Lent is the 40-day season of penance in preparation for the celebration of the redemption of the human race by Jesus Christ. Lent begins Ash Wednesday, March 1, and ends on Thursday, April 13, followed by the Sacred Triduum, April 13-15, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday followed by Easter Sunday, April 16.
The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. On a day of Fast, only one full meal is permitted. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. On a Day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence.
The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence “substantially,” or as a whole is a serious obligation.
The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance.
The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, March 5, to the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, Sunday, June 11, 2017.

CHRISM MASS
On Tuesday, April 11th, Bishop Dennis Sullivan will gather with all the clergy of our Diocese at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St. Agnes Church, to celebrate the annual Chrism Mass. At this Mass, he will bless all the oils to be used throughout the coming year in the celebration of Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and Holy Orders. It is a wonderful opportunity to see our Diocese united as one in preparation for the Sacred Triduum which begins two days later. We encourage all parishioners to participate in this magnificent Liturgy which begins at 4:00 PM. To permit our staff to attend, the parish office will close at 2:45 PM. If you would like more information or have any questions, please contact the parish office.

FAITHFULL FOOD DRIVE EVENT
A sincere thank you is extended to all who helped prepare for, and participated in, this event.
In preparation for the faithFULL Food Drive which will occur throughout the Camden diocese during the weekend of April 1 & 2, the families of our parish gathered to learn about whom this drive assists. With the help of our faithful parishioners, an education was provided for our families who helped to prepare for this event by getting handouts ready for the weekend before the drive.
faithFULL Food
Drive 2017
Again this year our Diocese will sponsor the Faithfull Food Drive. This year’s collection will take place on Sunday,
April 2nd. We will provide a list of needed items with a grocery bag (compliments of Bottino’s Shop Rite) the weekend prior to the collection. Please plan to help Bishop Sullivan assist those in need of food by responding generously! Thank you in advance for all you do for those in need in our Diocese. Last year, we collected over 2,000 pounds of needed items for our brothers and sisters in this area.

WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY
MASS
If in this calendar year (01/01/17 through 12/31/17), you are celebrating a milestone Wedding Anniversary of 25, 50, 60 or 70 years or more of marriage, please join us in celebrating on Sunday, June 18, at 3:00 PM Mass in Glassboro at Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish. Bishop Sullivan will be the celebrant. A light reception will follow in the parish hall. Registration forms are available at our parish office. Registration deadline is May 26, 2017. For more information, please contact our parish office.
Our goal here at Saints Peter and Paul Parish is $144,671.06 - but we have already raised an incredible $83,080 from the contributions of only 242 families. That’s an average gift of over $343! Every gift helps and is needed.
Now we invite all parishioners to participate in this important effort. During our House of Charity Appeal, please make your sacrificial gift to help continue the mission of the Church here in the Diocese of Camden.
A MUSICAL JOURNEY THROUGH HIS FINAL DAYS
