“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” Amen. “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.” (or another form of the greeting may be used) And with your Spirit.

“Brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.”

Penitential Act

(One of the following forms of the penitential act is used:)

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (striking breast) through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God. “May God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.” Amen.

“Have mercy on us, O Lord.” For we have sinned against you. Show us, O Lord, your mercy.” And grant us your salvation. “May God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.” Amen. “Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy. “Christ, have mercy,” Christ, have mercy. “Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy.

“Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy. “Christ, have mercy,” Christ, have mercy. “Lord, have mercy,” Lord, have mercy. “May God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.” Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 85

1st Reading - Isaiah 11:1-10

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

On that day, a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom. The spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him: a spirit of wisdom and of understanding, a spirit of counsel and of strength, a spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD, and his delight shall be the fear of the LORD. Not by appearance shall he judge, nor by hearsay shall he decide, but he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide aright for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. Justice shall be the band around his waist, and faithfulness a belt upon his hips. Then the wolf shall be a guest of the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; the calf and the young lion shall browse together, with a little child to guide them. The cow and the bear shall be neighbors, together their young shall rest; the lion shall eat hay like the ox. The baby shall play by the cobra’s den, and the child lay his hand on the adder’s lair. There shall be no harm or ruin on all my holy mountain; for the earth shall be filled with knowledge of the LORD, as water covers the sea. On that day, the root of Jesse, set up as a signal for the nations, the Gentiles shall seek out, for his dwelling shall be glorious.

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

2nd Reading - Romans 15:4-9

A Reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans

Brothers and sisters: Whatever was written previously was written for our instruction, that by endurance and by the encourage-ment of the Scriptures we might have hope. May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another, in keeping with Christ Jesus, that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God. For I say that Christ became a minister of the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, to confirm the promises to the patriarchs, but so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: Therefore, I will praise you among the Gentiles and sing praises to your name. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

I will hear what God proclaims: Peace to the people; peace to all who change their hearts and place their trust in God. R. Mercy and truth embrace; peace and justice. Truth shall break forth from the earth, and justice from on high. R. God will give us good things; our land will yield its harvest. Justice, O, justice; justice, O, justice will walk before our God every step of the way, every step of the way. R.

“Let us pray.”

“Almighty and merciful God, may no earthly undertaking hinder those who set out in haste

to meet your Son, but may our learning of heavenly wisdom gain us

admittance to his company. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.”

Amen.

Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven (bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Gospel - Matthew 3:1-12

The Lord be with you. And with your Spirit.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Glory to you, O Lord.

Apostle’s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, (bow) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

Or

John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. John wore clothing made of camel’s hair and had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey. At that time Jerusalem, all Judea, and the whole region around the Jordan were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance. And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones. Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. I am baptizing you with water, for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is mightier than I. I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fan is in his hand. He will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Preface Dialogue “The Lord be with you.” And with your Spirit. “Lift up your hearts.” We lift them up to the Lord. “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” It is right and just.

“Pray brothers and sisters (brethren), that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.” May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church.

Prayer over the Offerings “Be pleased, O Lord, with our humble prayers and offerings, and, since we have no merits to plead our cause, come, we pray, to our rescue with the protection of your mercy. Through Christ our Lord.”

Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. “Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil, graciously grant us peace in our days, that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we wait upon the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and for ever. “Lord Jesus Christ, you said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will. Who live and reign for ever and ever.” Amen. “The peace of the Lord be with you always.” And with your Spirit. “Let us offer each other the sign of peace.”

The death of a loved one is always a difficult experi-ence. But when you are a teenager, walking through grief is particularly poignant. It is punctuated by all the conflicts and questions and realizations of the teen years. This afternoon’s session is developed to help teens understand the grief process as they listen to the testimonies of other young people who have walked through it, and gives hope that they can heal and grow through this life-changing experience.

Whether it was the death of a family member or a friend; someone you were acquainted with at school; whether it was an illness, an accident, a homicide, a sui-cide… this Sunday afternoon session is for you!

Dinner will be provided—just RSVP to Darlene Khoury at the rectory office: 216-524-1394

St. Basil Campus of St. Michael School Celebrates Thanksgiving with Charlie Brown

November 21, 2016…On Friday, November 18, Kindergarten students at the St. Basil Campus of St. Michael School gave thanks with a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. The students began their celebration with watching the movie, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiv-ing, followed by a snack mimicked after the movie’s meal; toast, pretzels, popcorn and jelly beans. The cups used during the snack were yellow with Charlie Brown’s famous black zigzag on them and Peanuts characters were also on each snack bowl. After the snack, the students participated in several Thanksgiving activities and had a discussion about the importance of being together for Thanksgiving and that it isn’t just about the food, like the Peanuts characters learned in the movie.

The Charlie Brown theme has been carried through this school year with the It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown theme for the St. Basil Open House and now the Thanksgiving celebration. The theme will continue through the Christmas season as well when the students go on a field trip to see the play A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Come and lend a hand… Decorating of the inside of the Church will be done on Tuesday, December 20th at 1:30pm instead of the 22nd as our last announcement stated. Many of our volunteers are part of SVDP and they will be helping to serve the poor at Holy Name on the 22nd. Anyone wishing to

come is more than welcome. Helping for an hour or two is greatly appreciated!

The Giving Tree The tradition of the Giving Tree

continues! The Giving Tree is still up! Please take a tag, wrap the gift, attach the tag to the gift and return it to the

Church no later than the weekend of December 10/11. The presents will be distributed to families of Metro Catholic, the Parma Hunger Center, and some local families in need. As the tags are removed,

let’s “redecorate” the tree with socks, hats, gloves, scarves, etc for distribution by our St. Vincent DePaul Society. Each year you help take care of our brothers and sisters who are in need as Jesus did.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

PSR NEWS A huge thank you to all the PSR students who donated food and paper products to our SVDP pantry at our PSR Thanksgiving Mass. I would additionally like to thank

the 3rd graders who worked so diligently promoting this project. They are learning how we are Christ to others

when we take care of those less fortunate than ourselves. They made bookmarks with lists of donation items on

them and visited all the classrooms asking the other students to donate. Great job PSR students and great job 3rd graders!

This is the 1st week of PSR presents being placed under our parish Giv-

ing Tree by our students. You are doing a great job! Let’s see how many more gifts we can place under the tree the next 2 Mondays!

Keep up the good work! God Bless,
