Latest Information on Opening of Churches As of June 22, 2020

As of Monday, June 8, 2020, parishes of the Archdio-cese have reopened for the public celebration of week-day Masses, provided that no more than a total of 100 socially distanced persons are present at a given Mass. Sunday Mass schedule will resume on July 3-4, 2020. Weekday Mass (Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m.) will be celebrated in the Church and not the School Chapel. Weekend Mass schedule is the same; Saturday Vigil at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday morning at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Attendees at Mass are asked to follow the usual vi-rus precautions: To not exceed the 100 person limit To stay home if ill or have a fever To wear a face mask or cloth face covering To social distance from non family members To refrain from holding or shaking hands To refrain from socializing before or after Mass To refrain from touching the pews or hymnals `To receive Holy Communion in the hand To maintain a single file line with social distanc-ing for reception of Holy Communion To refrain from singing Other Items of Interest: 1. The schedule for the Celebration of the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation will return to normal, Saturday 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. or anytime by appointment. 2. Funerals, weddings and baptisms will now re-sume as long as the above guidelines can be followed.

Statement from the Archdiocese Regarding Weekend Mass: The dispensation from the Sunday obligation previously granted to all Catholics in the Archdiocese has now been extended through Sunday, September 6, 2020. This will remain in effect even when the public celebration of Sun-day Mass resumes starting on July 3, 2020.

Look What I Found… Do you know how you feel when you find some-thing nice and want to share it with other people be-cause you know it will be good for them? I have found something I want to share with you. In my travels I found a remarkable little Catholic store in Avon, Connecticut. It really is not just a Cath-olic store but a beautiful little shop that has been transformed from a historic carriage house, now filled with curated Catholic gifts. It contains unique items from around the world, from Australia to Ireland and more. There is jewelry, books, antiques, and artisan items made with wood, leather, metal and clay. They even offers workshops that will be of interest to so many people. I think you have to visit because I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. You can shop open hours that are posted or make an appointment. The shop is called the Domestic Monastery and is located at 200 Waterville Road, Avon. Call or text (860) 914-8226. A Prayer of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things. And I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacra-mentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I em-brace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Welcome James Morcaldi! I am happy to welcome Jimmy Morcaldi as the new Director of Music/Organist/Cantor for our parish. Jim-my is a talented musician with experience in Catholic worship, choir direction and liturgy. He is very profi-cient on the organ, piano and as a cantor and will do a great job for our parish. With the hope of restarting Masses soon, all will be able to meet Jimmy and wel-come him to our parish. He is a young talent, only graduating from college in 2018, but has already amassed an impressive resume.

Vacation Advice from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

During his reign as pope, Pope Benedict offered comments on vacations and asked all people to consider enhanc-ing their time away by considering the following: He offers two basic goals besides relaxation: spending time with others and spending time with God. It’s one thing to spend an hour or two with a person, or to be with family or a partner all the time in the daily rou-tines of life, but there’s something special (and sometimes challenging) about travelling together. Quality time is a great thing, but the hours of non-quality time during a vacation — in cars, waiting at airports, between events — cre-ate a different kind of intimacy. Are you challenged by the pope’s suggestion to spend time with others? Is there a visit to family that you could do instead of that beach vacation which will yield greater fruit in the long run? Maybe not — and not every vacation should be about visiting family; getaways are valuable too. But it’s worth asking yourself. It’s obvious how to spend time with other people — bring them along or go to them — but how do we spend time with God while on vacation? The pope offers three ideas to explore. 1. Being in nature: In a talk to a group of pilgrims — during his own vacation at Castel Gandolfo in 2010 — Pope Ben-edict said: “I would like to recommend that during this time of vacation, you revivify your spirits by contemplating the splendors of Creation. Parents, teach your children to see nature, respect and protect it as a magnificent gift that presents to us the grandeur of the Creator! In speaking in parables, Jesus used the language of nature to explain to his disciples the mysteries of the Kingdom. May the images he uses become familiar to us! Let us remember that the divine reality is hidden in our daily lives like the seed in the soil.” Whether it’s the majesty of a western canyon or summer night sky, the delicate beauty of a wildflower or song-bird, or the insane complexity of a fractal pattern or balanced ecosystem – it’s hard not to feel the presence of some-thing greater than yourself when you spend time in nature. Cherish these opportunities; some of them are probably closer to home than you realize. 2. Reading scripture: Pope Benedict suggests bringing a Bible with you on vacation. This is a not a trivial or overly pious idea. It is easy when vacationing to leave all your normal spiritual routines behind. It might feel like you don’t need daily prayer, meditation and sacred reading when you’re vacationing on the beach, especially if you see those practices as salves, bandages, for the damage done by regular life. But touching base with God is not just something to do when you need it; it enriches the good times even more than the bad, because without a crisis to absorb the good energy, so to speak, it is all available for enrichment. It may seem appropriate to continue a daily yoga or running practice on the beach but it might feel weird to pull out a spiritual book. But if it’s already part of your daily spiritual practice to read, let me suggest that you do it on va-cation too. 3. Visiting sacred spaces: The pope’s third suggestion is to visit sacred places while on vacation. Popping into Notre Dame Cathedral while in Paris may just became a high point of a vacation. Visiting monasteries, churches, shrines and other spiritual sites can be uplifting. While it might be half a day out of a two-week vacation, it’s a memory you’ll always have with you. And you might even consider devoting a vacation to making a pilgrimage, like the Camino or Lourdes. The pope encourages us to “revivify” our spirits while on vacation. Consider destinations or side trips to take in the divine majesty and beauty of nature or spiritual sites. And even if your vacation is calming and escapist, maintaining your daily and weekly spiritual routines will help ground you and might even stimulate spiritual growth.
