•BAPTISMS / BAUTIZOS/ BATTESIMO Baptism are celebrated once a month on a Sunday after the 12:30 Mass in Spanish and 2:00pm in English. The dates for the Baptism of children and for the Pre-Baptismal instruction of parents should be arranged in the rectory ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE. In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian.

•WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

“I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give you a spirit of cowardice, but rather of power and love and self-control. So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake, but bear your share of the hardship for the gospel, with the strength that comes from God. Take as your norm the sound words that you heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” We all need reminders. Emails are sent about

meetings, calls made about a dentist appointment, a light on the dashboard to check the oil. Each one has importance and serves a good purpose. Paul resorts to a reminder and uses the example of a flame. We know a small spark has great potential to become a blazing inferno. Blowing gently on embers from a barbecue can create a fire. The old song ‘it only takes a spark to get a fire going’ is real. The same image was directed to Timothy, reminding him of the hands asking for the Spirit to ordain him. The same imposition of hands occurred for us at our baptism and confirmation. Yes, we too have the gift of power, love and self control. Am I ready to stir it into a flame?

“Te recomiendo que reavives el don de Dios que has recibido por la imposición de mis manos. Porque el Espíritu que Dios nos ha dado no es de temor, sino de fortaleza, de amor y de sobriedad. No te avergüences del testimonio de nuestro Señor, ni de mí, que soy su prisionero. Comparte conmigo los sufrimientos por el Evangelio, animado con la fortaleza de Dios. Toma como norma las saludables lecciones de fe y de amor a Cristo Jesús que has escuchado de mí.” Necesitamos recordatorios. Mandamos e-mails sobre juntas, nos llaman por citas con el dentista, se enciende el tablero para chequeo del aceite. Cada uno tiene importancia y sirve un buen propósito. San Pablo hace uso de un recordatorio y utiliza el ejemplo de una llama. Sabemos que una pequeña chispa tiene gran potencial para convertirse en un candente infierno. Al soplar gentilmente sobre brasas en una parrilla podemos crear un fuego. La canción que dice ‘sólo se necesita una chispa para empezar un fuego’ es real. La misma imagen se le dirigió a Timoteo, recordándole la imposición de manos pidiendo al Espíritu que lo ordenara. La misma imposición de manos se nos aplicó durante nuestro bautismo y confirmación. Si, nosotros también tenemos el don del poder, del amor y la sobriedad. ¿Estoy listo para reavivar la llama?

È un male molto diffuso tra i credenti quello di considerare la fede come un atteggiamento puramente intellettuale, come la semplice accettazione di alcune verità. Cioè una fede che si traduce in una presa di posizione teorica, senza una vera incidenza sulla vita. Questo squilibrio ha come conseguenza lo scandalo della croce: l’esitazione davanti alle difficoltà che incontriamo ogni giorno e che sono sovente insormontabili se noi non siamo abbastanza radicati in Dio. Allora ci rivoltiamo con la stessa reazione

insolente e insultante che scopriamo nelle parole del libro di Abacuc. Le due brevi parabole del testo evangelico ricordano due proprietà della fede: l’intensità e la gratuità. Per mettere in rilievo il valore di una fede minima, ma solida, Cristo insiste sugli effetti che può produrre: cambiare di posto anche all’ albero più profondamente radicato. Per insistere sulla fede come dono di Dio, porta l’esempio del servitore che pone il servizio del suo amore prima di provvedere ai suoi propri bisogni. È l’esigenza del servizio del Vangelo che ci ricorda san Paolo (1Tm 1,1), ma questo stesso apostolo ci avverte che “i lavori penosi” trovano sempre l’appoggio della grazia di Dio.
