From the Pastor’s Desk…
Last Thursday, we celebrated the Feast of Ascension of the Lord into Heaven. We recite these
words in the Creed: “He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.” The
Ascension is a feast of victory and hope. Victory, because Jesus ascended to the Father in glory
after fulfilling his mission on earth. Hope because (quoting the preface of the Ascension of the
Lord)
He ascended, not to distance himself from our lowly state,
But that we, his members, might be confident of following
Where he, our head and founder, has gone before.
In today’s first reading, we find the apostles in the Upper Room with Mary, awaiting the Holy
Spirit. By this, we are reminded of our need to wait on the Lord in prayer prior to following the
mission He has given us. We invite the Holy Spirit to fill us and to energize us to be effective
messengers of the Gospel.
In the second reading, St. Peter presents possible reactions when Christians communicate Christ
to the world. He encourages us to choose to rejoice to the extent we share in Christ’s suffering.
Although this is not an easy task, we should be consoled by the fact Christ is with us in the
midst of obstacles, challenges, and persecution. This is an opportunity to glorify God in the
name of Christ.
In the Gospel of John (Jn.17), Jesus, having completed his mission on earth, confidently re-
quests the Father to glorify him. He has accomplished the work the Father has given Him: He
has communicated eternal life to his disciples and to the world. On this day, we Christians
are also called upon to transmit and communicate this message of eternal life to our world, that
is, to know God and Christ, the Son of God. With the help of the Holy Spirit, let us live up to
this calling.
Come Holy Spirit! Pentecost 2020
Next Sunday, May 31st, we will celebrate Pentecost 2020, the feast of the Birthday of the
Church. As we look forward to this very special day, let us pray with the whole Church that we
too will receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of the Pentecost.
God bless you!

I thank YOU, our SNT parish family, for all the
support you’ve given our church during this diffi-
cult and challenging period. The donations you’ve
been giving are much needed to pay recurring op-
erating expenses (utilities, insurance, etc.). I miss
you and sincerely hope we can be together to cele-
brate the liturgy and other events in the near fu-
ture. Let us continue to be united in prayer.

SUNDAY, MAY 24, 2020 GOSPEL JOHN 17:1-11a
A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has
come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,
just as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son
may give eternal life to all you gave him. Now this is eternal
life,
that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom
you sent, Jesus Christ.
I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave
me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I
had with you before the world began.
“I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the
world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me, and
they have kept your word. Now they know that everything you
gave me is from you, because the words you gave to me I have
given to them, and they accepted them and truly understood that
I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.
I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for the ones you
have given me, because they are yours, and everything of mine
is yours and everything of yours is mine, and I have been glori-
fied in them. And now I will no longer be in the world, but they
are in the world, while I am coming to you.”

Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo, a quien tú has enviado.
