple  orchard    The  Penn  State  worksheets  assume  slightly  lower  tree  densities  than  is  probably  optimal.  If  dwarf  trees  are  planted  at  8  foot  by  14  foot  spacing,  there  will  be  388  to  the  acre.    These  cost  estimate  sheets  do  not  include  costs  for  tree  stakes.  A  permanent  stake  should  be  provided  for  each  dwarf  tree,  so  this  cost  should  be  added  to  your  planting  budget.  Planting  year  costs  include  trees,  tree  guards,  stakes,  labor  to  plant  and  train  trees,  fertilizer  and  pesticides  (herbicides,  insecticides,  fungicides,  rodenticides,  and/or  bactericides).    Non-‐bearing  year  costs  include  pesticides  and  the  labor  for  pruning,  training,  mowing,  and  pest  control.  Remember,  after  the  fifth  year,  production  costs  will  increase  while  yields  and  income  are  also  increasing.  As  the  trees  get  larger,  they  will  require  more  pest  control  chemicals  to  achieve  good  coverage,  and  more  pruning,  and  it  will  be  more  time-‐consuming  to  harvest  the  fruit.  Costs  of  $4,000  to  $5,000  per  acre  can  be  expected.    Hiring  honeybee  hives  and  thinning  fruit  are  additional  costs  in  bearing  years.  Advertising  and  packing  costs  will  vary  depending  on  how  the  fruit  is  to  be  marketed.  A  pick-‐your-‐own  orchard  will  not  have  high  harvest  costs,  but  will  pay  workers  to  do  things  that  other  orchards  don’t,  such  as  to  drive  the  customers  on  wagons  around  the  orchard,  or  to  entertain  crowds  to  attract  them  to  the  orchard.  This  kind  of  orchard  is  also  likely  to  have  higher  insurance  costs.    Deer  Fencing  One  site  preparation  expense  not  included  in  these  worksheets  is  that  of  fencing  the  orchard  to  keep  deer  out.  Fencing  costs  vary  considerably,  depending  on  type  of  fence  chosen,  materials  used,  size  and  layout  of  orchard.  The  Minnesota  Department  of  Natural  Resources  can  help  you  design  a  deer  fence  for  your  orchard..  Deer  fencing  should  be  considered  essential  to  successful  apple  production  in  Minnesota.  Young  trees  in  particular  are  attractive  to  deer,  and  can  be  killed  in  a  single  season  of  heavy  browsing.  Hanging  bars  of  soap,  human  hair,  or  other  repellants  in  the  trees  might  be  effective,  but  it  might  not—you  can’t  count  on  repellants.

One  alternative  to  deer  fencing  could  be  keeping  guard  dogs  in  the  orchard;  there  will  be  another  set  of  costs  associated  with  this  method  of  pest  control.  Do  not  plan  to  simply  shoot  the  deer  “as  needed.”  Special  permits  for  killing  animals  harming  your  crop  are  available  from  the  DNR;  however,  no  matter  how  many  deer  you  kill  or  have  killed,  more  will  soon  replace  them,  and  continue  to  damage  your  trees.     Aquifer Technology Compound https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8HZvfKgZOg Video of ground water flow similar aquifer water recharge could be used as public education.
