Do you want to be a disciple of Jesus? This is your opportunity to help and serve your com-munity of Saint Matthew. We are looking for catechists, and aides to help with the faith formation.

Responsibilities of Catechist & Aides: To teach and model the Gospel Values of Jesus and to support one another in Christian love, friendship, and peace and to build up the Kingdom of God.

What is a catechist? A person engaged in re-ligious formation and education, from the bishop to lay ecclesial ministers and clergy to volunteers at the local level. The primary cat-echists for children are their parents.

What is a facilitator? A facilitator is someone who having Christ in his or her life creates a positive learning climate, establishes credibil-ity, adapts teaching to what participants know and how they learn, and facilitates learning by encouraging participation.

Youth Formation Includes:

PSR - K-5

EDGE - 6-8

LifeTeen - 9-12

RCIC - 17 or younger

Adult formation includes:

RCIA - 18 and over

XV Domingo Ordinario

Hoy surge de las Sagradas Escrituras el tema de la “elección” a la misión, resistida al principio por algunos profetas, pero abrazada por san Pablo y por los apóstoles, a quienes Jesús les confío su misión. A pesar de ser pastor y cultivador de higos, Amós respondió a la llamada de Dios, quien lo hizo profeta del pueblo de Israel. Al igual que otros profetas que, al recibir la misma llamada, resistieron darle una respuesta clara, Amós se resistió al principio, pero, con el tiempo y ante la

necesidad, accedió a la misión que Dios le confiaba. Siglos después, Jesús eligió a doce apóstoles y los envió a predicar y a sanar, para que no quedara duda alguna de la presencia de Dios en el mismo pueblo. De la misma manera, san Pablo, en la segunda lectura, abraza el ministerio que nace de su corazón renovado por el encuentro con el Señor

Resucitado. En el hermoso himno de la Carta a los Efesios, Pablo exalta al Dios que ha elegido a sus hijos para que experimentaran la redención por medio de Jesucristo y lograsen vivir en el amor. ¿Qué significa la elección para nosotros? El tema, a primera vista, parece señalar la vocación al sacerdocio, al diaconado permanente, o al laicado comprometido; y, de hecho, se pudiera canalizar con claridad hacia la vocación de líderes. No obstante, el tema abarca la vocación amplia de todos los bautizados que han sido elegidos y llamados a vivir la Buena Nueva de Jesús con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo. Conviene, por lo tanto, que en la celebración litúrgica se incluya este tema con amplitud, aunque, durante la semana, se utilice por grupos comunitarios para dialogar con más tiempo sobre la vocación al liderazgo en la Iglesia.

XV Sunday Ordinary Time

The biblical texts today address the theme of God’s

election to those entrusted with a mission. This

election, or God’s call to prophets and disciples, was

resisted by many at first, but was ultimately

embraced with a deep sense of commitment, as the

Twelve demonstrate in today’s Gospel and Saint Paul

in the Second Reading. In the First Reading, Amos

maintains that he is only a shepherd, but ultimately

agrees to follow the Lord’s request to preach a

prophetic message to

Israel. In Saint Mark’s

Gospel, Jesus calls the

Twelve and sends

them with specific

instructions to preach,

teach, and to heal

those whom they

encounter on their

journey. In a beautiful

hymn that appears in a

Letter to the

Ephesians, Saint Paul praises God, who has chosen

all of his children to experience the redemption

brought about by Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, and

to live in his love. Ask yourselves this week what it

means for us to be chosen by God. An obvious

answer may lead us to answer from the context of a

vocation to the priesthood, religious life, or the

commitment of the laity. However, the question is

open enough to include the call of all the baptized to

preach the good news with the strength of the Holy

Spirit. It is important to include this broader vision in

today’s liturgical celebration, and during the

following week, it may serve as a source of dialogue

for smaller groups in the community.
