THE WORD OF GOD THIS SUNDAY: For this Sunday, the Solemnity of Christ the King, the Scriptural readings begin with a passage from the Book of the prophet Daniel where the Son of Man receives dominion, glory and kingship. In the second reading, from the Book of Revelation, Christ is described as the ruler of the Kings of the earth. In the Gospel, Pilate questions Jesus about kingship. THANKSGIVING: This Thursday, November 26th, is Thanksgiving Day. Mass at Saint Kilian will take place at 9:00 a.m. in the Auditorium at CWNC. Parishioners are welcome to participate in the offertory procession bring-ing up gifts of non-perishable food items or monetary contributions. The food will be go directly to our parish Food Pantry. We will also distribute small loaves of blessed bread that can be used to begin your Thanksgiv-ing dinner. Please join other parishioners in beginning this special holiday by giving thanks to Almighty God at the Eucharist.

MASS ON FRIDAY AFTER THANKSGIVING: Please note that the morning Mass on Friday, November 27th, the morning after Thanksgiving, will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. (NOT at 7:00 a.m.) in the Chapel at the Parish Center.

CHRISTMAS SEALS: Please find the 2016 Knights of Columbus Christ-mas Seals in the bulletin this weekend.

All donations help support the diocesan programs for the mentally and physically handicapped children who attend St. Anthony Inclusive Education Program and McQuire Home. Please be generous with your donation. Thank you.

The ANGEL TREE tags/ornaments will be hung on the trees in the Parish Center and CWNC this weekend and next weekend November 28th and 29th as a parish wide effort to help those in need. Last year, we donated over 1,300 gifts that brightened the lives of many individual parishioners and families as well as the following institutions and agencies: Holy Family Institute, Little Sisters of the Poor, Mars Home for Youth, Roselia Center, Lifeline of Cranberry, St. Vincent De Paul, Child Protective Services of Butler County, and homeless people through Operation Safety Net and A Child’s Place. All gifts must be returned after Masses on or before December 6th. If you are donating a gift, please be sure to read the instructions on the back of the tag/ornament and make sure the tag/ornament is attached to the gift. At the request of some institutions, gifts are not to be wrapped although gift bags are acceptable. Thank you to those who helped prepare tags/ornaments this past week. Additional help will be needed to organize and sort gifts starting on Sunday December 6th at 10 a.m. and again on Monday, Decem-ber 7th starting at 9:30 at CWNC.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY

Advent is the season in which we reread and relive the experience of ancient Israel as it longed for the coming of the Messiah. It is also a time to reflect on the infancy narra-tives of Jesus which have enriched the lives of believers through the centuries.

The Women’s Bible Study Group will begin an Advent Study “A Commentary on the Infancy Narratives of Jesus” ~ December 2nd-16th from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Parish Hall in Mars. All are welcome! Books may be purchased at the Parish Office for $16. For more infor-mation, call Chris Hespenheide at 724-316-1309.

Today is the feast of Christ the King. Throughout this year we have heard questions regarding Jesus’ identity from the Gospel of John. We have

heard that he is Lamb of God, Bread of Life and now, Eternal King. If we have walked well the journey of Ordinary Time, this solemnity will be like a second Easter. Our readings and music hearken from Holy Week and Easter. And so as we end this Cycle B with Christ the King we do so in a high and festive mode. Psalm 93, The Lord Is King, is a very appropriate psalm for this feast. We have traveled with Jesus to Jerusalem and the cross. Today we celebrate the glo-ry that awaits us beyond the cross. (reprinted from Living Liturgy, Liturgical Press, Collegeville, MN) Our choirs can be heard at the following masses: Children’s Choir December 13 @ 10:30 am December 24 @ 6:00 pm Adult Choir November 22nd @ 10:30 am December 13th @ 12:15 pm December 20th @ 10:30 am December 24th @ 10:00 pm Devoto Bells November 29th @ 10:30 am December 20th @ 12:15 pm December 24th @ 4:00 pm The Dreher Chorale practices are from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm @ CWNCHS band room. If you would like more information regarding Music Ministry at Saint Kilian Parish, please contact David Dreher 724-625-1665 x2113 or email [email protected].

SCHOOL CORNER

Words! Words! Words! Third grade has been all about wonderful words. We read the picture book Max’s Words and the novel Donovan’s Word Jar. In both books the main characters collect words. We then had fun making our own collections of words. The Cranberry Rotary came and gave each student their very own dictionary, so everyone’s col-lection grew by leaps and bounds. In a video conference with author Dennis Brennan-Nelson we learned that it takes a lot of hard work and word changes to write a picture book. She discussed how a 32 page picture book comes to life. She inspired us to become better writers. We also dis-cussed persuasive writing and how words can be used to share facts and opinions. We wrote commercials about our favorite foods that included both facts and opinions. We had to be critical listeners to figure out the facts.

In Math we discussed subtraction word problems. We learned that there are not just take away subtraction prob-lems, but that you also subtract to compare, to find a part of a whole and to find how many are needed. We also wrote our own word problems for our classmates to solve. We realized that key words can help us with math word prob-lems.

In Religion we started learning the important words of the Apostles’ Creed. We learned that the Apostles’ Creed shares our beliefs as Catholics. We are working on memo-rizing this amazing prayer. We have been saying the Apostles’ Creed every day and working with partners to memorize it.

At this time of year, words of Thanksgiving are very im-portant. The third graders are very thankful for their won-derful families, super school, and awesome parish. We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and hope you pass the word!
