Sing Something Special For Holy Week Raising our voices in song is a wonderful way to celebrate our faith and to find deeper meaning in the liturgy, especially those special Masses and services that make up Holy Week. We’d like to invite you to sing with the choir for Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday this year. CDs will be provided to help you learn the music and rehearsals will take you through everything step by step, even if you don’t read music! By attending three or four Thursday night rehearsals (March 24—April 17, 7:30—9:00PM), you can add to our numbers to help make these celebrations even more special for the whole Parish community Interested individuals can contact Tom Carter at their convenience ([email protected], 732-780-2666 x327 or in person before or after weekend Masses).

You Are Invited...to be with Jesus If you heard that Jesus (body, blood, soul and divinity) was here at St. Mary’s, would you rush to be with Him? This is precisely the mystery of the “Real Presence” of Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. Now, we also have the additional opportunity to be with Him in a very special personal way every week at Eucharistic Adoration. Come visit with Jesus Wednesdays 10:00AM to 12:00PM. You can just stop in for a “visit” but if you can schedule a regular hour or ½ hour visit please e-mail Amy at: [email protected]. These prayerful readings are meant to draw us into a deeper appreciation of the Paschal Mystery and to help us in our understanding of how these readings touch our hearts today. A Spiritual Day for the Martha Mary Guild Each year Sr. Helen guides us in days of retreat and/or reflection. The Guild is looking forward to Wednesday, April 13, when Sister will lead us in a very special day of spirituality -which had originally been planned for January, but “Mother Nature” changed those plans with the appearance of a wicked snow storm. Here is Sr. Helen’s description of the day: “An Afternoon of Reflection will focus on the Salesian tradition of St. Francis de Sales. We will reflect on the writings of St. Francis and enter into some understanding and some experience of the beauty and simplicity of the Salesian tradition. ‘Love, for St. Francis, and the spiritual tradition he founded, is the beginning, end and means of the entire Christian life.’ One of the warmest and most sympathetic strands in the tapestry of Christian spiritual-ity, the Salesian tradition is a treasure many Christians have yet to discover. In our time together we hope to discover not only the richness, but also its application in our daily lives. Our gathering will include prayer, input, quiet reflection with time for optional sharing.” Join us at 11:30AM for the Rosary in the Spiritual Center Chapel. We will “brown bag” our lunches, with drinks and desserts provided by the Guild at noon. The rest of the afternoon will be dedicated to our “spiritual lives,” under the loving guidance of Sr. Helen.

The Environment and You

We continue our discussion of the challenge ahead of us: Screen Free Week April 18th – April 24th

www.commercialfreechildhood.org/screenfreeweek/ If you missed our introduction last week, the goal is to turn off the tv for 168 hours straight! This challenge refers to the tv, and to all screens, so we are including your iPad, xbox, computer, smartphone and anything else we forgot to mention. Are you up for the challenge? Sure, it’s easy to tell the kids no tv, and no computer games. We can block the text messaging on the kids' phones for a week, but what about us? Do you pick up your smartphone to constantly check each new email and text message? When your spouse is talking to you, does an incoming text distract you from the con-versation in front of you? Let’s be honest with our-selves for a minute – we cannot ask our kids to give up texting if we can’t. We cannot get them to take a break from their YouTube view-ing, if we can’t stop checking our smart phones for the latest sports update. At work, does an incoming email draw your attention away from the co-worker sitting in your office? Has the entire concept of instant access made it impossible for you to have time to think and plan? Is your day just a series of reactions to a string of never ending Interruptions? So what can we do?

If you don’t think your family can survive the entire week, try two or three days. Or set a screen free time period each day.

At work, if this is doable in your business, try an hour of quiet time when the phone is off, and emails do not get answered. Ask your co-workers for input, and see what works in your office.

You can do this, and you may actually like the change! Next week – more suggestions on how to reduce your screen time, and some suggestions on other ways to spend the time. Make a small change - make every day Earth Day. Check here next week for another suggestion, and send us your own earth friendly ideas to [email protected].

“Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome, all are welcome,

all are welcome in this place” From “All Are Welcome” — Marty Haugen

Whether returning from a few hours in kindergarten, a day of class and team practices, a day’s work in the city or a semester at college, it’s a wonderful feeling when you notice a family member waiting expectantly for you at a window, rushing to open the door, greeting you with a warm smile or hug (or a wagging tail) and welcoming you home.

Our St. Mary’s community is a family too, and we want every-one who enters our doors to feel that same sense of welcome and belonging that you get within your own family. To make this happen, St. Mary’s is forming a new ministry of Greeters and you are invited to participate. Yours will be the first faces welcoming God’s people as they come to this holy place. By extending a warm, friendly greeting and a smile to our parish-ioners and visitors as they arrive, we will all be able to partici-pate more fully as a family of faith during Mass.

Additional information will be available at the Stewardship Ministry Fair the weekend of April 9 and 10. Just look for the yellow balloons—we’ll be watching for you and ready to greet you when you come!
