Dear Parishioners,
He’s ba-ack! Yes, I’ve returned to the people and to the
parish I love. To be sure, it’s important for a pastor,
well, any priest, actually, to get away sometimes, but it’s also far
more important for him, afterwards, to shoulder his responsibilities
again and to do the job God gave him to do, to the best of his ability.
Yes, vacations are a great help in this area. So, I return refreshed and
am very happy to be back. Yes, for the moment, I’m somewhat
darker than I was when I left, but that will fade quickly, I’m sure.
The southwest Florida weather could have been a bit better, but I
managed to “catch some rays” now and then. It was also very good
to be with my brother-in-law, for whom this was his first summer
vacation without his wife – my sister. We didn’t speak overly much
about her, but we did recount a few pleasant memories from years
past.
I give a big Thank You to Father Bartholomew for taking care of
things in my absence! I feel a bit guilty, since our new Mass
schedule is heavier than it was before and he had quite a burden on
his shoulders. But, he was very much up to the job, and I know that
you and he are taking to one another very well. St. Joseph will be in
good hands when I have to leave again for a short time at the end of
September and for a Christmas jaunt home at the end of December
and the beginning of January.
Though it’s not immediate at the moment, both Father Bartholomew
and I will have to be away from the parish from October 7 through
10. The reason is the bi-annual Priests’ Convocation. This is just
something that all priests in the diocese have to attend. So, on
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, during that time, there will be no
7:30 AM Masses. Masses will resume the evening of October 10.
Rest assured that all Mass intentions will be satisfied either by Father
or me during our time away. Believe me, both Father Bartholomew
and I, had we our “druthers,” would opt to stay put here, but, as the
saying goes, “ya gotta do wutcha ya gotta do.” I’m so glad to be
back with you, my children and my friends. God bless each and
every one of you.

Notre Dame Priory Retreats My name is Br Bede Mary Cannavo and I am writing from Notre
Dame Priory, a recently founded Benedictine community of tradi-
tional observance in Tasmania, Australia. In the interests of keeping
this note short, I will include a link to our 'About Us' page on our
website [https://www.notredamemonastery.org/about]. We were
founded on 22 Feb 2017 by a monk of St Joseph's Abbey, Flavigny,
France. We are directly under the auspices of the Archbishop of Ho-
bart and not a foundation of the previously mentioned monastery.
We will soon be travelling to the USA to conduct retreats based on
the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius, along with a taste of our mo-
nastic life, at Maria Stein retreat centre in Ohio. We were wondering
if you would be willing to advertise these retreats any of your apos-
tolates (particularly those in the region). I have included a little in-
formation about the retreats below. We have run retreats for quite a
number of years in New South Wales (near Sydney) with the assis-
tance of your confrères in the FSSP as confessors, such as Fr Duncan
Wong FSSP, Fr Damon Sypher FSSP and Fr Paul Leung FSSP.
Each day involves Holy Mass in the usus antiquior, a series of con-
ferences to prepare retreatants for the meditations proposed in the
Spiritual Exercises, devotions and certain hours of the monastic Di-
vine Office. There will be plenty of opportunities to see a priest for
spiritual direction and the Sacrament of Penance. The retreats are si-
lent. The dates are as follows:
Men’s 5 day retreat – Sunday 29 September – Friday 4 October 2019
Women’s 5 day retreat – Sunday 6 – Friday 11 October 2019
Venue: Maria Stein Spiritual Center 2365 St. Johns Road, Maria
Stein, Ohio 45860
The cost is USD$450 and bookings can be made

40 Days for Life Campaign Friends in Christ, all St. Joseph parishioners, please join the 40 Days

place September 25- November 3, 2019. St. Joseph parish is sched-
uled to pray on October 17th from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. outside the
Planned Parenthood in Aurora.
There is a global campaign in ending abortion through the 40 days-
worldwide-communities that rally to create a non-stop, 40 day prayer
vigil outside their local abortion facility. The crisis is over 56 million
children are killed in the womb every year-about 150,000 per day.
Nearly 1 out of every 5 children in the U.S. are killed in the womb.
Planned Parenthood in Aurora Illinois is the largest abortion facility
in the Midwest, killing 75-100 pre-born children from our commu-
nity every week.
The solution is if we want to end abortion, the first thing we must do
is pray. People of the faith are also encouraged to fast. Christ said
there are some demons that can only be driven out by prayer and
