UPCOMING EVENTS July 30, 2017
“Deacon’s Corner”
IN A DISTINCTLY CATHOLIC SETTING, THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC YOUTH CON-FERENCE INVITES PARTICIPANTS TO ENCOUNTER CHRIST, EXPERIENCE CHURCH, AND BE EMPOWERED FOR DISCIPLESHIP. Every other year, Catholic young people and their chaperones—youth ministers, campus ministers, parents, cate-chists, priests, coaches, and scout leaders—come together to pray, learn, and grow intheir faith. In addition to opportunities to receive the sacraments of the Eucharist and penance, NCYC partici-pants attend general and breakout sessions on topics relevant to living as a disciple of Christ in to-day's world, visit with organizations that provide resources and other support to youth and youth ministry, spend time in personal and communal prayer, and engage in service to others. We will be
embarking on this adventure this year in Indianapolis November 16-18. More details are coming, but if you think you are interested, contact Deacon Denny. We will be having an informational meeting in Au-gust. Go to: http://www.nfcym.org/ncyc1/ to see the videos and get more info.

God asks Solomon to make a wish. Likewise, according to BeliefNet.com, the following are supposed to be "20 common questions kids ask about God." Why did God create the world? Were there dinosaurs on the ark? Why did God make people? What does God look like? Does God have friends or is he alone? Where does God live? Does God sleep or does he rest? Who created God? Why can't we see God? Can Christians hear God talking to them? Dad, why do I need two fathers, you and God? Is Jesus God? Do God and Jesus cry? How did Jesus walk on water? Why does God love people? What is heaven like? How can Jesus fit in my heart? Why do some people die before they are old? Is there a McDonald's in heaven? Why do we go to church if God is everywhere? --"20 questions kids ask about God," BeliefNet.com. Retrieved February 17, 2017. (adjust the 20 questions to fit the bulletin)

Mass Intentions:
Know of anyone who is interested in the Catholic faith or who may be interested in becoming a member of the Catholic faith? If so, have them call the church office and leave their information. As we begin making plans for the RCIA program in the coming year, we look forward to welcoming others to "come and see" what God has in store for them.
Stewardship “Above all, let your love for one an-other be constant, for love covers a multitude of sins. Be mutually hospitable without complaining. As generous distributors of God’s manifold grace, put your gifts at the service of one another, each in the measure you have received.”

Why join the St Vincent de Paul Society? Tracey Kreipe
There but for the grace of God go I…St. Vincent de Paul Society provides a firsthand opportunity to walk with and support local individuals as they are experi-encing needs of any shape, size and form. When haven’t we been or known of a friend or family mem-ber in a situation where it would have been helpful to have non-judgmental support lending a listening ear and offering works of charity or justice? Being a member of our Parish’s St. Vincent de Paul Society provides a vast array of opportunities to participate and the privilege to see Jesus in our community. We truly appreciate the continued generous support of our parishioners and invite you to celebrate and learn more about our efforts at an appreciation breakfast immediately after Mass on July 30th. Vin-centians are a diverse group of multi-talented individ-uals willing to allow the Holy Spirit to work through them. Come join us on July 30th, be open to God’s Grace and the calling of the Holy Spirit to hear more about the SVdP Ministry.
At the beginning of the PSR year we will again be training new altar servers. We NEED altar servers at all three parishes. Parents, please encourage your youth, when the call goes out, to become part of this important ministry. That includes encouraging those who are currently altar servers to come to the train-ing also to refresh their knowledge on serving.
Save the Date! Frank Runyeon, who has won national acclaim for his work as a translater & performer of Biblical texts over the past 25 years, will be giving a Mission for our Parishes on Oct. 22,23,24. More information to fol-low. You can check him out at
www.frankrunyeon.com
Senior Recognition We will recognize all our seniors heading off to college this fall at the masses on August 5th and 6th. Please join us in recognizing them.
Food Drive
Ss. Mary and Joseph will have their annual food drive for the Carlinville food pantry starting the weekend of August 12-13. Grocery bags will be passed out after mass on the weekend of Aug. 12th & 13th, and need to be returned on the following weekend, Aug. 19th & 20th. Items with the most need are chili, box dinners, hamburger helper, fruit, soups such as “Progresso” that can serve as a meal, toaster pastries, canned meat, etc. (Please no canned beans). We are able to purchase basics such as green beans, peas, corn, beef stew at a reasonable price with money donated by our community, but funds do not allow us to pur-chase all of the above items. We serve over 200 families each month and the need continues to grow. Thank you for your generosity.
