WHAT IS A CATECHIST?
The word “catechist” comes from the Greek word
“echo”. Catechists echo the Word of God to our
parish children. They come from all walks of life
and all ages: women, men, parents, grandparents, con-
firmed teenagers. Catechists are people, just like you, who
generously volunteer their time to share our Catholic faith
and values with our younger brothers and sisters. They are
positive role models who help children grow in faith and
spirituality. What an important ministry! Through the
words and actions of our catechists, the Good News contin-
ues to spread throughout the world. Interested? Phone

URGE NJ ASSEMBLY TO
OPPOSE ASSISTED SUICIDE
On Monday, March 12, the Assembly Judiciary Commit-
tee released the Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act
(A1504). The bill will now be voted on by the General
Assembly. The bill would allow physicians to prescribe
drugs to end the lives of terminally ill individuals consid-
ered to have six months to live. The facts are clear—in
California, Vermont and in Oregon - states that have passed
assisted suicide bills - insurance companies have denied
individuals expensive healthcare coverage but offered them
low cost drugs to end their life.
In an era of cost control and managed care, patients with
lingering illnesses may be branded as a financial liability
for the insurance company, and decisions to encourage
death could be driven by reducing costs.
Please contact your state legislators and tell them that you
oppose A1504/S1072. To take action, visit: https://
njcatholic.org/faith-in-action.
