“I will Fulfill the Promise” I have always experienced Advent as a time of expectation and excitement. Hope stirs in my heart and in the midst of this busy season I find myself full of energy, joy and happiness. Despite
the many details to attend to in this season of preparation, I seem not to mind, and find that things I usually struggle with as tedious and wearisome are easier to accomplish than at other times of the year. The rush of special events, prayers and tasks reminds me daily that we are waiting for something extraordinary to burst upon us.
The prophet Jeremiah calls out to us who can sometimes lose hope and be overwhelmed by the events of the world that God has promised
to raise us up, to celebrate over us and to restore us to joy. We may feel in this cold and dark season of the year that we are out of sight and out of the mind of God, but Jeremiah insists that there is nothing further from the truth. God has made promises and he keeps them. Not only does he keep them but at this very moment those promises are unfolding before us in wondrous beauty and light. In this precarious season God promises us to set us safely in his presence and that we will live securely as a beacon of hope in the world.
Jesus tells us in the Gospel that great tribulations will come, that world events will seem to be out of control, that our lives will seem about to be swallowed up by a darkness that we cannot resist or fathom. He warns us that people will be frightened almost beyond bearing, and will huddle in dark corners awaiting the coming catastrophe. At those very moments he tells us we should rise up in hope. “When these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.” Even the earth-shattering cataclysms that parade across our televisions each evening should not cause us to despair, but should turn our hearts and our minds to the coming of the Lord. God has promised salvation and that promise will not disappoint us. We are a people kindling the light of hope in a dark world. We are a people filled with God’s own courage in a frightened world. We are called to proclaim that God himself is preparing a glorious victory for all who remain alert.
Let us light the lights of our Advent wreaths as a sign of hope in the darkness. Let us huddle together in the cold of this winter night and proclaim the warmth of God’s promises. Let us stand erect, unafraid and hopeful before the powers of the earth that call us to despair. Let us become the beginning of the fulfillment of God’s promise spoken across the ages by Jeremiah and whispered into our hearts in this holy season.
As I said, I have always experienced Advent as a time of expectation and excitement.

: One of the great opportunities we have in our parish is to spend time in the presence of the Lord through Eucharistic Adoration. From 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. each Tuesday, the Eucharist is exposed in the chapel for quiet prayer and adoration. The one requirement is that at least one person accompany the Lord during this time of Eucharistic Exposition. At this time we have volunteer opportunities for 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. There is also need throughout the day for substitutes. Please contact Celia Knoll 320-327-2356.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT MORNING ON SATURDAY: The Holy Family/St. Pius X Youth Group will be sponsoring a Christmas Craft Morning on Saturday at St. Pius X. You should have your registrations in now. Youth Group members and their parents who will be helping should arrive by 8:30 a.m. and participants should arrive at 9:00 a.m. We hope to see you there.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION DAY NEXT SUNDAY: Our parish will observe a day of Eucharistic Adoration next Sunday. Adoration will begin with Exposition at the end of Spanish Mass and conclude with Benediction at 3:50 p.m. just prior to our communal celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. There is a sign-up sheet on the table in the gathering area where you can sign-up for a time in the presence of the Lord. This sign-up guarantees that at least one person is in church during the whole time of Exposition and Adoration.
CHOIR FORMING FOR CHRISTMAS EVE: We are gathering a choir to sing for Christmas Eve Mass at 4:00 p.m. We invite all people from the 7th grade up to join us as we prepare to celebrate the coming of the Lord. The Christmas Eve Choir will practice on Sunday, December 6 and Sunday, December 20 at 8:00 a.m. We have tried to choose times that conflict as little as possible with other activities that we know are going on. For more information please contact Sue Mielke. Together let us raise a joyful song to the Lord.
CHRISTMAS FLOWER AND DECORATION DONATIONS NEEDED: We are now accepting donations for Christmas flowers and decorations in memory of or in honor of your loved ones. If you would like to make a donation please get a form from the kiosk in the gathering area. Complete it and return your donation to the parish office, or put it in an envelope marked “Christmas Flowers” in the Sunday collection. The deadline for donations is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15. Donations received after that time may not be included in the bulletin.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION PLEASE NOTE: Fr. Tony has asked that we reduce the number of Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at Saturday evening Masses from five to three. One person will distribute the Body of Christ along with the presider and the other two will distribute the Blood of Christ. This move reflects the number of people receiving from the cup and the shortage of Saturday evening ministers. This change will be reflected in the schedule.
CHRISTMAS EVE PROCESSION: We will need families and individuals to help us with the procession of the figures for our Nativity Scene at the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the gathering area. Please consider helping us celebrate the coming of the Lord.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Classes will resume this Wednesday, December 2, 2015. The kiddos in Grades 3-11 will have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. May you all experience a deep and spiritually profound Advent!
MINNESOTA NICE CARE PACKAGE FOR SOLDIERS: In addition to our participation in the McLeod County Christmas giving program, we are also offering you an opportunity to remember men and women serving in the armed services on our behalf. The Minnesota Nice program is being organized by Linda Krueger of Glencoe. There is a box in the gathering area for your donations. Please see the program explanation and suggested list of needs on the bulletin board in the gathering area if you wish to participate.

ADVENT: An Opportunity to be Ready to Welcome the Lord: During this Advent we prepare our lives to welcome the Lord when he comes. If you have not had the opportunity to make your pledge or gift yet, you may go online at www.dnu.org and make your pledge or contribution there. The parish will receive full credit for your gift. Be assured that your gift will benefit those ministries that are vital to our church as well as our own parish projects of a commercial refrigerator for the Holy Family kitchen, a new stove for the Holy Trinity School kitchen and the repair of the retaining wall at St. Pius X. Thanks for showing mercy to those in need.

EVANGELIZATION CORNER WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT-The New Evangelization: Last weekend at Mass we prayed a Prayer for Evangelization that stated: Heavenly Father, stir in my soul the desire to renew my faith and deepen my relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, so that I might truly believe in and live the Good News. Did you internalize that? I was asked not too long ago, “Where does this “stuff about evangelization” come from?” It’s actually what the Church has always taught. If you were to read Pope Francis’ encyclical, "The Joy of the Gospel" you would find another great answer. He writes it is the very heart of our Christian life: to live the Gospel always, everywhere, and radically, where grace and love is the normal, daily existence for every Christian and Catholic! Pope Francis warns us that worldly forces will crush followers of lukewarm, highly interiorized, and personalized Christian spiritualities that seek only their own ends towards salvation. These spiritualities include the expectation that Mass must entertain; that the Church is a means to personal, worldly gain (also known as the gospel of health and wealth); or that the Gospel must make no demands on one’s life. Advent is a great time to look inside yourself and see if you are going to answer that call to broaden your impact in the parish and community by exercising your mind and heart to truly live the Gospel. Consider registering for our Discovering Christ Series starting January 10 at 5:00 p.m. at Holy Family, Silver Lake. You can register by email: [email protected] or online at www.winstedholytrinity.org/parish/christlife.
