PASTOR’S LETTER

Dear Parishioners, Today is Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. On this day, Jesus and the Father sent down the Holy Spirit to empower the early Church community. The Holy Spirit will aid them in continuing Jesus' mission of preaching, teaching, and healing. We received the Spirit at our Baptism when we were adopted by God as His children and again at our Confirmation which was our own personal Pentecost. The Spirit is given as our helper in living out our commitment to be followers of Jesus. The Spirit is the power that we have to turn away from our sins and to walk faithfully in the ways of the Lord. May we all ask for a fresh outpouring of the Spirit to come upon us and the Church this Pentecost. The feast of Pentecost brings our Easter season to a close. We will be entering what we call Ordinary Time. We gather together on Sundays as our day of Sabbath to remember that it was on the first day of the week that Jesus rose from the dead. Sunday is a day of worship, family and rest. Let us remember to keep holy the Sabbath. Last weekend, we began having public Masses. It was good to see parishioners gathering together to worship and to feed their souls with the Eucharist. Churches were closed in order to keep bodies safe. This is not our primary purpose. We are to keep our souls healthy and we may have neglected to do that. We, as a Church, are essential for we are to worship and adore the Lord. The Lord commanded us to “Do this in memory of Me,” and “To take and eat.” Let us not fear to come into the presence of the Lord. He is God and stronger than anything. Yes, we take proper precautions but are not to live in fear. As in the words on the divine mercy image; “Lord, I trust in You.” I wish to thank Merry Nordeen and her many volunteers who prepared the Church to be open as soon as we were able. The Church is more sanitized than Market Basket. If you have gone grocery shopping, we can feel safe in coming to Church. We do have a limit as to how many can come inside but if we need to add Masses, I will do so. Those who are more in danger due to age or medical conditions are dispensed from Sunday obligation. This pandemic has made us all face the reality of death. We need to live each day as if it were our last and to live prepared to meet Jesus and enter the kingdom of

heaven. We want to avoid hell, eternal separation from God.

(continued….)

HEALING MINISTRY

Saint Joseph Inner Healing Ministry

The Saint Joseph Inner Healing Ministry recognizes this is a challenging and uncertain time we are living in. With many restrictions in place face to face prayer sessions are no longer an option. However through the Grace of God we have technology on our side. We will be offering virtual Inner Healing prayer sessions through Zoom video conferencing with our trained prayer ministers. Inner Healing can bring relief to our deepest fears, hurts, emotional pain, traumatic memories, tormenting thoughts, and relationship issues.

If you are interested in making an appointment please email Lisa Palmere at

[email protected].

PASTOR’S LETTER (Continued)

This quote from St. John Vianney is good for reflection.

“See my children, we must reflect that we have a soul to save and an eternity that awaits us. The world, its riches, pleasures and honors will pass away; heaven and hell will never pass away. Let us take care then. The saints did not all begin well and we shall go one day and meet them in heaven.”

We shall resume the Healing Mass on this Wednesday. We begin with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Adoration will go back to the original schedule. We begin after the 9:00 a.m. Mass and end at midnight on Monday through Friday. Our parish programs including Bible Study, Healing Soaking Prayer, and all faith groups are still suspended. I will be available for confession this week on Saturday, June 6, from 3:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. in the chapel or by appointment. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of your needs.

God love you,

Fr. Ron and Caleb

How to improve your spiritual health with the Rosary.

~ Philip Kosloski

The Rosary can sometimes be seen as “outdated” and not correspond to the modern needs of the spiritual life. However, what many Christians don’t realize is that the Rosary can be prayed in multiple ways, with different methods being more beneficial than others.

For example, one alternative way of praying the Rosary consists of meditating on particular virtues that correspond to the mysteries traditionally connected to each decade.

In this way, praying the Rosary becomes more “practical” and focused on the spiritual well-being of the individual. Surprisingly, this method is not new and has been taught by various saints over the centuries.

Fr. John Proctor writes in his early 20th-century book, The Rosary Guide for Priests and People, that it is often beneficial to meditate “before each decade … [on] the virtue or lesson suggested by the particular event which is commemorated in the decade. This method was one which was often preached by the great Apostle of the Rosary, Blessed Alan, and it was a favorite practice of the St. Louis Grignon de Montfort.”

Proctor then proceeds to make a list of virtues connected to each mystery. Here are the Joyful mysteries as an example.

Annunciation – Humility

Visitation – Fraternal charity, i.e. works of mercy

Nativity – Spirit of poverty, i.e. as opposed to avarice

Presentation – Obedience

Jesus in the Temple – Love of God and of His holy service

It can be extremely beneficial for us to reflect more deeply upon each mystery of the Rosary and consider what type of virtue this biblical episode is teaching us. As a result, our spiritual health will be renewed and we will have more interior knowledge of ourselves, looking for ways we can improve our practice of virtue.

While the Rosary may seem outdated, in truth it is a timeless and beautiful prayer, one that can be adapted to our circumstances and used for the benefit of our spiritual well-being.

FAITH FORMATION

PRAYER Intentions

Your prayers are requested for the deceased of our community especially Bridget Ryan, Frances Moore and all of our parish benefactors, our sick, our military, especially our parishioners who are currently deployed to an active combat area and all those who have asked us to pray for them this week. Their names have been inscribed in our parish Book of Intentions in the Chapel. Please contact the rectory to add a name.

Reflection of the Week

It is not what you say out of your mouth

that determines your life.

It is what you whisper to yourself that has the most power.

Turning Our Back on God

Hezekiah was a god-fearing king who brought about reformation among the Israelites. His son Manasseh, however, was an evil ruler. He had watched his father walk with God and live according to Scripture. Yet he chose to ignore the Lord. Manasseh worshipped false gods, even to the point of sacrificing his sons by fire in order to praise Molech. He practiced much evil—including witchcraft and sorcery— and led Israel astray, thereby provoking God to anger. The king, along with the people, paid a high price for his rebellion.

This story illustrates the Lord’s intolerance of a nation’s disregard toward Him. Now consider our country. We, too, are a nation that pushes God aside—one that has turned away from the only true God and embraced idols. Perhaps these aren’t statues of stone, but we worship money, sports ability, fame, and reputation, to name a few.

The United States of America was founded on biblical principles with the intent to guarantee freedom of worship. But over time, we have removed the Lord from many aspects of public life. Prayer in schools, for instance, was deemed unconstitutional. What was once a “nation under God” has turned into a country that tolerates a growing number of sins and yet belittles absolute truth.

If a nation turns its back on the Lord, His judgment is inevitable unless the people repent and make Him Lord once again. As believers, our responsibility is to pray that God would draw the heart of our country back to Himself—and to help the gospel and truth spread through our land.

Could you benefit from Franciscan Spiritual Direction?

Franciscan Spiritual Direction invites all disciples to navigate a uniquely sacred path, guided by the Holy Spirit. We discern “what am I feeling; what am I learning; where is God? Am I growing; will He transform me to His purpose?” The invitation seeks to share the challenges, as well as the joys, of living. There is much to learn from an innocent man who died on a cross, yet never stops loving us. What is happening in your heart and mind? What do you want God to hear, and what is He asking of you? Kate Chandler has a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and is certified in Franciscan Spiritual Direction. During this time, Kate is available remotely to listen and offer insight into various ways to pray for restoration of joy and peace in our everyday lives.

Kate can be reached at [email protected] or please call 781-439-4977.

ADORATION

Parishioners commit to one half hour a week to adore the Lord in His Eucharistic Presence, to pray the rosary, to pray for the needs of the parish, and to spend time

in their own personal prayer. Our Lord asked, “Could you not stay with me for even an hour?” Is He speaking to you?” We are especially in need of coverage on Tuesdays 7:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Thursdays 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. & Fridays 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m, & 8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Please call the rectory to sign up.

Laughter, THE BEST MEDICINE

A Pastor said, “You need to join the army of the Lord!”

My friend replied, “I’m already in the army of the Lord, Pastor.”

Pastor questioned, “How come I don’t see you except at Christmas and Easter?”

He whispered back, “I’m in the secret service.”

There are even sing along songs with our music teacher, Mrs. Burton, and her daughter Angela to lift your spirits. Our whole community is getting inspired by these superstars! Our blog is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to creating well-rounded students! Behind the scenes our gym teacher, Mrs. Condon, has created games to keep the kids physically active, even indoors. Mrs. Connerty is, also, ensuring our students practice their Spanish at home with fun projects, some of which are featured. It is evident that even in this period of unprecedented uncertainty our teachers’ primary focus is on their students.
