His light illumines our lives in a way that brings us to life from death. We, His Body, the Church—our parish—become God-bearers of light and so extend a perpetual welcome: to the newcomer, the visitor, the stranger, the one returning. Come one, come all, to behold the Resurrected Lord. Still bearing His wounds, He comes close to ours and invites his love to illuminate our dark recesses and be filled with joy. Happy Easter! As I sought possible locales for graduate school in the late 80's, I looked outside the city of New York, and I found myself considering possibilities in California and Texas, places known (at least to us Yankees with plenty of gray winters) for lots of sunny days. In fact, I spoke with a student at UT on the phone to verify that indeed Austin had plenty of sunshine! An appropriate amount of sunlight nourishes the body with vitamins and can lift the spirits.

Baptisms/Bautismos
Baptism classes for parents and godpar-ents are held in English each month on the first Saturday of the month at 9:00am. The course is three hours long. For more information, visit the website at www.smcaustin.org.

Diocesan Guidelines for baptizing a child: If the PARENTS are not members of the Cathedral, a
letter from the parish in which the parents reside or are registered must be presented, giving permission for the child to be baptized at Saint Mary Cathedral. This must be done prior to registration for Baptism.
Copy of the state birth certificate or hospital birth certificate for the child being baptized.
Single godparents must be practicing Catholics living according to the norms of the Church.
Married couples serving as godparents must be married by the Catholic Church.
Parents and godparents must attend a Baptismal Preparation class prior to the Baptism. If the class is taken in another parish, proof of attendance must be presented.
Godparents must have received all the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, First Communion and
Confirmation. All Baptism documents must be received in the office
before a Baptism date can be set.

Ethics in Ministry
EIM Workshop & Compliance: On Aug. 1, 2016, the Diocese of Austin launched a new education program for our EIM workshop, which replaced the Basic/Refresher workshop format. The new program is a significant update of our current training program, and we believe it is important for all persons that are required to be EIM compliant to participate in this new program receive this updated information. Consequently, all clergy, religious, seminarians and employees, and all volunteers serving in ministry to minors or the vulnerable, will attend this new EIM Workshop whenever they are due for a workshop. To find the schedule and Sign Up for a Workshop (bottom right of your account page), login to you EIM account at https://www.eappsdb.com/Login.asp?ORGZ_KEY=4. If you don't recall your User ID/Password, please use the Alternate Login option. If you have never submitted an EIM application (online or paper copy), use the above link to create your EIM account and complete the application. Please contact our parish EIM site administrator (insert name) if you need assistance with EIM compliance matters. Workshop Notes:1) plan to arrive promptly as late arrivals may not be admitted 2) children should not be brought to EIM workshops. Austin comenzará a usar un nuevo programa educativo para el taller de EIM (Ética e Integridad en el Ministerio), el cual reempla-zará el formato de nuestros talleres Básico y de Actualización. El nuevo programa es una actualización significativa a los programas y creemos que es importante para todas las personas a quienes les es requerido cumplir con el programa de EIM que participen en este programa y reciban esta información actualizada. How to report an incident of concern: The Diocese of Austin is committed to preventing harm from happening to any of our children or vulnerable adults. If you are aware of sexual or physical abuse and/or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, state law requires you to report that information to local law enforce-ment or the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services at 800-252-5400 or www.dfps.state.tx.us. Additionally, if the suspected abuse is by clergy or an employee or volunteer of any diocesan parish, school or agency, a Notice of Concern should be submitted to the diocesan Ethics and Integrity in Ministry Office at 512-949-2400. The Notice of Concern can be found at www.austindiocese.org (click on REPORT ABUSE OR A NOTICE OF CONCERN). Reports may be made anonymously.

Congratulates to all students who participated in the Diocesan Science Fair last Saturday. We are proud to announce that two of our students received awards for their scientific research from among participants from Catholic schools in the Diocese.
