Eleven ladies along with Fr. Dennis participated in the Sabbath Retreat on Saturday, September 14th at St. Mary’s. Rosina Hendrickson led them in prayer and reflection, guiding them in quiet time with God. A beautiful day to help ground them in this busy world.

HTC News

Holy Trinity Catholic athletics program supports the vision of our school. The athletics program also supports the responsibility that is shared by the school and the parents to encourage the spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, cultural and physical development of Holy Trinity students. "Sport is, in itself, an important moral and educative significance: it is a training ground in virtue, a school of inner balance and control, an introduction to more true and lasting conquests." - Pope Saint John Paul II Our fall sports season is fully underway with cross country, football, and volleyball. It is so exciting to watch our students use their talents and their training in pushing themselves to grow stronger and better. We pray that they recognize and appreciate the talents that God has given each one of them. We welcome you to come to our sporting events and help us cheer on our student athletes. GO CRUSADERS!

The Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA) begins next weekend. This is your opportunity to assist the Diocese its ministry and ultimately our parish. The Diocese od Davenport administers to 77 parishes and 18 Catholic Schools. The money is used for Priests and deacons formation, youth ministries, religious education for adults, annulments, maintains archives for parishes, along with salaries for diocesan employees including the bishop. It is only with the support given to the ADA that these ministries are able

to exist and flourish.

I hold to the belief that you cannot have allegiances to both Duke and UNC, the Packers and the Bears, or the Yankees and the Red Sox. In Matthew 6:24, it says, “He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other.” That verse isn’t talking about sports! It’s talking about God and money. Most of us love both of those and that can be a problem. If you were to love any of the sets of teams mentioned above, you have a huge problem as well. Simply put, you can only have one thing that is the most important in your life. When I ask my children what is the most important thing in their lives, they know to respond, “God.” But just because you know that is the right answer doesn’t make it the truthful answer. Total allegiance to a sports team seems easier. You won’t find a Packers fans secretly wearing a Bear’s jersey. However, we can find Christians secretly hoarding their money or doing things based solely on the love of money. Maybe the problem lies in the fact that, at times, we are merely lukewarm fans of Jesus and not disciples. If we truly have matured in our faith and strengthened our relationship with him, then real commitment comes easier. There will always be a temptation for money to take the place of Jesus, but the more committed we are, the harder it is to allow anything to come between us and our God. The question we all must continually ask ourselves is, “Is God truly the most important thing in my life?”—Tracy Earl Welliver, MT

“Supporting the Vision”

Annual Diocesan Appeal

On Thursday, September 27th the Catholic Church celebrates the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul is much more than a patron saint of thrift shops! Young Vincent became a priest hoping to advance and rise above his modest upbringing. His early ambition amounted to little when he was assigned to a poor rural parish. Here he experienced a new joy in his vocation. Hearing the profound deathbed confession of a dying servant, Vincent became more convinced of the special attention that must be given to the poor. In 1625, Vincent founded the Congregation of the Mission for the purpose of caring for the poor. Originally priests only, the mission expanded to include groups of laity who provided for spiritual and material needs of the poor in each parish. Nearly 400 hundred years later, his legacy lives on!

Founded in 1833, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a charitable organization that offers tangible assistance to individuals in need on a person-to-person basis. It offers a variety of services, including emergency financial assistance, transportation, disaster relief, low-cost housing, pharmacy, employment, job training, counseling, and information and referral. The organization also provides mortgage assistance, homemaker, budget counseling, nutrition education and advocacy services. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul additionally provides shelters for homeless and abused individuals. It administers a variety of food, youth, social justice and educational programs.

The Society's nearly 100,000 trained volunteers in the United States provided 12.5 million hours of volunteer service in 2018, helping more than 5.4 million people through visits to homes, prisons and hospitals at a value of more than $1.1 billion dollars.

A Group of parishioners

gather for the first session

of G.I.F.T. (Growing in

Faith together) on

Wednesday, September

11th at 7:00pm in the Ossenbrink Center. The topic was on

the Catholic Liturgical calendar. Look for the newsletter

coming out this fall to learn about the liturgical calendar.

Each week at G.I.F.T. there will be a different topic looked at

and discussed relating to our Catholic faith.

Father asked for topics of interest and will prepare for those

topics. There will be times he will bring in other people to

present different views or who specialize in those topics.
