Our Mission Statement
We, the parishioners of Saint Katharine Drexel Par-
ish, serve Southeast Washington County with a spirit
of welcome, compassion and charity.
We are a community rooted in the Eucharist
and nourished by the Sacraments.
We come together to joyfully celebrate our faith in
prayer and worship, respecting our spiritual diversity
and cultural heritage. We are sent forth from this
Eucharistic community, in response to the call of Je-
sus our Savior, to reach out to youth, families, elderly,
and all those in need in our parish, communities and
beyond. In the pioneering spirit of our patroness, we
offer support through witness, prayer and good works,
and we embrace the challenges and opportunities of
what it means to be a Christian
in an ever-changing world.

THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PAGE 4
Dear Friends in Christ:
During this month of November, the
Church, through the Sacred Scripture
readings directs our thoughts toward the
end of time. This coincides with the
ending of the liturgical year which is
marked next Sunday in the Solemnity of
Christ the King.
In the Gospel from Saint Luke, our Lord uses the
image of the destruction of the Temple in foretelling the
end of the world. Jesus offers the reminder that as his followers we should be prepared for the
difficulties that lie ahead in the conflicts and struggles that we are called to face.
There is not much difference for us in our modern age than it was for those in the Gospel today
as we all share a curiosity of when the end of time will indeed come.
The clear message that is found is that we must be prepared at all times to meet our Lord and
our preparedness depends on the life that we are leading right now. The happiness that we hope to
share in the kingdom of heaven is shaped now in the ways that we strive to follow the
Commandments, turn to God in prayer and live the morals and values that Jesus calls us to practice
daily.
We are called at all times to be God’s messengers of hope, now, today, and every day. No
matter what obstacles come our way, what struggles and challenges we face, God is on our side and
wishes each one of us to be saved. We must persevere in faith.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us: “Faith is an entirely free gift that God makes
to man. We can lose this priceless gift, as Saint Paul indicated to Saint Timothy: ‘wage the good
warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting conscience, certain persons have made
shipwreck of their faith.’ To live, grow, and persevere in the faith until the end we must nourish it with
the word of God; we must beg the Lord to increase or faith, it must be ‘working through charity,’
abounding in hope, and rooted in the faith of the Church” (CCC 162).
Furthermore, the Catechism states: “Faith makes us taste in advance the light of the beatific
vision, the goal of our journey here below. Then we shall see God ‘face to face,’ as he is. So faith is
already the beginning of eternal life. When we contemplate the blessings of faith even now, as if
gazing at a reflection in a mirror, it is as if we already possessed the wonderful things which our faith
assures us we shall one day enjoy” (CCC 163).
Throughout the month of November, consider visiting the cemeteries where your loved ones
and friends are buried and offer one of the prayers in the bulletin taken from the Catholic Book of
Blessings, Prayers for Visiting A Cemetery.

Music Ministry Appreciation
On Tuesday, October 29, 2019, the music ministry of our parish, choir
directors and members all gathered for a very special dinner where Betty
Hrutkay and Diana Furman were honored for their faithful service to the former
parishes of Southeast Washington County, now Saint Katharine Drexel Parish.
Following 27 years, Betty Hrutkay retired. Betty has served as the former
director of the adult mixed choir at the former Ave Maria Parish and the director
of the Funeral Resurrection Choir for now Saint Katharine Drexel Parish.
Diana Furman retired. Diana has served 30 years in music ministry at the
former Saint Oliver Plunkett Parish and now Saint Katharine Drexel Parish.
We have been blessed by these women who collectively have served the Catholic faithful of Southeast Washington
County for over 57 years in leadership positions in music ministry! We offer our prayerful best wishes to Betty and Diana for
such faith and musical talent! We are ever so grateful for inspiring us to raise our hearts and voices offering praise to God
through your faithful leadership in music ministry over the years!
We are grateful to everyone who is part of our choirs at our two church sites – thank you for your continued commitment
and dedication to music ministry and for enhancing our liturgies through your gifts and talents!
2019 “Angel Tree” Project
Saint Katharine Drexel Parish will once again participate in the “Angel
Tree” project for the upcoming Christmas season. In keeping with the spirit of
our parish whose ministry was devoted to the ministry of providing outreach
and service to children and youth most in need, our “Angel Tree” project will
off children and youth in need a brighter, happier Christmas. The “Angel
Tree” project will once again benefit Washington County Children & Youth
Services and will specifically help children and youth of our area here in
Southeast Washington County.
The trees are adorned with Angel ornaments and list gift requests from
those who are being served through this effort. Once the gifts have been
purchased, the wrapped gifts need to be returned with the original Angel tag attached to the gift. All gift
wrapped gifts with the original Angel tags are to be returned to the church and placed under the “Angel
Tree” NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, December 1, 2019.
Will you consider helping a child by taking an Angel tag, purchasing the gift and returning the gift
wrapped gifts with the original Angel tag? Thank you in advance for participating in this effort!
Thanksgiving Day Mass
Thanksgiving Day Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at
9:00 a.m. in the Bentleyville Main Church. Each family is asked to bring a non-
perishable food item that will be donated to the Washington County Food Pantry. A
monetary collection will also be taken to benefit the food banks. At the Mass – a small
loaf of baked bread will be blessed and gifted to each family to be used at Thanksgiving
Day dinner. A prayer card for a family meal blessing will be attached to the bread loaf
and is encouraged to be used for prayer at you family Thanksgiving Day dinner.

Prayer for the Faithful Departed
Heavenly Father, I believe that in Your wisdom and justice
You willed to purify all persons who die without having attained the state they need for all eternity,
all who still needs to expiate completely the sins committed here on earth.
I also believe that You have mercifully arranged that this process of purification
can be aided by the prayers of the living, and especially by the Most Holy Eucharist.
Help me to pray for my brothers and sisters who have departed from this world.
(Here mention the names of those you pray for)
May their time of purification be short, and may they be quickly guided into the holy light
promised by our Lord to Abraham and his descendants.
I offer You sacrifices and prayers of praise. Accept them for all the souls of the faithful departed
and admit them into the eternal joy of heaven. Amen.
