Sunday, January 8th KC breakfast after Sunday Masses.

Children of St. John’s present “ The story of Baby Jesus” after 10am mass. Coffee & rolls along with the KC breakfast will be served following in Padre Hall.

The Apostle John was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus

and he was called “the Son of Thunder” by Jesus himself. It

is tradition that John came to Ephesus (in what is now

Turkey) together with Virgin Mary who had been entrusted

to him. John’s Gospel says that “When on the cross, Jesus

saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing

beside her, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, here is your son’

then he said to the disciple, ‘here is your mother’. From that

hour the disciple took her into his own home and never

separated again. (John 19:26-27) After Mary completed her

life journey and was assumed body and soul to heaven, St.

John went around Asia Minor together with St Peter to

spread Christianity.

His enemies tried twice to kill him. A glass of poisonous

drink was given him, but with a miracle, poison came out in

the form of a snake when St John was ready to drink it. He

was also exiled to the harsh island of Patmos where he

received God's Vision recorded in the book of Revelation.

In 95 AD he returned to Ephesus and started writing his

Gospel. St John died in Ephesus and according to his will, he

was buried nearby Ephesus. This icon is in the shrine in

Ephesus.

We welcome through the waters of baptism:

St. John’s Parish Photo Directory: This month of January 2017 we will spend three weeks with 25 families each day getting their photo taken for our photo directory. It will be the major project getting everyone to sign up for their photo session for this new parish pictorial directory. The more participants the nicer the book will be for all to use. St. Peter & Paul Parish will also be included in this directory as we have done in the past. The booklet will be very simple with just family photos and identification lines and will be distributed around the first of May 2017. Please take the 15-20 minutes to get a photo and lets get a 100% participation representing our parish! Contact Diane Smith with questions. 224-1306.
